Chapter Twenty Seven: The Beginning of Revenge

Daphne's POV

“That's impossible!” They cry out.

“There's no way you could have bought any of the shares. We would know.” The gangly man yells.

“I can see, Mr Reeves, that you are clearly not here for business. Ms Daphne just brought you here to cause confusion. Kindly leave before I ask security to escort you out.” Mr Matthews yells, his face red with outrage.

“Calm down, everything will be explained.” Reeves says, taking a seat on Matthews chair, ignoring his angry sputters. Daphne darling, would you like to take over from here?”

“Of course, thank you Reeves.” I rise from my seat.

“I'm sure all of you must be very confused. I do not blame you. I'll explain everything.” They all go silent.

“You see, I was aware of everything that was happening from the very beginning. Perhaps what hurts me in this situation is that people I thought I could trust would turn their backs on me.”

“I know that you all put my shares on the market and placed such a high price on it that no one would buy it until I was out of the picture and you could buy it for yourselves. It's also the reason you all added a certain percentage so that it wouldn't seem suspicious.”

“I'm sorry to disappoint you but your plan didn't work.” Reeves continued.

“The moment I discovered the shares were on the market, though it was by accident, I bought them because I suspected that Daphne didn't know what was going on.”

He continues, “I also arranged for it so that you wouldn't know the shares have been bought.”

“We beat you at your own game.” I grin. The look of utter disbelief on their faces is epic.

“Therefore, as the largest shareholder with the highest majority, I am rescinding your vote to throw her off the board. I am also transferring seventy five percent of the shares to her so she now holds the majority vote again.”

I take my seat again. “Thank you, Reeves. My first order as the CEO is to fire every single one of you from the company. Of course, I can't take away from shares but I can remove you from every administrative position you hold in this company.”

“Before you even think about arguing, I also want to know that I am aware of all your crimes of tax evasion, money laundering and fraud. If you do not want to go to jail, I would advise that you all step down quietly.” Their faces turn pale. I'm sure they never expected this.

“That is all for today. You may all leave. And remember, do not breathe a word of this to my husband or you could find yourselves in a very tight spot.”

They start filling out one after the other until the conference room is empty. Closing my eyes, I am able to heave a sigh of relief.

“That was quite the performance you put on there, Daph, I almost believed you were in a tight corner. If you ever want a career change, you should consider acting.”

“Believe it or not, some of those emotions were real. I'm just glad it was over. Thanks for playing along.”

“Of course, you know I would do anything for you. But why didn't you just tell them that you got the shares yourself all along?”

“Learn one lesson, Reeves, never show your enemies your full arsenal. Even if it seems like you're winning. The hidden weapon might be what saves you.”

He blinks. “I have no idea what you are talking about.” He deadpans.

“Never mind,” I sigh.

“You're too stupid to understand what I'm saying anyways.”

“That said,” He gets up and walks up to me, taking my chin in his hand.

“don't you think you should reward me for my hard work?”

“Oh please don't flatter yourself. I owe you nothing.” I raise an eyebrow.

“In fact, you owe me and you know it.” I quip. Referring to the time when I invested in the first ever movie he acted and produced a movie that brought to the spotlight and won him countless awards.

To be fair, he did try to pay me back but I declined saying that I preferred if he owned me instead and I cashed in at a later date.

At that time I never thought I would cash in the favor like this.

“So consider this a part payment for all my generous help.”

“Oh, I could pay you back in other ways too if you wish, Daph. By the way, have I told you you look stunning today?”

He picks up a lock of my hair and twirls it . “I love this color on you. Though I prefer you gorgeous auburn locks, you look delectable as a brunette too.”

“Don't you think you are being too brave, knucklehead?” I quip, resorting to calling him by his childhood nickname. He grins but there is a sad light in his eyes.

“Actually, I haven't been brave enough and that ends today. I should have been more forthcoming with you about my feelings. This wouldn't have happened if I was more forthcoming.”

“Oh don't look so sad. You act like you've been pining for me all these years. It was a childhood crush. We both know you've moved on. If the number of women that are on your arm every week is any indication.” I know he doesn't really have feelings for me. He is just guilty that he could have stopped me from getting married.

He didn't know at the time because he was in a remote location, filming a movie. He couldn't find out until he came back and it was already too late.

It's not like I would have listened to him anyways. But the truth is, nobody could have. At least not then. I was too blinded by love.

I offer him a sad smile. The look on his face is so gut wrenchingly sad that it pricks at my heart. He really does feel guilty.

“I'm fine. I whisper.

He stretches out his hand to touch my
face before-

“Don't you lay a finger on her!” Someone growls out from the doorway.
