“I don’t know,” Arnav admitted with a sheepish grin, his handsome face lighting up with that familiar charm.
“I just… said it. But it’s a combination of our names, Arnav and Raellyn.” He gestured toward their son with a proud little smirk. “It suits my son perfectly, doesn’t it? And I’m pretty sure he just agreed.”
Raellyn held back the urge to roll her eyes. “He’s my son too,” she muttered, though the playful tone in her voice betrayed her feigned annoyance. Then, softening instantly, she turned her gaze toward the tiny bundle in her arms. Her expression melted into a serene tenderness as she pressed a gentle kiss to her baby’s forehead, a whisper of pure devotion escaping her lips.
“Do you like that name, my sweet Arrael?” she murmured.
The baby’s faint, drowsy smile seemed to be answer enough, filling Raellyn’s chest with a quiet, overflowing joy. Arrael. So simple, yet heavy with meaning wrapped in the unspoken hopes and prayers of two new parents. In that name lived their wish that one day, their son would grow into someone extraordinary, someone worthy of all the love that had brought him into this world. Raellyn couldn’t help but laugh softly, her heart swelling at the sight of her husband beaming like that, with their son’s tiny smile as if sealing their choice. In that moment, everything felt right and complete.
The soft creak of the door startled the two souls inside the quiet room. Both their heads turned toward the sound, and there, stepping into the gentle light, was a middle-aged man whose presence carried a warmth that immediately softened the air.
“Uncle,” Raellyn breathed, her voice laced with tender surprise. The recognition struck her like a sudden burst of sunlight after a long night. She glanced toward Arnav, who met her gaze with a faint, knowing smile. Emotion swelled in her chest she hadn’t expected this. She had assumed that Arnav, exhausted and preoccupied from the endless demands of yesterday, would keep the news to themselves for now, not burdening family or kin with the early morning excitement. She had not pressed him to share it, fully aware of his fatigue.
And yet, here he was, her uncle standing at the threshold, bringing with him the quiet warmth of family. Raellyn’s heart quivered with gratitude. Her family… they were the first to know that her son had arrived in this world.
“Where is my grandson, Raellyn? Let me see him,” her uncle said, his voice trembling with unrestrained joy. His eyes, bright and almost boyish with anticipation, scanned the room eagerly. The happiness rolling off him was palpable, spilling over in a way that no effort could conceal. Upon receiving the news that his beloved niece had given birth, he had clearly not hesitated for even a heartbeat. He had rushed to the hospital without a single thought for anything else.
“Here he is, Uncle,” Raellyn whispered, her smile tender as she lifted her newborn, her arms forming a cradle of love, and presented the tiny life to him.
A radiant smile bloomed on the man’s weathered face, the lines of age softening under the weight of joy. “Oh… he’s adorable,” he murmured, wonder in every syllable. His eyes moved between the child and the young parents, glistening. “He looks just like both of you… a perfect little reflection. What’s his name?”
“His name is Arrael. Uncle, would you like to hold him?” Raellyn asked softly, her voice trembling with a tender mix of pride and excitement.
The man nodded, a gentle, eager smile spreading across his face. With careful, reverent movements, he accepted the tiny bundle from Raellyn’s arms. Baby Arrael settled into his embrace as if he had always belonged there. Raellyn’s chest swelled with quiet joy, her lips curving in a smile as she watched her uncle cradle her son with an expression that radiated pure, unfiltered happiness. It was a kind of light that could warm even the coldest room.
Beside her, Arnav’s low murmur broke the reverent silence, his words grazing her ear like a private thought. “Your face… it carries a happiness that feels… incomplete. What are you thinking, love?”
Raellyn let out a soft laugh, though it wavered with emotion. “I am happy. I just… I still can’t believe I brought our son into this world with my own strength. And I can’t help thinking, Mother and Father… they must be happy too, right?” Her voice faltered as her fingers instinctively sought his, intertwining with his warm, steady hand.
Arnav’s gaze softened, a depth of understanding swimming in his dark eyes. He tightened his hold on her hand, grounding her in that tender moment. “Yes,” he said gently, “they must be overjoyed, seeing their grandson. Even if they aren’t here… I know they’re watching from heaven.”
The room fell into a hush, filled only with the soft rhythm of the baby’s breathing and the muted symphony of the world outside the hospital walls. It was a silence heavy with love, threaded with the presence of those who were gone yet never truly absent.
“You haven’t told your mother yet?”
“That—”
Arnav’s words were abruptly cut short by the polite clearing of a throat at the doorway. Both he and Raellyn turned, surprised, just in time to see the room brighten with the arrival of more visitors.
Not long after her uncle’s entrance, the door seemed to open to a small parade: her cousins, Lita and Sharon, followed by her former colleague and loyal friend from her screenwriting days, Violet, hand-in-hand with her boyfriend, Oswald. And, to her utter astonishment, Gilbert was there as well, stepping into the room with an almost bashful smile.
“Raellyn, Arnav, congratulations on your first child!” Lita chirped, her voice carrying a cheer that seemed to spill into every corner of the room. Her hand clung tightly to Gilbert’s, as though she was subtly showcasing their relationship to anyone who would notice.
Raellyn couldn’t help the warm smile spreading across her face. “Thank you,” she said softly, her heart swelling at the sight of familiar faces celebrating her joy.
“Oh my God! I’ve been waiting for your wedding reception all this time,” Violet exclaimed, the dramatic flair in her voice filling the space like she owned it. “And now, suddenly, you’ve gone and had a baby! No wonder you’ve been so elusive lately. And your husband—” Her eyes swept over Arnav, and a teasing grin tugged at her lips. “—he’s as dashing as he is intimidating. I swear I feel like I’ve seen him somewhere before…”
Violet’s gaze lingered, sharpening as she studied him more closely. Then, as realization dawned, her eyes flew wide open, and she slapped a hand to her mouth in theatrical shock.
“Wait! Don’t tell me… you’re Arnav? Sir Arnav? The director? The one Raellyn used to chase around like a hopeless fangirl?” Her voice pitched higher, verging on incredulous laughter. “What the fuck?! I mean, what on earth? what kind of plot twist is this, Raellyn? You never said anything about your husband! Why didn’t you tell me when you were dating him, huh?”
