Chapter 302: Don't Want Her to Become an Island

Chapter 302: Don't Want Her to Become an Island

Despite Amelia’s unequivocal rejection and his own face-to-face promises, Dash still struggled to let go completely.

York stayed by Amelia's side and understood her struggle.

She didn't want things with Dash to end in a complete break.

"Compared to that information, she cares more about your safety." After thinking for a moment, York spoke up.

Dash kept his head down and said nothing.

"You have always held a place in her heart," York continued.

Dash paused slightly and looked up at York.

"As family." York added. "She sees you as a brother."

Dash felt like York had tricked him and frowned slightly.

York smiled and said, "You don't need to think you owe me a favor. I'm the one who owes you."

"If you hadn't risked getting that information, I would have sent someone else to do it, and the result would have been the same."

"However, thanks to your intervention, we secured it much sooner."

To prove his words were true, York handed Dash a document.

Dash looked through it.

It was a strategic plan.

It was just that because Dash's reason was more legitimate and less likely to be noticed, York hadn't sent people from the Jenkins Group.

Although he hoped to be with Amelia, he didn't want to imprison her.

She had her own family and friends.

He didn't want to cut off her connections with those people.

He didn't want her to become an island.

So he hoped to achieve the best of both worlds through a roundabout way.

He hoped to walk into her life, not trap her in his world.

"Jeffrey has been reaching out to other people recently." York said while watching Dash look through the documents.

Dash set the documents aside and met York's gaze..

"You want me to do the same?" Dash asked.

York didn't answer that question, but brought up something else instead.

"You accepted her relationship with William," York said, locking eyes with Dash. "Why is it so difficult to accept her being with me?"

"It's not the same." Dash frowned.

"What's different?" York asked.

Dash opened his mouth to reply, but the words failed him.

Indeed, there was no difference.

He believed that after her split with William, he finally stood a chance.

But clearly, long ago, when she was still in the hospital, she had already rejected him.

No beating around the bush.

Very straightforward.

It was he, and he alone, who had clung to a false hope.

After a long while, Dash finally spoke: "Did she ask you to talk to me?"

"No." York answered.

But Dash was somewhat doubtful.

York let out a long sigh and said. "Dash, she doesn't want to hurt you, and she wouldn't force me to do these things."

"She's caught in the middle, struggling."

Dash stayed silent, staring at York, as if trying to see whether his words were true or false.

York did not flinch, meeting Dash’s gaze with steady resolve.

"Jeffrey figured it out himself, that's why he took those actions."

York said. "Do you think he's accepting cooperation with the Jenkins Group and reaching out to new people because he doesn't care about Amelia?"

Dash's pupils shook, unable to speak.

York said gently. "Sometimes, accepting others' cooperation or help is also a kind of freedom and courage."

On the other side, Jeffrey was still cursing, joining Mia in criticizing William and the people online who were attacking Amelia.

Watching them, Dash suddenly felt like he was seeing Jeffrey in a new light.

Like Jeffrey was no longer that hot-tempered Jeffrey.

He suddenly understood that the one truly struggling was himself.

The one who couldn't let go was him, Dash.

"I'm planning to officially propose to Amelia." Beside him, York spoke up, "I want to have a wedding with her."

Dash was still looking at Jeffrey over there, not turning around.

"Amelia's father passed away many years ago."

York continued. "At the wedding ceremony, I hope you'll take on that role, holding her hand and walking her toward me."

Dash slowly turned around, looking at York, his eyes slightly moist.

York smiled and patted Dash on the shoulder.

Then York poured another cup of hot tea and handed it to Dash.

This time, Dash accepted the hot tea from York's hand.

"Okay." Dash said.

The tea's fragrance filled the air, lingering on his tongue.

Dash finished the tea.

At this moment, he had truly let go.

Over there, Jeffrey and Mia, who had been deliberately talking loudly, exchanged glances, seeing mutual understanding in each other's eyes.

Both breathed a sigh of relief.

Especially Mia.

On one side was her good friend, on the other was her own brother.

She had really been struggling these past days.

She was afraid of losing either of them.

Afraid of being forced to choose one.

Fortunately, everything was resolved now.

"Want to try my cooking tonight?" Dash stood up and asked.

"That would be great." York also stood up, following Dash to the food storage.

Mia withdrew her gaze, feeling relaxed, then looked at Jeffrey in front of her and said, "Got your eye on someone?"

Jeffrey rolled his eyes.

"Not that fast, just getting to know people." Jeffrey said, "What about you and Hawk?"

Mia smiled happily without saying anything.

"So happy, are you getting married?" Jeffrey said.

"Not exactly." Mia smiled. "Just making good progress."

Jeffrey nodded. They had all grown up together and knew each other well. It was good that they'd all find someone in the end.

"But Jeffrey, let me tell you." Mia pointed at him. "If you're getting to know other people, you can't be thinking about Amelia while being with someone else. That's not fair to them."

Jeffrey nodded, reaching out to pat Mia's head, saying. "I know."

On the video call, Alvin was shouting, telling them not to ignore him.

Mia threw a big fist right at the camera.

......

Time slowly passed.

When Amelia woke up, it was already afternoon.

She had just changed clothes and come downstairs when she heard everyone's voices.

And the aroma coming from the kitchen.

"Amelia, you're awake?" Mia was the first to spot her.

Amelia smiled and ran over, hugging Mia.

"Shouldn't you be at the office?" Amelia asked with a light smile.

"I switched shifts with a colleague." Mia immediately said, and brought her to the dining room, "Dash did too."

Amelia hesitated to speak.

Mia saw what Amelia was thinking and said, "Don't worry, Dash has figured it out."

"From now on, just treat him like a brother, same as me." Mia whispered in Amelia's ear.

Amelia was somewhat doubtful. Mia had said this before, but later...

Amelia was still thinking when Dash walked out of the kitchen wearing a frilly apron.

This look made even Amelia pause.

"You're up?" Dash said, holding cooking utensils.

Amelia nodded.

"Perfect timing, dinner will be ready soon." Dash said with a smile, his eyes very clear, just like many years ago when he looked at her and Mia.

Amelia understood.

Her nose tingled, and she nodded with a smile.
