Chapter 128: All Our Sakes
Chapter 128: All Our Sakes
Magnus’ POV
Magnus wiped at his face roughly with the back of his hand, though his tears still fell freely. He didn’t care. At least now there was something to hold on to.
The mate bond. She was still theirs.
But then, a thought gnawed at him. His eyes narrowed as he turned toward Alexander.
“Wait a damn second,” he said. “How do you know all this, huh? How do you know exactly what Meredith said, what she felt, why she left?”
Alexander’s jaw tightened. His gaze dropped to his clasped hands. For the first time, the calm doctor seemed uneasy.
Magnus straightened, something flashing in his eyes. “Spit it out…” he ordered.
The silence stretched heavy between them until Alexander finally exhaled and lifted his head.
“Because I was the one who helped her run away...”
Magnus froze. The words hit like a blade to the gut.
His wolf surged inside him, and a violent snarl rattled his chest. His jaw clenched tight, his fists curling so hard his knuckles cracked. In the next moment, he seized Alexander by the collar and yanked him forward. His amber eyes blazed.
“You?” Magnus growled, his voice dangerously low. “You helped my little wolf leave me? You helped her walk away from us?”
Alexander didn’t resist. He didn’t fight back at all. He simply sat there, collar bunched in Magnus’s fist.
“Yes,” he said quietly. “I did.”
Magnus’s wolf demanded blood. His muscles trembled with the urge to break the man in half, to tear out his throat, to make him pay for betraying them all.
But his hands… they didn’t move. He held Alexander there, teeth bared, breathing hard, but something stopped him.
Alexander’s voice came steady. “I’m sorry. I thought I was doing the right thing. I thought… letting her go would be better for her. Better for the Moonlit Pack. I believed I was sparing you all greater troubles.”
Magnus’s lip curled. “You call this sparing? You call this better?” His voice cracked. “You tore our Luna away from us!”
“I know,” Alexander said, his voice breaking for the first time. “I know now. I was wrong. Helping her run didn’t fix anything. It made it worse. It will destroy everything if I don’t make it right.”
Magnus stared at him, his chest heaving. His hand still fisted the man’s collar, but his grip shook now.
Alexander didn’t flinch. He didn’t beg. He only met Magnus’s blazing eyes. “That’s why I’m here. That’s why I told you all this. Because I need to make it right.”
Magnus’s breathing slowed, though his fury still burned. His fists loosened slightly, though he didn’t let go. The rage and the grief twisted inside him, eating at him, but beneath it, something else flickered.
There was a fragile hope that maybe, just maybe, Alexander truly could help fix what he had broken.
Finally, Magnus released him, shoving him firmly. “Then you better pray to the Moon Goddess you can...”
Alexander adjusted his collar. “I intend to.”
Magnus was still seething. More than anything in this world, he wanted to see his little wolf now, no matter what.
“Then tell me, doc. How the hell do you plan to make this all right? Because I swear words aren’t enough to tame me anymore. Not after what you did.”
Alexander straightened his collar, then clasped his hands in his lap again. “I know where she went…” he answered firmly, now staring at Magnus’s eyes.
Magnus froze. His wolf’s ears perked as if it had heard prey. “What?”
“I know where Meredith is living now,” Alexander continued. “I spoke with the driver who brought her back to the human world. He also thought he was helping me keep her safe. He told me everything. Don’t worry, I now have her address...”
Magnus’s heart slammed against his ribs. He leaned in, eyes sharp. “You’re serious? You know where she really is?”
“Yes, I know,” Alexander said, steady as stone. “And there’s more.”
Magnus narrowed his eyes, his wolf prowling inside him. “More? What the hell else could there be?”
Alexander hesitated for the first time, his gaze shifting away toward the trees.
“There is something Meredith herself doesn’t know.” His voice grew softer. “Something about her… about what she carried with her when she left.”
Magnus’s chest tightened. “What the hell’s it?” he pressed. “Tell me...”
But Alexander only shook his head. “I’m sorry, but not yet. The time will come, and soon you’ll understand why we must wait. But for now, I will give you this much…” He looked back at Magnus. “She left carrying more than her own life. She left carrying yours. All of yours.”
The words struck Magnus so hard that it almost made him gasp. His lips parted, his breath hitched, but Alexander gave no more.
Magnus swallowed hard, a thousand thoughts now colliding in his head. He wanted to scream, to demand every detail.
But for now, their main focus was to bring Meredith back to where she really meant to be.
He couldn’t sit here longer. He couldn’t hold this all alone. Damien and Xavier had to know. They had to hear this as well. Meredith was also their mates after all.
Magnus stood abruptly, his chest aching. Even his wolf already wanted to shift.
“I have to tell them,” he said, his voice hoarse. “I have to tell Alpha Damien and Beta Xavier. They need to know everything you told me.”
Dr. Alexander also rose to his feet, nodding slowly. “Please do it for me,” he said.
Magnus’s grin flickered back at him. “You’d better hope they listen before they kill you, doc. For all our sakes.”
He turned toward the hospital doors, shoulders squared despite the ache still throbbing in his entire frame.
He whispered to himself, as if sending the words out into the day, “Meredith… please, don’t let it be too late.”
And with that, Gamma Magnus Langley marched back inside, ready to face his brothers and tell them the truth that could either save them or destroy them forever.
