Chapter 27 His Mate!
DAVINA'S POV
Before I could process what was happening, he already had me pinned to the wall.
His forearm pressed against my collarbon
e, and his eyes scanned my face.
“You,” he said, his grip tightening, “I really want to know what Zane sees in you that makes him so furious by the mere suggestion of handing you over to Grayson.” His hands were still covering my mouth, making it hard to breathe.
“Tell me, did he bring you here just to satisfy his urges? Is that it? If so, there are plenty of other ladies he could choose from here. Beautiful and strong ones. Hell, even some wolves in our pack would jump at the chance. So why a human? Why bring you here?” He kept firing questions at me, each one more intense than the last.
I struggled to break free, but it only seemed to excite him more. He flashed an evil smirk. “No matter how much you squirm, you won’t escape my grip. So, I’d suggest you stop fighting.” He leaned in closer, pulling me even tighter against him.
I couldn’t shake the feeling of dread. What was he planning to do? How disgusting could this guy be?
“I bet you’d taste good, but not as good as our wolf ladies. I want to see and have a taste of what’s so special about you.”
He finally removed his hand from my mouth, but the moment he did, he warned, “Don’t even think about making a sound. That’ll just make me angrier, and I might do something I’ll regret.” That shut me up real fast, so I just stayed there shivering while watching him.
I was tired already, of being scared of what was outside and now what I had to face inside here that I thought I could be safe.
I was scared of these creatures I thought didn't exist but had to find out that they did.
I was scared of dying here and being remembered and mourned by only Liam. He was the only person I knew now, because I had left the town I had grown up in after losing my parents and leaving my toxic ex.
The sad reality was that I was all alone in this world, with no one who truly cared. I couldn’t even say much about Zane, I barely knew him, and in the short time we’d spent together, I’d faced more danger than I ever had in my life.
I was genuinely tired so I just stayed there and watched, just watched whatever this man standing here was planning to do to me because the one thing I would never do was beg him.
His hand moved to my chin, gripping it tightly. “You have inviting lips. I wonder what they taste like.” He leaned in, trying to kiss me.
Disgust washed over me, but I was too tired to fight back. My spirit, soul, and body was drained so I just stood there.
Maybe I had finally snapped. Just maybe this place had finally broken me.
I was still standing and waiting when I heard my name being called out from outside.
“Davina! Davina!” It was Zane.
But I remained frozen against the wall, lacking the strength to move. Before Jax could let me go, Zane kicked open the door.
His eyes found me first, assessing me for a second, and then they moved to Jax and something in his face went completely blank.
He moved so fast and his hand grabbed Jax's collar and he dragged him backward away from me like he weighed nothing, throwing him into the opposite wall so hard.
Jax barely had time to find his feet before Zane was on him, driving him to the ground, and started punching him, and by this time the commotion was already attracting several wolves to the scene.
"How dare you," His voice was shaking with barely contained rage. "How dare you put your filthy hands on her." He landed another punch and Jax's head snapped sideways. "How dare you touch my mate! You dare not touch what belongs to me!" He landed another punch. "You dare not lay your fucking hands on her!" He kept yelling as he punched him further.
All the while I was just standing there, and looking as shocked as the rest of the wolves who had already started talking loudly because of what they had just heard from their alpha prince.
The one who was meant to rule them. The one who was meant to have a strong Luna leading side by side with him.
I already started to pity them because it seemed like their hope was about to be shattered.
“How is this even possible?” one wolf exclaimed, his voice tinged with confusion.
“Are we really going to have a human as our Luna?” another asked, disbelief etched on her face.
“This is ridiculous! How can a human possibly lead us? This is unacceptable!” Yet another chimed in, clearly agitated.
I leaned against the wall, wishing more than anything that the ground would just open up and swallow me whole. I had never been one to attract attention, especially not negative attention. And I also wasn't someone that had ever felt like she wasn't important.
The only time I felt like I didn’t matter was with my ex, who was just the worst. Other than that, I’d always held my head high, so I wouldn't be looked down on wherever I went, until I came to this compound.
I had tried to be strong, to act strong but all that failed.
And right now, I was in the middle of something I knew was going to be difficult.
Not like I had any intention of being their Luna or whatever they called it, but then I could understand their view of things.
How could a fragile human like me possibly lead a pack of wolves, creatures who were not only older but stronger in every conceivable way? What could I possibly do to be better than a wolf?
“That's enough! Zane, let him go right now!” Silas’s voice echoed through the room, snapping me back to reality.
But Zane didn’t listen. He kept throwing punches at Jax, who was already bloodied and sprawled on the floor.
“I said enough!” Silas shouted again, and finally, Zane released Jax, scrambling to his feet and rushing over to me.
“Are you okay, Dee? Are you hurt? Did he touch you?” His questions tumbled out as he anxiously checked me over.
I couldn’t help but notice how he shortened my name to “Dee” in front of this crowd of wolves, and how he seemed to tune out everything else around us, completely unfazed by what anyone else thought. The wolves’ eyes widened in disbelief at the scene unfolding before them.
“Both of you, to the general hall now!” Silas ordered, directing his words at Jax and Zane.
Without hesitation, they obeyed. Zane grabbed my wrist after making sure I wasn't hurt, while Jax slowly got up from the floor. As everyone
else filed out of the room, we headed toward the general hall together.
