Chapter 407 Old Acquaintances Meet
Chapter 407 Old Acquaintances Meet
Patricia suddenly found herself missing Orville a little.
Despite his many flaws, when it came to taking care of her, he had been extraordinarily attentive in ways most men couldn't match.
But her expression soon turned distant again.
After regaining her memory, she always felt that the person she was during her amnesia and who she is not the same person.
Therefore, she couldn't quite accept that she suddenly had a husband and children.
Yet sometimes, in a moment of distraction, she would recall those peaceful days on the island.
She really did need some quiet time to think about how to move forward.
On the way, Jeremy explained to Patricia that he had arranged accommodation for her.
It was in the residential area across from where Amelia lived.
A large flat.
He had also arranged a driver and a housekeeper for her.
"Patricia, please settle in without worry. The two neighborhoods are very close, you can come visit Mrs. Crawford anytime."
Patricia nodded, "Thank you, I'm really putting you through so much trouble."
Amelia said, "Your business is my business, what trouble? Just let them keep busy - they'd be bored with nothing to do anyway."
Jeremy laughed, "Exactly, I can't stand being idle."
York chimed in, "You're the one who can't stand being idle, not me. But serving a beautiful lady, I'm more than happy to help."
Patricia smiled.
The atmosphere in the car was relaxed.
The car soon arrived at Celestial Haven Hotel.
The entrance was already packed with people.
Besides guests, there were many reporters.
These people weren't here for Faith, of course. Although the Monroe family's culinary skills and restaurant chain were well-known, they wouldn't warrant such a big fuss from reporters.
They were here for Samuel and Amelia.
They had previously held their wedding in the country where the Bloody Syndicate incident occurred.
And they hadn't made any official public appearances since returning home.
Everyone wanted to get photos of them.
Amelia specifically asked Jeremy to wait and bring Patricia in after she had entered.
Although no one knew that Patricia was Orville's wife, the internet wasn't completely secure, there were always people capable of digging up such information.
So it was always better to be cautious.
And sure enough, after Amelia and Samuel entered, the reporters gradually dispersed.
But Jeremy, being cautious, still had Patricia wait a bit longer.
Just then, Patricia received a text message.
It was from Orville.
"The kids and I are waiting for you to come home."
Attached was a photo of him with the children.
Patricia's hand trembled. She steeled herself and didn't open the photo, pretending she hadn't seen the message.
Meanwhile, Amelia arrived at the wedding venue with Samuel's "support."
Quite a few guests had already arrived.
Dozens of tables were filled with people.
But each seat had a name card, so even latecomers wouldn't have to worry about finding a seat.
Faith had reserved the front-most table for them.
Before long, people came up to greet Samuel.
Samuel found it tiresome, but out of respect for the Monroe family, he responded to each one.
"I'll go chat with them over there, so they don't crowd you."
Samuel whispered in Amelia's ear.
Amelia nodded.
She was feeling drowsy again, but with guests around, she could only force herself to stay alert.
Now that Samuel had taken people away, she finally had a moment to breathe and planned to rest her head on the table for a quick nap.
Just then, a figure approached.
A long shadow fell over her.
Amelia lifted her eyelids slightly and saw Finn, whom she hadn't seen in a long time.
He seemed thinner, with a pointed chin and light stubble on his lips, but he appeared to have a more mature demeanor than before.
After nearly a year working in another city, he had indeed become more composed.
Even his greeting carried a sense of restraint.
"Mrs. Crawford."
This form of address made Amelia pause slightly, and even Finn himself seemed startled by his own words.
But Amelia quickly regained her composure.
"Long time no see, Finn."
"Yes, long time no see. How have you been?" As he spoke, his gaze briefly flickered to Amelia's belly.
Amelia spoke openly, "Pretty good. I had some morning sickness a while ago, but I've recovered now. I rest at home every day - it's quite peaceful."
She then asked, "When did you get back?"
"This morning's flight." He said, "I received Byron's invitation and thought I should come after all. I hope I'm not intruding?"
Byron had mentioned inviting Finn to her and asked for her opinion.
They had both thought Finn wouldn't come.
They just didn't expect him to actually show up.
Amelia's expression remained natural.
"How could you be intruding? We're old friends, after all."
Finn relaxed a little.
He knew in his heart that Amelia was someone who spoke tactfully and wouldn't say "I don't want to see you" to his face.
But hearing her say he wasn't intruding still put him somewhat at ease.
"When are you due?" Finn asked.
"The due date is next April."
"Let me know when you give birth. I've already prepared gifts for the two children." After saying this, feeling it was inappropriate, he added, "Byron told me you're having boy-girl twins."
He was explaining himself - that he hadn't been secretly keeping tabs on her - to avoid making her uncomfortable.
Amelia smiled, "That's right. Thank you in advance for the gifts."
"It's only right. You...?" He moved his lips, wanting to ask about the Bloody Syndicate incident.
But he had no standing to ask, and hesitated for a moment.
Just then, Patricia came over.
Seeing Finn, she was very surprised.
"Finn?"
Finn turned his head a beat late.
When he saw Patricia, who had "come back from the dead," he was completely stunned, even doubting whether he was hallucinating.
Amelia spoke up to explain, "Patricia was rescued at the time, but later suffered a head injury and lost her memory. She just regained her memory these past few days and came back to find us."
She deliberately omitted anything about Orville.
"That's wonderful news. Patricia, I always thought you had passed away."
Finn was deeply shocked.
Back then, he hadn't dared to confess his feelings, thinking he wasn't good enough for Amelia.
It was only after Patricia's encouragement that he had mustered the courage to speak up.
Seeing Patricia again now, along with his complex emotions, he was mostly happy that Patricia was alive.
"I haven't seen you in so long. How have you been all these years?" He added, "My table is over there. Shall we go sit and chat?"
Patricia was afraid that if Finn and Amelia talked together for too long, it would upset Samuel.
After all, she knew the whole story of their relationship.
She was very clear about how much Amelia meant to Finn.
She could also see that even now, Finn still hadn't let go of Amelia.
Finn understood her meaning and nodded, going with her.
Amelia breathed a small sigh of relief.
She was also worried that Samuel would be unhappy if he saw them.
After all, Samuel was the jealous type.
Before long, Samuel returned.
"Someone was just talking to you." His words seemed pointed.
Amelia said, "What? You're about to be a father and you're still jealous?"
Samuel shrugged and asked, "He knows Patricia too?"
