Chapter 272
To Philip and Spencer, Leon was nothing more than a useless nobody.
Even though he was an agent for the Eagle Group, Philip and Spencer no longer feared the Eagle Group, and certainly not Leon.
Spencer chuckled and said, "Charlotte, as far as I know, Mr. Corleone from the Eagle Group wasn't invited to this event."
"That's right. Mr. Corleone is supposedly the most influential person in Rock State, but he didn't get an invite," Philip nodded, "I heard it's because Mr. Corleone doesn't get along with the Marine Corps instructor. Now that the new commander is the instructor's subordinate, Mr. Corleone is done for. Even if he was the former head of the Corleone family, it doesn't matter. When he faces the Marine Corps instructor, he's finished."
The group laughed heartily, clearly enjoying themselves.
Spencer approached Leon and whispered, "Leon, Mr. Corleone might have saved you once, but that doesn't mean he can always save you. After today's ceremony, his status won't be as high as it used to be. When that time comes, consider it!"
Spencer made a gesture of slitting his throat with a knife before walking away.
These people were all high-status individuals and wouldn't waste too much time on someone they considered a nobody.
Matthew and Samara were stunned. Spencer, Philip, and the others were all prominent figures in Angel City's high society. Matthew and Samara didn't even have the right to speak in their presence.
They never expected Leon to have offended such important people and seemingly have deep grudges with them.
But Matthew and Samara finally understood the true identity of Leon's wealthy friend. It turned out Leon's friend was the former heir of the Corleone Family!
Leon was the driver for the president of the Eagle Group. No wonder he talked big; after all, he worked for the Eagle Group.
However, what Spencer said made sense. If the president of the Eagle Group wasn't invited, it meant changes were coming to Rock State.
Thinking about this, Matthew turned to Leon and asked, "Leon, I hope you can answer me honestly. Are you Mr. Corleone's driver?"
Leon replied, "Yes, I usually drive for Mr. Corleone. Unless I have something else to do, he calls another driver."
Matthew's expression became complicated. He would have been thrilled to hear this news before, but now he was worried. He asked, "Do you know if Mr. Corleone was invited?"
Leon said, "No."
After Leon spoke, Matthew looked very frustrated. He had hoped that since Leon became the driver for the president of the Eagle Group, Leon would be more useful than before.
But if even the president of the Eagle Group wasn't coming, it meant he wasn't as powerful as he used to be.
Matthew lost interest and didn't bother asking Leon more questions. He sighed and said, "Even though you're just a driver, it seems you've made a lot of enemies. Spencer and the others seem like they want to kill you."
"What did you do to make them hate you so much?" Matthew asked, his voice tinged with concern.
Leon shrugged and smiled, "Matthew, they're just a bunch of nobodies. You don't need to worry about their attitudes. If they ever met Mr. Corleone, they'd be scared out of their minds."
Matthew gave a wry smile. "I hope you're right, or you're in big trouble."
Samara finally snapped out of her daze and asked, "Leon, are you planning to take us to this military change of command ceremony?"
Caitlin looked at Leon curiously, wondering what he was planning.
"Yeah, Matthew, Samara, I brought you here because I have a way to get you into the ceremony," Leon said confidently. "The soldiers know me. They know who I am."
"Oh, I see," Matthew said, exchanging a glance with Samara. They both nodded, starting to believe Leon wasn't exaggerating. He really was the driver for the president of the Eagle Group and had accompanied him to many similar events. Otherwise, the soldiers wouldn't recognize him.
Just as Leon said, he smoothly led Caitlin and the others into the venue, with soldiers guiding them and explaining the situation. This scene gave Matthew and Samara some confidence. It seemed the president of the Eagle Group still had some status, not as bad as Spencer and the others claimed.
The four of them wandered around the venue, listening to the soldiers' explanations. Caitlin's family was full of curiosity, having never been to such an event before. Leon was already very familiar with the place, so he wasn't particularly interested, but he listened patiently for Caitlin's sake.
Meanwhile, Charlotte and the others took their seats inside. Once they were seated, Stephen, who was in charge of the arrangements, came over to greet them.
"Stephen, did you make a mistake with the guest list? Did you add Leon and Caitlin to the list?" Charlotte asked.
Stephen shook his head. "Impossible. I checked the list carefully, and there were no names like Leon or Caitlin. Even if they were invited, I could remove their names. I have that authority."
"Oh, I see," Charlotte said, a smirk forming on her lips.
After Stephen spoke, the Clark Family members laughed.
Isabella couldn't help but ask, "If that's the case, why are they here?"
Stephen laughed, "They're just outside. Whenever there's an event here, ordinary people can enter a lottery on the website to get a spot outside. I guess they got lucky and won a spot."
The Clark Family members laughed even harder, thinking Caitlin's family was lucky to win a spot.
Other guests began arriving, including Martin, Caleb, Landon, and others. Arthur and Victoria sat next to Martin, followed by the Clark Family, the Ford Family, the Palmer Family, and so on.
In addition to these families, there were officials from various government systems in Rock State, and people like Brooks from Angel City also attended.
Once everyone was seated, the six seats in the front row remained empty.
