Chapter 82 Chapter 82: Not Caring Enough
ARIANNA’S POV
I stepped out of my car, my eyes roving over the entrance into the store. “Good morning ma, how can we help?” The storekeeper asked, her eyes taking in my outfit with a look of disapproval.
I ignored her look, my gaze meeting hers with determination despite her tone. “I am here to look for a stylish yet decent gown for a gala” I was going to kill two birds with a stone.
“I am sorry, we might not have something within your budget” She let out, a smirk ticking her lips upward. I let out a scoff, her audacity stunning me.
I never knew someone could be so proud. “What are you trying to imply? That I can’t afford the dresses you have here?” I questioned; glad I had a small camera that recorded everything that was going on.
“That isn’t the only thing you might have a problem with” She sneered out, her eyes dipping down to my body.
I stood taller, staring at the middle of her head that was starting to go bald. “You know you talk so much for someone who is the storekeeper” I said to her, my voice low.
She jerked back at the look in my eyes, her legs faltering for a bit. “A-Are you trying to threaten me?” She stuttered out, her voice trembling.
“Were you trying to belittle me?” I asked, replying to her question. People were eager to dish out insults or abuse but weren’t eager to take the same thing.
“What exactly do you want to get?” She asked, her face going blank. “Exactly what I told you the first time” I replied, watching as her eyes flashed briefly with anger.
She pursed her lips, spinning around to probably bring out the available dresses they had in the store. I took my time, searching through each corner of the space for a camera.
Since they decided to go low with Deluxe, I as their attorney could only go lower. I searched through the drawers behind the counter.
The pin on my chest automatically saved each video it covered. I didn’t need to take a picture of any evidence I came across.
My hands froze through my searching as I came across a contract. It was the one Selene had signed with FDG the year of her debut.
I brought it close to my chest when I heard the rolling of cloth rack echoing, I shoved the files back into the drawer.
I sprung away from the counter, sitting on the couch in the reception area meant for customers. “Here they are” She let out, her tone bored.
I cleared my throat, my hands trembling slightly as my gaze rested on the dresses on the rack. They looked good, but I already found what I was here for anyway.
“I would have to leave now, you wasted my time” I declared, a frown on my face as I walked out of the store.
I heaved out a sigh of relief, my hands trembling slightly around the wheel. I gently pried the pin away from the lapel of my suit jacket.
By the time I got back to the firm, it was almost lunch break. I had branched by a café, a craving for cake had gripped me as I felt the store.
I had ordered a slice of cake to go with a king-sized caramel coffee. Armed with my goodies, I stepped out of my car.
“I heard you visited one of my branches” A feminine voice let out coolly. I turned, coming face to face with Mandi Helmsworth, the top member of FDG.
I was surprised she came to the firm to meet me in person. “That, I did” I replied, staring right into her eyes.
“I hope you saw what you went searching for?” She asked, a serene smile on her face. “I realized my tastes are different from what your company offers” I replied coolly, a smirk threatening to bloom on my lips at the slight twitch of her left eye.
“Just remember all you see isn’t always all it seems to be” confusion bloomed within me, but I hid it. I wasn’t going to give her the satisfaction of knowing she had me rattled.
“I would keep that in mind, Miss Helmsworth” I called out as she walked into her car. Her words sounded cryptic, almost as if she knew something I didn’t.
I pushed her words aside as my stomach rumbled with hunger. I stepped into the elevator, the aroma of the cake filling my nostrils.
I pushed the door to my office, ready to devour the cake with me. “Took you long enough” A voice I thought I would never hear again said to me.
“What are you doing here?” I asked, hating the way my voice trembled slightly. A cruel smile played on her lips as she spun around in my chair.
I set the things I had with me down on one of the chairs before my table. “The real question is what are you doing with the Alpha King?” She cooed out.
“Get out” I stated. “You have sure grown wings, Aria” Her smile dropped, eyes blazing with anger.
“I don’t want to repeat myself, Lyra. See yourself out of my office” I snapped at her, my hands balling into fists.
She stood up then, her petite figure strutting towards me. “You don’t get to order me around like that, I am the Luna of Moonlight pack” She let out, her smirk doing nothing to me.
“I don’t care” I told her. True enough, it didn’t matter she was Kieran’s Luna. For all I care, they could display their ‘love’ for all to see.
“You would be. I am sure you got the package I sent to you the other day” Her smile got brighter at the confused look on my face.
Her red painted fingers dropped some pictures onto the table before me, her smile portraying satisfaction.
