Chapter 406 The Truth Behind the Amnesia

Chapter 406 The Truth Behind the Amnesia

Amelia said, "Patricia is your wife, but she's also our friend. Taking care of her is the right thing to do. As for what happened before, it was a fair deal to begin with. You don't owe us anything. In fact, we're the ones who should apologize to you."

She always had this feeling that she had taken Patricia away from Orville.

Then she heard Orville say, "Whether it was a deal or not, Ms. Richardson, the fact that you're willing to tell me where Patricia is today makes you a true friend."

Amelia felt even worse.

Anyone could hear how much Orville cared about Patricia.

"I'll take good care of her."

After promising several times, Amelia hung up.

Back in the study, Faith and Byron had already left to shoot on location, leaving only Louis and Samuel.

Louis was asking Patricia about her future plans.

Patricia lowered her head, her eyes full of confusion.

"I don't know."

Amelia pushed the door open.

"If you don't know, then don't think about it for now. Just focus on enjoying Faith and Byron's wedding today."

Patricia looked up and smiled.

"Okay!"

She really didn't have the energy to think about Orville right now.

That time on the island was, for her, a dream that wasn't entirely bad.

"You two talk. We'll go see if there's anything we can help with."

"Okay."

Soon only Amelia and Patricia remained in the study.

Amelia asked about the details of how Patricia ended up with Orville after the fire that day.

Patricia told her everything.

"That day, not only was there a fire at the base, but armed people came in. I got shot in the lower leg and had nowhere to run. I didn't want to fall into their hands, so I gritted my teeth and jumped into the sea."

"Later I was rescued, and I thought they were good people, but it turned out they were criminals dealing in organ trafficking. They transported me along with others they had tricked to some island."

"I had just escaped from them with great difficulty when I was caught by another group."

"They didn't sell organs, they sold people - all girls."

"That's when Orville saw me. He bought me and took me to an island."

When mentioning Orville, Patricia's eyes flickered, then she lowered her head again.

Amelia held her hand and asked, "What do you really think about Orville now?"

Earlier with so many people around, and with Samuel there whom Patricia wasn't familiar with, she probably wasn't comfortable answering, so she hadn't asked.

Now with no one else around, just the two of them,

"He saved my life. No matter what, he's my savior."

Amelia shook her head. "Patricia, you know that's not what I'm asking."

Patricia fell silent again.

It wasn't that she didn't want to answer Amelia - they never kept secrets from each other.

It was just that she didn't know the answer herself.

So Amelia told her about her phone conversation with Orville.

"You can tell he really cares about you."

Patricia's eyes became slightly red.

Amelia squeezed her hand harder and said, "Whatever you think, Patricia, I respect all your decisions."

Patricia smiled.

"I know, you've always been on my side. It's just that I really don't know the answer right now."

"Then when you figure out the answer, tell me. Or if you have any questions, I'm here anytime to help. I've been through it now too."

She unconsciously touched her still-flat belly.

Patricia's expression softened too.

"How many months?"

"Just over four months."

Patricia thought of her own son.

Her eyes flickered again, but quickly returned to calm.

A moment later, Patricia asked, "After the fire, what about the other companions?"

Amelia's expression froze, and she gently shook her head.

"No one at the base survived. The number of burned bodies matched up, and one body had a similar build to yours, so we thought you had died too."

"It must have been one of those people who came to eliminate me. I killed one of them, also a woman. Her build was indeed similar to mine."

"That must have been her. If we had known you were alive, we would have come looking for you much sooner."

"Let's not talk about that anymore. What kind of person is Samuel? Have you finally moved on from the past?"

Amelia nodded.

She told Patricia about Finn.

Hearing that the real truth back then wasn't that Finn had emotionally betrayed her, Patricia looked suddenly enlightened.

"I knew it - your judgment couldn't have been that bad. So that's how it was. Just a shame."

"Maybe fate arranged it this way from the start - he and I were never meant to be together."

Talking about Finn now, she felt very calm inside.

It was like talking about a friend she knew long ago.

Seeing this, Patricia knew that Amelia had truly let go.

Before, she had really thought Finn and Amelia were a good match.

But now there was clearly no need to bring up the past.

Besides, Amelia was now pregnant with Samuel's child - why bring up old matters and make everyone uncomfortable?

Neither of them noticed a figure flash past outside the study and quickly disappear.

Soon it was time to leave for the hotel.

Patricia rode in Amelia's business car.

Samuel went to the hotel first.

Celestial Haven Hotel was owned by the Crawford Group, and with him there in person, the hotel staff wouldn't dare slack off.

York was driving, with Jeremy accompanying them, and two more business cars followed behind, filled with bodyguards ready to ensure Amelia's safety at any moment.

Of course, the people in those two cars were arranged by Stanley.

He treasured the two children in Amelia's belly.

He used to not care about descendants at all.

But at this retirement age, he didn't want to be distant from his descendants.

When you're old, you need some liveliness so the rest of your life won't be too lonely.

And he had completely given up on the idea of traveling.

After so many years in business, which country hadn't he visited?

Back then he was just too bored.

Now that he had something to care about, he didn't want to leave at all.

People are like that - each stage has its own thoughts;

Each age has its own concerns.

Seeing this tight security, Patricia smiled and said, "Mr. Crawford really treats you well."

She had already learned from Louis who Samuel was and what kind of person he was.

Learning that he was the chairman of the Crawford Group, she was a bit worried that Amelia might be mistreated.

But now seeing how seriously the Crawford family treated Amelia, she felt somewhat relieved.

"He really is a very thoughtful person. He thinks of everything before I do. During pregnancy, he takes care of me so thoroughly that I even find him too clingy now."

Amelia smiled, her eyes full of happiness.

Patricia nodded, but inexplicably thought of Orville.

Orville treated her the same way.

And not just during pregnancy - he had been accommodating to her from the very beginning.
