Chapter 113 Kiss Amelia's Cheek
Amelia pulled herself together. She told herself not to overthink things right now - she needed to pick up Briar from the orphanage first, or they'd be late.
Besides, Jeffrey also needed some time to handle things.
He'd already sent a message saying he'd resolved it, so she didn't need to worry too much.
With that thought, Amelia calmed down and drove toward Briar's place.
But Briar seemed a bit strange this morning - like she wanted to say something to her.
The director too seemed to want to say something but held back.
Amelia looked at Briar, then at the director.
Waiting for them to speak.
But in the end, neither Briar nor the director said anything.
So Amelia didn't ask either. She figured they had their reasons and the freedom to keep things private.
"Shall we go?" Amelia said.
Seeing Briar nod, Amelia picked up Briar's backpack, and the two headed to the kindergarten together.
"Amelia, can you pick me up this afternoon?" Briar suddenly asked before walking into the kindergarten.
Actually, most of the time it was Amelia who picked up Briar. If she was busy, she'd have someone Briar knew come instead, like Mia, Hawk, Jeffrey, and so on.
Briar usually didn't ask, so asking today meant she really hoped Amelia would come.
Thinking this, Amelia touched Briar's little face.
Amelia crouched down to Briar's eye level and said, "I'll try my best to come. If I can't make it, I'll come see you in the evening. I'll definitely see you, okay?"
Briar smiled, her eyes crinkling, and nodded hard before heading into the kindergarten.
But after just two steps, she seemed to remember something and ran back to plant a kiss on Amelia's cheek.
Then she ran off to school with a smile.
Amelia touched her face, her eyes full of warmth.
Her relationship with Briar was getting better and better.
This made Amelia feel really happy inside.
After watching Briar walk into the classroom, Amelia drove to the Adams Group.
At 8:30, Amelia's car stopped downstairs at the Adams Group. She put on a disguise and headed up.
Ever since the photos of her and Jeffrey were leaked, she'd been more careful when coming here.
She made her way to one of the most private meeting rooms. Once inside, Amelia took off her mask.
"I'll be there around 9," came Jeffrey's voice message.
Amelia nodded and picked up a notebook nearby to start sketching.
She still had details to finalize for The Sound of Heaven finals.
Time flew by. Soon, the meeting room door opened. Amelia looked up to see Jeffrey.
Jeffrey's expression was very complicated. He closed the door and sat across from Amelia.
"What's going on?" Amelia looked into Jeffrey's eyes and asked, "You look weird."
Jeffrey's fingers tapped lightly on the wooden table, as if trying to choose his words carefully.
This really surprised Amelia.
After all, Jeffrey had always been hot-tempered. What could possibly make Jeffrey so hesitant?
Thinking this, Amelia asked out loud.
"I can think things through too, okay!" Jeffrey was annoyed at the mention - last night Oliver had said he was brainless.
How infuriating!
"Ah, forget it, I'll just tell you straight." Jeffrey gave up, "This morning at the Adams Villa..."
Two hours earlier.
The Adams Villa.
Jeffrey had been watching carefully the whole time.
As soon as Beck and Zaid showed up, he'd stir things up.
Those two would love nothing more than to take him down, so they definitely wouldn't miss this chance.
Getting the investors to pressure the Adams Group's artist Lika to withdraw from the competition was their best opportunity right now!
Although the Adams Group could still get a share from The Sound of Heaven later, Lika's commercial value would be completely destroyed.
While The Sound of Heaven was important, it wasn't the most important thing - what mattered most was Lika's future business deals, various endorsements and such. That was the real priority!
If they destroyed Lika, then Jeffrey would have worked for nothing.
So Beck and Zaid kept causing trouble for Jeffrey at this critical moment.
Making snide remarks here, chatting with others there, offering deals under the table, and so on.
And Oliver didn't care at all.
Finally, when everyone had arrived, Jeffrey pulled himself together, entered the meeting room, and sat down to talk with everyone.
The people here represented various interests, and quite a few sided with Beck and Zaid. This was why he still needed time to convince others even after Amelia had won over Oliver last time.
"Mr. Adams, you didn't answer all those calls last night, so today you must give us an explanation." Someone spoke up as soon as he entered.
"Yeah, this is all of our project. If it gets shut down and we lose everything, that's not something you can handle alone, Mr. Adams!"
"Actually, I messaged you before with a solution - just remove Lika and it'll be fine. Isn't that what other shows have done before?"
"Right, remove the problem and the project can continue. We've blacklisted A-list artists before - this isn't targeting you, Mr. Adams."
Everyone started talking at once, each person seemingly pressuring Jeffrey to take a stand.
Jeffrey looked at them, jaw clenched tight.
Although what they were saying was the normal way shows handled things, Jeffrey knew very well that many of them were just enjoying the show!
Good thing Amelia had come up with a solution, or he'd be torn apart by these people today.
Thinking this, Jeffrey cleared his throat, ready to give the excuse they'd prepared.
But just then, Otis, who'd been sitting to the side playing with his phone, suddenly tapped the table.
"Everyone, listen to me for a moment!" Otis said, putting his phone in his pocket.
The Jenkins family was one of Shadow City's three major powers, and unlike the Adams family, the three heirs of the Jenkins family had a good relationship, so people didn't dare disrespect Otis.
"Regarding Lika's situation, the Jenkins family has something to say," Otis began.
Everyone looked at Jeffrey.
Everyone knew that just two days ago, the Jenkins Group had become a sponsor of the show. Now, so soon after, such a major issue had occurred - the Jenkins family would definitely want an explanation.
And with all the investor representatives present today, if Otis said something unfavorable to Jeffrey, it would be like directly announcing the Adams Group was out!
So a bunch of people watched Jeffrey with the attitude of enjoying a good show.
Beck and Zaid, sitting at the table, also looked at Jeffrey with half-smiles.
After all, becoming a sponsor this late meant the Jenkins family and Jeffrey had no prior relationship.
"The Jenkins family..."
