Chapter 170 Wanting Her Sick?
"I don't need your lawyer anymore, so what I promised you doesn't count," Abigail said, looking down, unable to meet the man's gaze.
Edward lifted her chin, bringing his face close to hers, their noses almost touching.
"You think you can just take what's mine and give it back?"
Abigail was shocked.
What kind of filthy talk was this?
"But you've already taken it. I don't accept returns without a reason."
Abigail didn't want to discuss this any further. She pushed him away and ran downstairs.
"I'm not talking to you anymore. I'm hungry."
Abigail made her escape, and Edward chuckled as he watched her hurried departure.
The atmosphere in the house finally lightened up. Murray and Ondine exchanged glances and smiled as well.
On Friday evening, Abigail received a call from the butler at the Harrison Mansion. William wanted them to come home for dinner. He specifically mentioned that Elijah and Tristan were not invited, so she and Edward could come without worry.
Abigail smiled and agreed.
William usually didn't call them over, but lately, he had been doing so more often. It seemed the old man was feeling his age and needed the company of his family.
Checking the time, Abigail sent Edward a message. Half an hour later, he replied, saying he was busy but asked her to come up to his office after work.
Abigail agreed.
When the workday ended and most of her colleagues had left, she took the elevator upstairs.
The assistants were still in their office. Daniel saw her and invited her in.
"I don't want to disturb him. I'll wait here," Abigail said, hearing Edward talking with someone inside.
"If you don't go in, Mr. Harrison will definitely scold me," Daniel insisted.
Abigail pursed her lips and reluctantly agreed.
Daniel opened the door for her. Almost immediately, the guest in the office looked at her and smiled warmly.
"Mr. Graham!" Abigail exclaimed in surprise.
"You two talk business. I won't interrupt," Abigail said, making a zipping motion over her lips and sitting on the sofa.
Daniel brought her a glass of juice, and she started sketching on her tablet.
Edward and Marcus continued their discussion, which soon turned into an argument. Abigail looked up, startled, to see Marcus's usually calm face tinged with red.
"Alright, Mr. Graham, let's not argue. We'll see how things go," Edward said, rubbing his temples, looking a bit frustrated.
Marcus stood up. "We'll talk later. I hope you remain as stubborn then."
The two parted on bad terms. Abigail wanted to mediate, but Marcus left without giving her a chance.
She opened her mouth, then closed it in resignation.
"Miss Peterson, Violette likes you a lot. If you have time, please spend more time with her. She's very lonely," Marcus said, bowing slightly.
Abigail quickly went over to help him up. "Mr. Graham, you're too kind. Violette and I hit it off right away. I like her a lot too. I'll spend more time with her. Just be prepared—Violette is a shopaholic, so your wallet might take a hit," she joked lightly to ease the tension.
Marcus smiled genuinely. "Thank you."
He glanced at Edward, then turned back to Abigail. "Miss Peterson, you're a good person, but your boyfriend..."
"Sorry, I have to go," Marcus said abruptly, leaving. Daniel tactfully closed the door behind him.
Abigail turned back, only to be pulled into Edward's arms, stumbling into his chest.
"So, every guy suits your taste except me?" Edward said, his tone dripping with sarcasm.
Abigail felt exhausted by his attitude.
Suddenly, she frowned, clutching her stomach and bending over.
Edward's eyes widened, and he quickly steadied her. "Your stomach hurts? I'll take you to the hospital!"
He scooped her up and rushed to the elevator.
As the elevator descended, Abigail sneaked a glance at Edward's stern face. She felt an urge to laugh but held it in.
"If we go to the hospital... we can't have dinner with William tonight," she said, biting her lip.
"What's more important, dinner or your health?" Edward snapped, his face even more serious.
In the car, as Edward sped towards the hospital, Abigail realized she might have overdone it. She sat up and said, "I feel better now. Let's go to the Harrison Mansion."
"No way. We're going to the hospital!" Edward refused, thinking she was just putting on a brave face.
"I'm really fine," Abigail insisted.
Edward glanced back. Abigail's lips were red, and her eyes were bright. She didn't look sick at all.
But what if...
"We're going to the hospital!" Edward said firmly.
At the ER, Abigail was taken inside. She felt a sense of déjà vu.
After a series of tests, she was declared healthy.
Lying on the hospital bed, Abigail watched Edward's face carefully.
He should be angry since she faked being sick.
Despite the doctor's assurance, Edward's expression remained tense.
Abigail felt pain in her stomach. How could she be healthy?
Incompetent quack!
The doctor, Rodolfo McCoy, annoyed by Edward's attitude, snapped, "Sir, your girlfriend is healthy. What more do you want?"
A nurse, seeing the new doctor arguing with Mr. Harrison, tried to intervene. "Dr. McCoy, please, this is..."
"First time I've seen someone wish their girlfriend was sick. Unbelievable!" Rodolfo, who had a girlfriend himself, couldn't understand Edward's behavior.
His girlfriend's slightest injury would leave him worried for days, yet this man's girlfriend was pregnant, and he still wished she was sick?
Edward's cold smile seemed to say, "You have guts. Even the hospital director wouldn't talk to me like that."
The nurse was puzzled. Rodolfo was known for his good looks and gentle demeanor. What was going on today?
"Mr. Harrison, Dr. McCoy is new and doesn't know you. I apologize on his behalf," the head nurse said, trying to smooth things over.
"No need to apologize for me. I did nothing wrong!" Rodolfo insisted.
As they argued, James arrived. He had reviewed Abigail's test results and reached the same conclusion as Rodolfo.
"She's not sick?" Edward asked.
James was taken aback. "Do you want Miss Peterson to be sick?"
Rodolfo, pushed out of the room by the head nurse, overheard this and was furious. "A man hoping his pregnant girlfriend is sick? Disgusting!"
