Chapter 389 Discord
Chapter 389 Discord
"Next month," Samuel said. "We both need to rest and recover. We might as well have our honeymoon while we're at it."
Stanley immediately felt anger rising within him.
"What time do you think this is?! Is a honeymoon really the priority right now?You were inches away from death! I don't care who suggested this, but you are coming home immediately. If you're so desperate for a honeymoon, Phoenicia is more than big enough for one."
As Stanley spoke, his gaze finally snapped toward Amelia. It was a deliberate, pointed look—the first time he had even acknowledged her presence since walking into the room.
Deepdown, he held some resentment toward her.
He realized that until Samuel’s return, pointing fingers would be pointless; it simply wasn't the time for blame. But now that Samuel was back, those resentful feelings surfaced again.
He happened upon the knowledge that Lucian had once read for Amelia, warning her of a looming danger on her wedding day.
Amelia turned out fine, but Samuel nearly died.
Clearly, Samuel had become Amelia's shield.
Stanley hadn't expected that when he looked up, he would see Amelia with a buzz cut.
If not for her face being exactly the same , Stanley would hardly have recognized her.
Seeing Stanley's shocked expression, Samuel explained.
"To rescue me, Amelia cut her hair and went undercover as one of the Bloody Syndicate. She infiltrated the island entirely on her own."
"She was the one who found me first, and she used a satellite phone to explain the situation to Felix and the rest."
"It was her careful planning that made it possible for me to return safely."
Stanley fell silent.
Beyond shock.
Still shock.
He knew Amelia went to the island to help with the rescue, but he didn't know these details.
He especially didn't know that Amelia had gone to the island alone in disguise.
This was extremely risky.
If her identity had been discovered, there would only be one outcome—death.
In that moment, all the reproachful words Stanley had been about to say were forcibly swallowed back.
If Amelia could do all this, what more could he say?
Moreover, all that talk about misfortune and Lucian—those were things science couldn't explain. Who knew if they were real or fake?
What if it was just a coincidence, and Samuel was destined to face this danger, rather than shielding Amelia from it?
Stanley couldn't say anything more.
It was Amelia who spoke up. "It's nothing, Dad. You don't need to worry about me. We're all back safe now. Let's not bring up the past anymore."
She was easing the tension.
Any observant person could tell that Stanley's initial expression and tone clearly blamed Amelia.
Stanley cleared his throat and went along with what Amelia said.
His tone also softened considerably.
"Either way, it's not safe here. Better to go back sooner."
Samuel then explained, "Dad, we're not just playing around. The Bloody Syndicate incident has attracted international attention now, and we're close to their island. If rumors start spreading, that wouldn't be good."
Killing the Bloody Syndicate members was certainly getting rid of evil.
But blood was still on their hands.
If someone with ulterior motives used this to make trouble, when they returned to Phoenicia, they might even face trial.
"So we figured, we might as well use the honeymoon excuse to stay here a while longer. That way, no one would suspect we had any dealings with the Bloody Syndicate."
He added, "Also, Felix got injured trying to save me. He's in the hospital now, and we need to stay and take care of him for a while."
By now, Stanley had completely calmed down.
He pursed his lips. "If there's a reason, why didn't you say so earlier?"
Samuel said, "I thought you would understand."
Stanley's face immediately darkened again.
"What's that supposed to mean?"
Amelia and the others quickly stepped in to ease the tension.
After much coaxing, Stanley finally calmed down.
Amelia pulled Samuel aside.
"Would it kill you to give in a little? Why deliberately provoke Dad?"
"He was blaming you. I can't swallow that."
"I'm not angry."
"I know you're not angry. I'm angry."
Amelia felt warm inside, but also quite troubled.
Stanley and Samuel were probably naturally at odds, so even without her, they could start arguing over casual conversation.
"You don't need to worry about us. I'm his only son—no matter how angry he gets, he can't actually hurt me."
Amelia smiled bitterly.
"But Dad's getting older, and he had such major surgery before. Try to give in to him a bit more from now on."
Samuel looked at her deeply. "What did I do to deserve such a good-tempered wife?"
"Now you know—you better treat me well from now on."
"If I don't treat you well, you can take this life back."
"Didn't you say not to say such unlucky things?"
Samuel made a zipping motion across his lips.
Amelia couldn't help but laugh.
Soon it was late at night, and everyone returned to their rooms to rest.
That night, the two didn't do anything, just held each other tightly and fell into deep sleep.
But such a peaceful night was also beautiful.
As long as they were by each other's side, they could feel happy doing nothing at all.
...
Soon it was the next day.
Both Amelia and Samuel had recovered their strength.
After breakfast, they went to the hospital to visit Felix and Sharon.
Felix was in good spirits. When he saw Amelia come in, he even wanted her to take him out of the hospital.
"It's just a minor injury. I don't think surgery is necessary at all—the bone will heal naturally in a couple days."
Amelia gave him a look.
"Do you know better, or does the doctor? I've seen your CT report. Surgery is necessary, or you'll be left with permanent damage!"
Hearing the word "damage," Felix's face turned pale, and he finally stopped demanding to leave.
Amelia suddenly realized something.
"Felix, you're not scared of surgery, are you?"
Felix's face reddened.
"No way!"
As a man, why would he be afraid of surgery?
He was just a tiny bit nervous, that's all.
Amelia smiled.
"Don't be scared, Felix. I've already talked to the hospital. I'll personally perform your surgery."
"Really?" Felix's eyes lit up.
With Amelia doing the surgery, he felt at ease and wouldn't be nervous.
"Why would I lie? Not only will I do your surgery, I'll also perform Sharon's."
Felix was completely reassured.
"Then go check on Sharon. The nurses said she won't eat and won't talk to anyone."
"Okay. I'll come back to see you in a bit."
"Okay!"
Amelia and Samuel soon went next door.
Before going, Amelia asked Felix about Sharon's relationship to Quinton.
She learned that Sharon was the daughter of the sister of the wife of Quinton's cousin.
All things considered, the relationship wasn't that close.
The reason Sharon was invited to be the flower girl was because the Richardson family had relatively few children. Among all the relatives, Sharon was the only one who fit the age requirement.
Otherwise, they wouldn't have invited such a distant relative to fly all the way to the island for the wedding.
