Chapter 263
"Leon, are you seriously bragging right now? Do you even know who those guys who grabbed you were? They were professional mercenaries. If it weren't for the Clark Family stepping in and getting the cops to search for you, you'd be dead by now," Matthew huffed.
"Didn't you see all the extra cops on the streets? That was all because of you. The entire Angel City police force was mobilized," Samara reminded.
Matthew and Samara thought they had the situation figured out, and they were fuming.
To them, Leon was just a show-off. It was clear to them that Caitlin had saved Leon, but Leon didn't see it that way. Instead, he believed it was his own doing, which made Matthew and Samara very unhappy.
Caitlin said, "Mom, the truth isn't what's important right now. What's important is that we're all safe."
After Caitlin finished speaking, Leon gave a bitter smile, unsure of how to explain.
Even if he told Caitlin that he had single-handedly dealt with all the mercenaries, Caitlin wouldn't believe him. It sounded like something out of a movie.
"Leon, Caitlin gave up everything to save you. Can't you think about her for a moment? The shares she had in the Sunshine Group were worth at least $2 billion."
Matthew sighed, but it was too late to regret it now. Caitlin had already transferred the shares to the Clark Family, and there was no way they would give them back.
Leon was deeply moved. He hadn't expected Caitlin to sacrifice $2 billion to save him.
Thinking about this, Leon said, "Matthew, Samara, Caitlin, don't worry. It's just the Sunshine Group; it's not that valuable. $2 billion is nothing. If the Clark Family is so interested in the Sunshine Group, let them have it. I'll help Caitlin create a new company and make her the richest woman in the world."
Leon genuinely intended to do this. He planned to go to Crystal City after the ceremony. Before that, he would help Caitlin clear any obstacles in Angel City and then let her dominate the market.
That way, Caitlin could quickly build a new company worth at least $10 billion because Leon knew Caitlin's capabilities. He knew all she needed was an opportunity.
The Sunshine Group was good, but Leon didn't care about it.
However, after Leon finished speaking, Matthew and Samara were stunned. After a while, Matthew sighed and said, "Forget it. Things are the way they are now. There's no use regretting it. We're leaving."
With that, Matthew took Samara and left, filled with disappointment.
They thought Leon was still bragging at a time like this and believed he had lost his mind.
Caitlin smiled and said, "Leon, stop joking around. Why don't we try starting a small business? If we work hard, we can still live happily."
Caitlin was quick to act. Once she made up her mind, she planned to take Leon to buy some small goods and set up a street stall.
After buying the small goods, she found a spot to set up the stall.
It was on a busy street, and because Caitlin's goods were cheap and she was very attractive, she drew a lot of attention. The goods sold out quickly.
This made Leon smile. As long as Caitlin was happy, that was all that mattered.
But just then, a man walked over, sneering, "Oh my God, am I seeing things? Aren't you Caitlin, the owner of the Sunshine Group? As far as I know, the Sunshine Group is worth billions. Caitlin, are you trying to experience the life of the poor?"
The man was bald and named Ian. He used to be a manager at the Sunshine Group. He was fired by Caitlin for breaking company rules and later joined a rival company. Leon couldn't believe they had run into him here.
"Ian, is this the Caitlin you told me about?" someone asked.
"I remember you said Caitlin was an exceptional woman. Why is she here selling stuff? And even selling stockings?" someone added.
A few of Ian's subordinates started mocking them as well. Ian gestured for them to be quiet, then looked at the goods on the stall with a wicked smile. "Caitlin, your goods seem pretty good. How much for the stockings? I want to buy a pair."
He finished with a lewd smile, and his subordinates laughed in the same sleazy manner.
Caitlin frowned, not expecting to run into the annoying Ian here. "Ian, I think these stockings are too cheap."
"Yeah, I agree," Leon walked over, frowning as well.
Caitlin had been happy, so Leon hadn't wanted to disturb her. But now Ian was causing trouble, and it made Leon angry.
Leon gave Ian a cold look, which made Ian feel a chill run down his spine.
Caitlin, worried that Leon might hit Ian, whispered, "Leon, ignore them. We're still selling stuff."
Leon nodded and said, "Alright, but he's really annoying. Get lost, or else."
After Leon spoke, Ian looked at him with a strange expression and sneered. "If I'm not mistaken, you must be Caitlin's husband, right? I heard you're a loser who lives off Caitlin. Now that Caitlin has given the company away, you still make her earn money to support you? How shameless can you be?"
After Ian finished, the crowd burst into laughter.
One of Ian's subordinates looked Leon up and down and said, "Ian, he looks pretty average. How could Caitlin like a guy like him? What do you think of me?"
The laughter grew louder. Everyone thought Leon was shameless but also envied him for having such a beautiful wife.
Caitlin said, "I'm selling stuff because I'm in a tough spot. Please don't cause trouble, okay?"
Caitlin just wanted to sell her goods peacefully, so she chose to endure.
But after Caitlin spoke, Ian became even more smug. "Alright, Caitlin, since you put it that way. As your former subordinate, I should help you out. I'll buy all these stockings. Also, I happen to need a secretary. The salary is $5,000 a month. I hope you'll consider it. But my secretary needs to take good care of me, if you know what I mean."
