Chapter 46

Zora POV

"Please call me back when you get this voicemail. I really need to talk to you, Dash."

"Dash abandoned you, huh?" Kaleb commented.

"Shut up, Kaleb. He had to do this."

"All I'm saying is this is a difficult time to leave someone you love."

"Let's talk about you having a fated mate instead who happens to be my sister." I raised a questioning brow.

"Come on you know how this works. I didn't have anything to do with this. Finding my mate wasn't in my plans."

"You're not going to reject her, are you?"

"Whoa, I didn't say that. Can we talk about something else?"

"Yes, please," I sighed.

"You want something to drink? I do. Something strong," Kaleb said before he escaped to the kitchen.

Keys jiggled on the other side of the door. Cass pushed the door in. She seemed surprised it wasn't locked.

"Oh, I thought you'd be at work," she said.

I offered her a sad smile.

"Oh, Zora, what happened?"

We circled back to Zelda. We couldn't avoid this topic today. It was pretty exciting though. I had a sister and my Dad was alive! I didn't expect Zelda and I to be best friends but I wanted a sisterly relationship.

"You have a mate! Hold up, you have a sister, do you think you have a brother because I want revenge?" Cass asked.

Kaleb frowned at her. "Revenge for what?"

"Zora, slept with my brother why can't I sleep with hers? It's only fair."

Heat rushed to my cheeks. "I never slept with Kaleb I swear."

"Yeah, it was harmless," Kaleb backed me up.

Cass rolled her eyes. "And I'm a virgin."

Kaleb glared at his sister. "Cassidy."

"Ugh, alright, I'll drop it but what are the odds your fated mate is Zora's sister?"

"What?" the word came from the other side of the door.

Cass groaned. "Did you call Gunner? Because I didn't."

Why's Cass so against Gunner all of a sudden?

"I had to he's the Alpha. He had to know about the attack."

Cass crossed her arms. "Fine let him in."

Kaleb opened the front door. "Dude you have a fated mate and you didn't tell me? I thought we were friends."

"Sit down, Gunner," Kaleb grumbled.

"And Zora, you have a sister and you didn't tell me? You think you know people huh…"

"I just found out about her!" I defended myself.

"Yeah, yeah. So she saved you?" he asked, leaning forward.

"She helped."

"So your sister's stalking you," Gunner asked, raising a brow.

"It's not like that. Zelda didn't know how to approach me. Just leave her alone."

"Fine fine, is Zelda a wolf?"

I opened my mouth but closed it again.

"Yes, she is," Kaleb replied.

Gunner leaned back and drummed his fingers on his thigh. "Then why don't you have a wolf?"

"Good question," Cass perked up.

All eyes were on me. Yeah, that is a good question. I lifted my shoulders.

"I don't know."

Kaleb shook his head. "She must just be human."

Gunner stood. "It's rare for two wolves to give birth to a wolfless. Are you sure the Fishers weren't giving you something to keep your wolf down?"

"Don't talk about them that way! They would never do that."

Gunner raised his hands in surrender. "They lied about a lot of shit it's a possibility. Think hard, Zora."

"No… just my usual vitamins. My parents wouldn't do that."

"If you insist, then we'll have to find your birth parents and question them. Kaleb, I need you to bring Zelda to me."

"Why?" Kaleb and I asked in unison.

"She's not from here. She needs to go through me if she's going to stay. I'm still the Alpha I have a job to do guys."

Sometimes I forgot to take him seriously.

Kaleb nodded. "I want to be there."

Gunner chuckled. "I have no intentions of getting in the way this time."

I fought the urge to roll my eyes.

Cass stood, dusted invisible dirt off her shirt, irritation rolled off her as she marched into the kitchen.

"Are we done? It's been a long stressful day and I don't want to talk about death and conspiracy theories." She reached into the fridge and pulled out a tall jug of apple juice.

I agreed with her but I couldn't shake the feeling that something more was bothering Cass. Why didn't she tell me? We were best friends.

"Yeah, we're done but I'll be back to check on you guys," Gunner said.

I hoped he didn't get any funny ideas of putting me back in the Pack House. I didn't want to deal with his girlfriend or her friend Rachel.

"I don't need a babysitter thank you," Cass frowned.

Gunner shook his head slightly. Cass carried the jug back to the fridge but she wobbled before she got there. I got to my feet as the jug slipped from her hands and hit the kitchen floor. Cass whimpered before she fell forward on the counter.

"Cass!"

She rolled off the counter and hit the floor.

"Cassidy!" Gunner yelled.

The guys rushed to help her. My best friend lay unconscious in Gunner's arms.

I knew something was wrong with her!

"We have to get her to a hospital," I said.

"Come on," Kaleb said.

"No, you're too slow I'll drive," Gunner argued.

"She's my sister!" Kaleb barked.

"I don't care who drives, Cass needs help can we go?" I pleaded.

Without another word, Gunner marched out of the front door. He carried Cass like a feather. My palms sweat and my mind ran a marathon. Kaleb put a hand on my shoulder.

"Lock up and meet me in the car, hurry up," he ordered.

I nodded. I scrambled around for the house keys. I knew where they were a second ago but my mind was a mess right now. Cass has never fainted before nor is she someone who regularly gets sick. My phone rang somewhere in the house. I stopped looking for the house keys and found my phone under my bag instead.

It was Keegan. What did he want?
