Chapter 388 Reunion
Chapter 388 Reunion
When Maeve didn't speak at first, and Amelia thought she was feeling sad for her about the haircut.
So she comforted her gently, "It's okay, it's just hair. It'll grow back. My nails and hair grow really fast normally. In less than a year, it'll reach my shoulders."
Who would have thought that the next moment, Maeve stared at her with bright, sparkling eyes and said, "Amelia, you look so cool with short hair. I want to marry you. If only you were a man."
Amelia felt awkward.
She knew it—you can't use normal logic to figure out what Maeve is thinking.
Samuel, who was beside her, spoke up, "She's already married. You don't have a chance."
Maeve used to be a bit afraid of Samuel, but their two days together on the island made her realize he wasn't hard to talk to, so she became bolder.
She said, "Why don't you just give Amelia to me?"
"No." Samuel refused firmly and seriously.
Maeve stuck out her tongue.
"I'm just joking. Why are you so serious?"
"Joking isn't allowed either."
Maeve snorted and ignored him. She thought Samuel was a really boring person and couldn't understand why Amelia liked him.
In her view, Samuel marrying Amelia meant he was marrying up.
She pulled Amelia over to ask in detail about what happened on the island.
Natalie and Faith were also curious.
Compared to men talking about things so seriously, Maeve wanted to know more details.
Like, how did Amelia go to the bathroom?
Standing or squatting?
Amelia said with amusement, "Tucker's room was separate with its own bathroom. I went to the bathroom however I normally would."
Maeve shrugged.
"Alright then."
Natalie laughed and interrupted Maeve's joking.
"Enough of that. I made some pumpkin pie. Let's all try it together—we're finally reunited."
They had waited too long for this reunion.
Now, it was finally happening.
Everyone sat together eating pumpkin pie.
Looking at everyone, Amelia suddenly thought of Sharon.
"How is Sharon doing now?"
Natalie sighed, not sure how to describe poor Sharon's situation.
Faith spoke up indignantly, "You have no idea how awful her parents are!"
From Faith, Amelia learned about Sharon's situation.
Before Sharon was rescued, her parents refused to leave because they thought the Richardson family's compensation was too little, saying Sharon was their treasure, worth a fortune.
Later, Natalie couldn't stand them anymore and gave them five million dollars in compensation.
Sharon's parents were thrilled—where was even a hint of worry about Sharon's safety?
However, just as they were preparing to return home, Sharon was rescued.
And she was unharmed.
Except for being thinner, having the skin on her ankles rubbed raw by the chains that had restrained her, and being somewhat frightened, there were no serious injuries.
When they saw Sharon was so unharmed, they became worried the Richardson family would take back the five million dollars in compensation.
So they actually planned to make Sharon pretend to be crazy.
If she was scared crazy, they could still rightfully keep the compensation.
Who would have thought Sharon wouldn't cooperate with her parents, feeling she couldn't deceive her saviors.
During the argument, Sharon was beaten and actually had her leg bone broken.
When Natalie went to visit that afternoon, she happened to witness this scene.
The broken leg bone was only discovered after Natalie took her to the hospital for examination.
"That couple flew back home out of guilt, abandoning Sharon! Tell me, what kind of parents are these?"
Faith was especially angry.
Because she herself hadn't received much parental love.
So seeing Sharon in a similar situation, or even worse, she deeply empathized.
"If they hadn't run so fast, I would've broken both their legs!" Faith said.
Amelia patted Faith's shoulder, signaling her not to be so agitated.
"The most important thing now is Sharon's future arrangements. As for her parents, there will be ways to deal with them later."
Faith nodded and asked Natalie, "Natalie, what are the plans for Sharon? We can't send her back to her parents, right? If we send her back, I'm afraid they'll hurt Sharon again."
"We won't send her back for now. We'll say she's recovering here, and we'll talk about it after her leg heals." Natalie said, "They definitely won't want to pay medical expenses. With us helping to take care of Sharon, they'll be happy—they won't disagree."
"But what about after her leg heals?"
Everyone in the room fell silent. No one knew what to do.
Those were her biological parents, her legal guardians.
Without their permission, they couldn't keep Sharon here.
"Let's take it one step at a time. We'll figure it out later. First, let her leg heal." Natalie said.
Amelia agreed and asked, "Who's taking care of Sharon now?"
"Marlowe."
A thought suddenly flashed through Amelia's mind.
Marlowe didn't want to get married but wanted a child, which was why she had adopted Edward before.
Now that Edward definitely couldn't stay with her anymore, what about Sharon?
But this thought only flashed by.
After all, Sharon's situation was different from Edward's. Sharon had parents, and her parents had never said they didn't want Sharon.
If they took the initiative to approach them, the other party would only get worse and deliberately demand an outrageous price.
Better to follow Natalie's suggestion and take it one step at a time.
Soon after, a visitor arrived at the door.
Amelia looked up and saw it was Stanley.
He had just rushed back from Phoenicia, looking travel-worn.
The moment he saw Samuel, Stanley, who was usually stern, actually had slightly red eyes.
But he quickly returned to his serious expression.
"Useless! You couldn't even handle a few thugs, and you had to make everyone go through all this trouble with you."
Samuel wasn't angry though.
He was already familiar with Stanley's way of speaking.
"I am useless. I made you worry during this time. I'm sorry, Dad."
Stanley's lips moved, wanting to say something more, but afraid his brain couldn't control his mouth, he simply stopped talking.
Natalie stepped in to ease the atmosphere, inviting Stanley to sit down and have some pumpkin pie.
Stanley showed Natalie respect and ate quite a bit.
After eating, Stanley spoke, "Since it's not safe here, come less often in the future. When are you planning to go back?"
