Chapter 96 Reject me
>>Nico
I woke up in the same dirt-filled place where I had lost my consciousness.
Huh?
I raised my face up from the mud, my mind a mess and dizzy. It felt like the world moved around me when I sat up and that's when I realized I was out because I don't remember going blank but considering how much I was enduring, that was sort of the last-case scenario.
I gulped, trying to lubricate my throat but my mouth felt so dry it was like I hadn't had a sip of water in days.
My head hurt and I shook it to clear up my vision as well
"Oh God..." As soon as I came to, I started shivering. I looked at the veil of vines as I listened to the pattering of rain.
It still hasn't stopped?
How long was I out?
I shook my head and looked down at myself. Looks like the heat has stopped.
I gulped again, then licked my lips and stood up.
But why would it stop out of the blue? That's not how heat works...
I had a bad feeling about it and my wolf was quiet too.
I tried reaching out to her but she didn't respond.
Hmmm...
But well, it has stopped, so I should avail this time and talk to Asher. I need to get out of this place anyway.
I walked to the vines, pushing them aside, I went out into the rain. The storm had calmed down a lot, it wasn't raining as heavily as before so it was easier to walk through it.
I wonder if he went back to the cave, or if he's still out looking for me?
The second option made my heart ache.
I hope he went back...
The sky was even darker now, which meant the sun was going down soon. I let out a sigh and began to walk towards the cave.
I let out a sigh as I realized what had happened.
Staying close to my destined partner was changing my body. My wolf was excited all the time and she wanted to be near Asher, but I couldn't afford that.
I wanted to reject that and my wolf retaliated and went into heat. She probably wanted me to give in since a heat can't be resisted. It's too painful, that's why I passed out.
As I walked back towards the cave, my heart felt so heavy I felt like I was drowning. I could say I had no idea why I was feeling so bad but I'm pretty sure it's because I'm going to Asher to tell him to reject me.
My stomach churned and I found myself hurting. It was like my heart rate was slowing down but my wolf still refused to respond to me.
I took a deep breath when the cave came into view. I saw Asher sitting in the front, his head lowered in defeat while he looked tired.
"Asher," His ears perked up and he shot his head towards me when I whispered his name.
"Nico?" He came running to me, "Nico!" He came and almost took my hands in his, "Where were-" But I cut his words as I stepped away from him, not allowing him to touch me.
"Reject me." I didn't even give him the time to say anything properly.
He froze, his eyes grew wide and a confused expression took over his face, "What?"
"Reject me," I said again as I looked at him with fake confidence, "Because I reject you." My wolf howled in pain, finally coming alive as I said the words out aloud. She screamed at me, gnawing at my mind. The rejection was already painful enough, she made it worse by torturing my mind
A frown appeared on his face, "What did you say?" He seemed to be getting mad, "You reject me?" There was a mix of disbelief and horror on his face.
"Yes," I replied, "I reject you." My heart hurt so much that the tears almost burst out of my eyes.
His face contorted in anger, but then he said something I didn't expect, "I refuse your rejection."
"Asher!" I glared at him, "Reject me!!" Unfortunately, in our world, the rejection doesn't go through unless the more powerful wolf does it. It means if Asher doesn't reject me, my words of rejection would mean nothing.
"No!" He yelled back so loudly it made me flinch, "I will not!!!" He screamed back at me.
He didn't understand. He could never understand how terrifying this all was for me. My body was changing and the change was painful. The heat, the fever, the desire, all of it was so new and terrifying, but it wasn't all.
My family would reject me if I didn't reject him.
"Asher," Tears welled up in my eyes, "Reject me," I couldn't raise my voice anymore. I was just simply afraid, "Please..." I was at my limit, "Please just do it," I should have done this from the start, "Please," I found my vision starting to get blurry as I held the tears in.
"No," He gave me his answer, "Not happening."
And the stream made its way down my cheeks, "Please," I choked on my words as my body shivered.
He watched me, then stepped closer to me, pulling me into a hug.
"It's okay," His embrace was warm, "Calm down." The way he wrapped himself around me brought me comfort, "It's alright," And the way he rubbed circles on my back actually managed to calm me down but most of all, what made me feel better was his scent.
The scent of fresh apricots.
He kept me next to his chest for a few minutes, letting me inhale his pheromones, then asked, "Why do you want to reject me?"
...
"We can't be together," I answered softly,
"Why not?" He asked, "Because of your family?"
!!!!
I paused,
Right, he somehow seems to have an idea about my family. He asked me before too.
This time, I chose to answer, "Yes,"
"Why?" He asked, "Because we're both men?"
"..." I couldn't bring myself to say it. How am I supposed to tell him I'm not a man but an omega?
"Tell me," He stroked my head gently, "What is it?" The scent of apricots was very soothing. I wanted to keep inhaling it. In Fact, it was enough to calm my wolf down too.
"You won't like it," I answered.
"Why?" He asked, "And how would you know I won't like it? You can't decide that for me."
"Because my family hates me for that too." I wrapped my arms around him and snuggled my face against his chest subconsciously.
I didn't realize what I was doing and the fact that I didn't realize it alone was a red flag that I should have paid attention to. Why wouldn't I recognize something I was doing myself?
Because my mind was bogging up again.
"I'm gonna bet it's something stupid," He replied, "Tell me what is it?"
"You'll be disgusted,"
He let out a chuckle, "I doubt it." His voice got softer again and I noticed that the anger was gone from his tone, "Unless you killed someone from my family, that's a different issue."
His words made me smile, "What if I did?"
"I'll let it slide," His hand on my head felt really nice, "As long as it's Killian,"
I chuckle at his words, "He's still alive though,"
"Ah shucks," He pulled me even closer, "I wanted to steal some of his stuff after he died." I blinked softly. My heart wasn't hurting anymore and my chest didn't feel heavy.
And it took for the pain to go away was being near Asher.
This is what it meant to be with a fated pair.
"Asher," I frowned and grabbed the back of his shirt tightly.
"Hmm?"
"I-"
A deafening hiss split the air, neither Asher nor I noticed it till the point it was upon us, and before I could react, a massive anaconda lunged at us.
!!??? Time seemed to slow as its powerful jaws snapped shut with terrifying speed. Panic surged within me, and I instinctively reached for my mate attempting to push him aside but Asher seemed to have the same idea and we ended up pushing each other away.
Lightning flashed in the sky as the snake went between us.
"Nico!!!" Asher was the first one up and came running to me but the anaconda was relentless as well. It was mad like we had destroyed its home or something.
"Asher!" He came over while I was still on the ground and started to pick me up when the snake attacked again.
OH NO!
The serpent's coils winded around us, a suffocating grip that left us with no escape. My heart raced as the reality of the situation bore down on me, the cold realization that we were facing a fight for our lives.
Adrenaline surged through my veins as I struggled against the relentless force of the snake's grip. Desperation fueled my movements as I fought to pry its coils away from us,
"Shit!!!" My voice was a mixture of terror and determination.
"Oh! Hell!!" Beside me, my mate grappled with the same desperation, his strength joining mine in a desperate bid for survival, "I should have been more attentive!" He had a deep frown on his face.
The serpent's power was overwhelming. Its muscular body constricted around us, crushing our bodies and stealing our breath. The world seemed to close in, the struggle becoming a desperate battle against the encroaching darkness. With every passing moment, the grip tightened, and the air grew thin.
