Chapter 125: Shitty Place

Chapter 125: Shitty Place
Magnus’ POV

Magnus stirred, his eyelids heavy, his body aching from wounds that cut deep. The first sound he caught was the steady beep of a monitor. He blinked until the blur faded.

For a moment, he just lay there, listening to the soft hum of the machines. No voices. No footsteps. No family waiting at his side.

Of course not. There was no one left, after all.

His chest tightened, but he forced it down anyway. He’d learned to live that way for years. Since the night his pack was slaughtered, and he crawled out as the only one who survived.

That silence, this silence… it was almost the same.

So, he did what he always did. He just smiled despite everything.

It wasn’t a wide smile, of course. Not when his heart was still so heavy.

But it was his way of telling everyone. The boyish grin he had carried through every scar and wound.

“I’m still fucking alive,” he whispered to himself. “This world can’t get rid of me that easily.”

But then he thought of her little wolf.

Meredith…

The name alone made the smile widen this time. God. Her laughter. Her innocent eyes. The way she smelled like the sun and sweet honey. Like something he never thought he could have in this cruel world.

He tried to feel her through the bond, but he wondered why she felt so far away. He thought she was probably asleep, just like him. Resting. Healing. Taking her time, all alone.

Soon, he swore he’d find her. Soon, he’d tease her, make her blush, and hold her again. He could almost feel her pressed against him, her lips soft, her skin hot under his touch.

Even the thought of her closing around him made his chest flutter.

Magnus chuckled under his breath, ignoring the sting in his ribs. “Wait until she sees me,” he told himself, staring absentmindedly at the ceiling. “She’ll be mad I kept her waiting this long.”

His wolf stirred inside him, eager and alive even after what they had gone through. Well, not really hungry for blood, not even for war.

But for her, and no one else. For his own Luna. Well, if only he still had his former pack. He was the son of the Alpha, after all. Of course, he wondered, hoped, and wished sometimes. Like most boys do.

But then he also knew that he couldn’t afford to think about what ifs and what could have beens. It was all in the past now. Now, he just had to focus on the present and the future. Him and Meredith.

Magnus closed his eyes again. Not really because he was tired, but because he wanted to hold onto that image. Meredith’s face when she saw him. The way she’d melt in his arms. The way he’d kiss her until the world disappeared.

He didn’t notice the bond felt faint. He didn’t even feel that cold pit that Damien and Xavier had. He refused to. Or he just didn’t know it yet.

For Magnus Langley, there was only one truth worth believing: Meredith was still his. And when he saw her again, he would love her so hard she would never think of leaving him.

And why would she, right? She already had the three of them: Alpha Damien, Beta Xavier, and him—the great Gamma Magnus Langley. What else would she want? They would give her everything they had, everything she needed and wanted.

There was just no way she would dare to leave him. No fucking way.

The door creaked open suddenly. Magnus’s eyes lit up instantly, his heart jumping like a dog finally seeing his owner.

His body tensed, ignoring the pain throughout.

Meredith. It had to be her. Who else would walk inside at a time like this? It seemed she desperately wanted to see him as much as he did.

But when the figure stepped inside, it wasn’t Meredith. Not at all. And he couldn’t help but pout.

It was a young nurse, barely more than a teen. Her cheeks flushed pink the moment she saw him awake. She nearly stumbled over her own steps as she crossed the ground.

Magnus leaned back against the pillows, letting a grin spread across his face.

“Well, hello there.” His voice came light, as though he hadn’t just crawled back from the edge of death.

The nurse ducked her head, clearly flustered, and busied herself with the chart in her hands.

“H-how are you feeling, Gamma Magnus?” she asked. “Any dizziness? Shortness of breath?”

“Mm, let me think…” Magnus tapped his chin as if in deep thought, then flashed her another smile. “Well, I can breathe. I can see. I don’t think there’s anything wrong now.”

She scribbled something quickly, trying to hide her smile.

Magnus tilted his head, still grinning, but when he spoke again, his tone softened. “Can you do something for me, nurse?”

The nurse blinked and nodded at once. “Sure, what’s it?”

“Where’s Meredith?” he asked. “How’s she doing? She must’ve woken up by now, right? Can I see her now? Please?”

The nurse froze, her pen stopping mid-scratch. Her eyes flicked up, then quickly back down.

“I’m sorry, but you should rest. And please don’t move too much. Besides, your body is still healing.”

“I see…” he simply answered.

Magnus’s grin faltered for the briefest moment, but he caught it, hiding the twist in his gut. He decided not to press her. Nurses had rules. They weren’t supposed to gossip. He’d see Meredith soon enough anyway.

Later, she placed a tray of food beside his bed. “Please eat something,” she said. “It will help you recover faster.”

Magnus glanced at the tray. Plain porridge, a small piece of bread, and a cup of water. His wolf gave a low huff of disapproval. He chuckled, shaking his head.

“Thanks,” he said warmly, giving her his boyish smile again. “But you know… this won’t compare to Meredith’s cooking. She makes the best food. You’ll see. When she cooks for the pack one day, you’ll understand.”

The nurse hesitated, her lips pressing tight, but said nothing more. She simply bowed her head and slipped out, leaving him alone again.

Magnus now stared at the tray, still smiling to himself. Meredith’s food. Her laugh in the kitchen. The way she’d pout if he teased her while she stirred a pot…

His stomach growled, but not for porridge, actually. No, he was hungry for her.

He groaned and finally pushed himself upright. Pain shot through his side, but he ignored it. Reckless as always, he tore the IV from his arm, stripped the wires from his chest, and kicked the blanket off.

His feet hit the cold floor, and he stretched, wincing but grinning like a fool.

“Finally,” he breathed, rolling his shoulders. “Time to go see my Luna myself.”

Every part of him ached, but his excitement drowned it out. He was ready to walk out of this shitty place, find her, hold her, and never let her go again.
