Chapter 46: The Glass Room
Chapter 46: The Glass Room
The corridor felt freezing cold as Vanya walked through it. Even though all the windows were tightly shut, she could feel a strange breeze brushing against her skin, coming from who knows where. Elijah walked ahead of her, occasionally looking back to make sure she was still behind him. Truth be told, although he didn’t particularly like her, his promise to Damian outweighed his hatred.
At first, Vanya and Elijah had assumed they were being led into a dark underground dungeon. But they weren't. Instead, they were brought into a luxurious room with a bed and a sofa at the center, resembling a chamber fit for a king.
Vanya stared at Pablo, who wore the same meaningful smile as before. She couldn't fathom what this terrifying man was planning. Where was Damian? Why had they been brought to this empty bedroom?
“What kind of game is this?” Elijah asked coldly.
“Just wait. The show hasn't started yet,” Pablo said. He paced around the room as if measuring its dimensions. “Take a good look at this room. There's nothing here, right? I'm not hiding any weapons, guards, or anything else. The only things in here are cameras. I want you both to remember that carefully.”
Pablo then stepped back outside, leaving Vanya and Elijah even more bewildered. Even so, they had no choice but to follow his lead.
Pablo walked over to the door right next to the room. Inside, the atmosphere was completely different. This space resembled a warehouse more than a bedroom—devoid of any furniture except for a single table and chairs. What left Vanya and Elijah utterly astonished was one of the walls: it was made entirely of glass. It wasn't a mirror but transparent glass that let them see clearly into the adjacent room—the luxurious chamber they had entered moments ago.
“Why is it like this?” Vanya hissed in confusion. She was certain that when they were standing inside that luxurious room, she hadn't seen a glass wall. Why was it visible only from this side? And more importantly, what was the purpose of it?
“Please, take a seat,” Pablo offered, gesturing toward the chairs.
Elijah and Vanya sat down, looking like spectators waiting for a show to begin. And sure enough, moments later, Pablo signaled to his men. They escorted someone into the luxurious bedroom.
Damian.
Vanya and Elijah stood up instinctively at the sight of him. But the guards immediately aimed their rifles at them, forcing them to freeze in place.
“Just watch first...” Pablo said in a remarkably relaxed tone. “This is going to get interesting.”
From where they sat, they could see Damian looking utterly disoriented. The guards left him alone in the room, making him believe he was unobserved. Damian looked frustrated and exhausted, his eyes carrying a deep sorrow and vulnerability. Vanya could only clench her fists and bite her lip, her eyes welling up with tears as she took in his condition. The man who usually appeared so arrogant and proud now looked completely frail and helpless.
“What did you do to him?” Vanya asked, her voice trembling.
“Nothing at all. I’ve treated him like an honored guest,” Pablo replied smoothly. “I even gave him some company.”
Elijah and Vanya whipped their heads toward him. Company?
Suddenly, the door to the bedroom opened again. This time, the guards brought three women in all at once. The appearance of these three women made Vanya’s and Elijah’s eyes widen in shock.
Isabelle, Adele, and Katarina. Vanya was certain these were the three missing women. Although they looked unkempt and disheveled, Vanya could still recognize their faces.
At first, the three women looked terrified, but the moment they saw Damian, they rushed toward him as if longing to embrace him.
“My love...”
“My heart...”
“My soul...”
Damian, on the other hand, was terrified of them. He tried to pull back and break free, but the three women relentlessly reached out, attempting to touch and hold him.
“Stop it! Get off me! You’ve all lost your minds!” Damian barked.
Vanya gripped Elijah’s arm anxiously, terrified and confused by the scene unfolding before them.
“Pablo, what is the meaning of this?!” Elijah shouted in anger.
Pablo laughed, a booming laugh, as if he had already won the battle.
“Just as you can see. The three women you were looking for are still alive, aren't they? They're perfectly fine. Just a little bit... obsessed with your man there.”
“What did you do to them?” Vanya hissed.
“I told you, Damian is the ultimate tool for this experiment. Over time, I introduced these three women to him separately, at different intervals. Isabelle, Adele, and Katarina. Women who were desperate in life, making them easy to manipulate through affection and illusory happiness. Just as I planned, all three fell deeply in love with Damian. Without Damian even realizing it, they came to worship him, completely unable to live without him,” Pablo explained.
“When I took one of them away, they went mad from being separated from Damian. That was when I knew my experiment was a success. Their minds contain nothing but Damian, Damian, and Damian...”
“Why are you doing this?!” Vanya demanded furiously.
“This was your father’s experiment, Vanya. I’m merely continuing what he started. Through this research, we can discover how to make someone obsessional and uncover their ultimate weaknesses. Conversely, we can also build a machine that facilitates all of this, like Damian, for instance.”
“You’re insane!”
“Your father was the insane one, Vanya, not me! I’m just the man who saw a golden opportunity in this project.”
Vanya and Elijah turned their eyes back to Damian in the glass room. Damian was completely pinned down now. The three women were growing wilder and more feral, pinning him to the bed and trying to kiss him relentlessly.
“Stop it... Let him go...” Vanya pleaded, unable to bear the sight.
“Why, Vanya? Can’t stand to see those three women suffer... or are you jealous seeing Damian with them?”
Vanya could no longer hold back her tears.
“Stop it... Just stop it...” She couldn't take it anymore. Shoving past the guard standing nearby, she bolted out of the room. Elijah followed closely behind, striking a guard who tried to block their path.
Pablo scoffed. He barked orders to the remaining men to pursue and secure Elijah and Vanya. “Don't let them get anywhere near that room.”
