Chapter Ninety-Two: Home Truths
A splitting headache is all I felt as I lay in darkness, my body felt stiff in that moment as the headache only intensified when my ears began to ring with such intensity, I felt sick. Shaking my head a little, I snap my eyes only in a little daze.
After allowing the ringing in my eyes to subside and the pounding of my head soften, I begin to slowly come to with the world once again and discover where I had been dumped. As I took a look around, I discover I’m laying on an old wooden floor cabin of some description. It was a simple layout, the kitchen and little living room area in one, it resembled the cabin Griffin had been staying in, but much better quality.
I place my hands on the flooring in order to aid me to sit up where I hear what sounded to be metal sliding along the floor, I take a look down where I discover the reason for the noise, both of my hands were chained together with a thick solid chain. Panic sets in as I attempt to pull the chains off, even bringing my leg up in hopes of kicking them away, but this only resulting in my writs getting sore. But through my mini battle with the chains, what sounded like heavy footsteps on the old wooden floor soon engulf the once quiet cabin.
With a worried look, I slowly lift my head up to look ahead of me where I saw the owner of the feet, Jared. He stood not that far away from me with his hands in his pockets, his eyes watching my every move.
“There’s no use trying to fight your way out, there heavy-duty chains, you’ll need much more strength than you process.” He tells me in a point of fact kind of tone, but now he had broken the silence with his voice, I couldn’t help the even more freight which pulsed through my body.
I begin to crawl backwards where my chains only followed, but I couldn’t get very far, my back soon hitting the wooden wall of the cabin meaning I was trapped in this structure with the monster behind it all. My heart pounded in my chest as I looked at the man who had taken the one person, I needed more than anyone away from me.
“You don’t have to look scared, I ain’t gonna hurt you.” He tells me in a bored tone taking a seat on one of the chairs of his dining table, as though keeping someone captive was the most normal thing a person could do.
“How do I know that?! You killed my mother!” I shout so loudly once I had found the courage inside of me to speak, my hands still shaking from fear but Jared, remained as calm and collected as before simply shaking his head at me.
“I didn’t want to kill your mother believe me, but I didn’t have any other choice.” He says with a sigh where in this moment, I wanted to pick up these heavy-duty chains and beat him upside the head with it!
“I know you did! I read the letter that you sent Griffin weeks after you did it! You even wrote there yourself that you were angry that Griffin wasn’t paying attention to you, so you decided to kick him where it hurts! My mother!” I shout wanting him to see that I wasn’t going to fall for his bullshit, I knew so much more about him that he’d probably have a heart attack!
“Did you not read the name, which was on the envelope, that letter was intended for Griffin.” He replied as though he hadn’t quite heard what I had said before, but he sits back in his chair still watching me. “The only reason I had sent that letter in the first place was so that I could come and see you, I knew where Griffin lived and watched as he left your house and went into his. If I wanted Griffin to see this letter and not you, wouldn’t it have been easier to give it to him and not you?” He asks with a raised eyebrow where in that moment, I couldn’t help but feel the anger but also freight make its way through me.
“You wanted to see me after you killed my mother?! What to see what shit you put me through me?!” I ask feeling as though I was sat chained in a place with a complete maniac, why would somebody want to put another through that?!
“Not at all, I went to your house that morning because I cared, I was good friends with your mother since we were teens. I even knew your father and saw you when you were just a tiny little baby. Killing your mother was the last thing I wanted to do Rose, but I didn’t have any other choice. You won’t believe the amount of pain doing that to her gave me.” He said as though I should somehow feel bad for him, but he was the one who killed her!
“It hurt you! You killed my fucking mother! You won’t believe the amount of pain me and my father had to feel because you took her away from us! You know, I’m glad you feel bad, I hope every second of your worthless life you sit there in nothing but guilt for what you did to her!” I scream angrier than I think I ever have before in my life, all of these kept up emotions that have been forced away for years was finally, coming to the service. But Jared just nods his head at me.
“I can assure you that is the case; it is a feeling I’ve had to live with since and will continue to for the rest of my life and for that, I’m sorry Rose. I know what it feels like to lose someone close to you and I’m sorry, I’m the reason you feel that.” He tells me with a little sigh looking down, where I couldn’t help but sit back a little from shock, his apology did take me off guard but also, the anger I felt slip away a little bit.
“I know Jared, your mate died at The Shadow Wolf Pack.” I say sitting back letting him know that I had done my homework, where he once again only nods with a look of sorrow on his face.
“That’s right, it was as though my entire world as I knew it came crumbing down, Remi was the one person who got me, so many others in my life wouldn’t take the time to find the true me but she did, she stood by me and loved me for me. I loved her so dearly that when she went, it was as though someone ripped my heart out of my chest.” He begins to explain his eyes still down onto the ground whilst his tears begin to well up in his eyes, where even though I hated him for what he did to my mother, I couldn’t help but feel bad. “I thought this would be something you would understand Rose, I did the same thing to you, I know what kind of things you must be wanting to do to me and believe me, I understand because I want to do the same things to those who took my Remi away from me.” He explained now looking up at me with tears rolling down his cheeks, where I simply shake my head at him a little.
“You have no idea what’s going around my mind when I think of you Jared.” I say with a straight face, before I lift my head up slightly thinking. “And what you’re planning would be all well and good, if you weren’t sat there blaming the wrong people.” I say looking him right in the eyes, it was my turn to tell him some home truths.
“Blaming the wrong people? I was under the impression that you were looking into this case, wouldn’t you know what happened?” He asks a little shocked thinking I had somehow gotten the wrong information, but I knew everything.
“I have been looking into this case and know what you think happened that day.” I say where I could see him sat there a little shocked before a hint of anger took over his expression, I was telling him things I don’t think he wanted to hear.
“What I think happened?! I think that chloroform is getting to your head, I was there that day and saw what that man did to my mate!” He tells me point blank, but my reaction shocked him, I just laugh a little taking a look down to the floor.
“I’m not disputing what happened at The Shadow Wolf Pack, it was there that you mate reached her awful ending. But that was not the main catalyst which led to Remi’s death.” I say hoping that he’d see where I was going with this, my comment does make him sigh once again a look down at the table.
“My mate became ill and there was nothing I could do to help her, that selfish prick had the medicine to make her better, but he refused to give it her.” He mumbled but his voice littered with anger as he thought of the Alpha, but I was about to tell him the truth which had been hidden for so many years.
“Do you ever ask yourself why she was so sick?” I ask titling my head to the side as I spoke, where Jared looks over with an even more confused expression.
“We took her to many specialists, but no one knew.” He sighs sitting back in his chair, but I just smile sitting up straight thinking I knew more.
“I know.” Is all I say which did make him turn to look at me with a face full of shock. “And I also know the Alpha didn’t have anything that was going to help your mate considering, she was being poisoned.” I say looking him dead in the eye, where even more shock and horror fill his eyes, but I wasn’t finished.
“By Julia.”
