Chapter 197 Gerald's Probe
Chapter 197 Gerald's Probe
Lawrence let Hazel help him up and settle him into the wheelchair. She pushed him out of the study and down the stairs.
Downstairs, the housekeeper had already set the table with their favorite dishes.
Once the housekeeper finished tidying up, she left them alone.
After dinner, Lawrence got a call from Stuart.
He answered it right in front of Hazel.
Stuart's voice came through the line, "Mr. Johnson, Susan took the bait. This afternoon, after you left, she went to your office and opened the safe."
Lawrence's face stayed calm. "Which document is missing?"
Stuart replied, "The one about the overseas expansion. Just like you thought, she moved fast."
"Good. I altered the data in that document. Check if Susan has already sent it overseas, and keep an eye on her movements."
With that, Lawrence hung up the phone.
Hazel had been quietly listening.
Once Lawrence ended the call, she asked, "Did Susan act so quickly? Is the missing document the one she took earlier today?"
"No," Lawrence shook his head. "She stole a different document. But I changed some data in it. If she sends it overseas, Robert will be in trouble soon."
After all, Lawrence had set this trap specifically for the Knight family's overseas assets.
He had set the trap long ago, just waiting for the Knight family to fall into it.
"What if Susan doesn't send it?" Hazel asked, thinking of another possibility.
Lawrence raised an eyebrow.
"She will. Robert is already struggling. Why else do you think Susan acted so quickly?"
Hazel saw the calculation in his expression.
It was clear this was a closed trap, and no matter what Susan did, she was bound to fall into it.
She also realized that the Knight family's crisis was likely orchestrated by Lawrence.
"And the Johnson family?" Hazel's heart ached as she thought of the evidence she had seen in the study.
"One step at a time. First, we deal with the Knight family. Everyone involved in my parents' murder will pay," Lawrence said, knowing what Hazel wanted to ask.
"Alright," Hazel agreed. "But I think you should give them a signal now."
Lawrence looked at her, "What do you mean?"
Hazel's gaze shifted to his legs. "You could let it be known that your legs are improving. If Gerald and the others find out, they'll likely make a move, and we can strike back."
Lawrence saw the sense in her suggestion. "Alright, I'll have someone spread the word."
After resting at home for two days, it was Monday again.
Early in the morning, Hazel and Lawrence left Emerald Heights Estate.
As usual, Jason drove Hazel to her company, while Lawrence headed to the Johnson Group.
The incident at RH Aromatics, where someone caused a scene, had been recorded and posted online.
The police had clarified the situation, which brought more attention to RH Aromatics' new products.
Thanks to RH Aromatics' unique anti-counterfeiting features, more people were becoming fans of their products.
"Ms. Anderson, our sales have increased significantly. Here are last week's figures," Nyla said, handing Hazel the data.
Hazel reviewed the numbers and saw a substantial increase.
The lab team, led by Glenn, must be feeling the pressure, as demand was outstripping supply.
It seemed expanding the factory was the best option.
"Any news from the Anderson Group?" Hazel asked.
Nyla's eyes lit up with interest.
"Yes, Ms. Anderson. I heard the tax authorities visited the Anderson Group today, and the executives are terrified."
Hazel smiled. "Their tax evasion is a fact. It won't take long to uncover it. The Anderson Group's days are numbered."
If their tax issues were exposed, the Anderson Group would be on the brink of collapse, and Hazel could easily take over.
Nyla nodded in agreement, her expression showing satisfaction.
"The Anderson Group has always caused us trouble. Now they're getting what they deserve!"
Hazel's mood lifted. "Alright, get back to work. This month's company bonus will be doubled. Spread the word."
Nyla's face lit up with a smile. "Thank you, Ms. Anderson! You're the best!"
Working at RH Aromatics was the best decision she had ever made.
The bosses were not only beautiful but also generous.
As Nyla bounced out of the office like a happy rabbit, Hazel couldn't help but laugh.
The youth was really full of energy and passion.
With her tasks mostly settled, Hazel wondered how Lawrence was doing.
Since Lawrence had spread the word about his legs showing signs of improvement, Jeremy had called her several times, urging them to return and have the doctors at the Johnson Mansion examine Lawrence.
But Lawrence had refused each time.
Since Lawrence had declined, Hazel pretended not to hear the requests.
Jeremy couldn't force her to do anything.
With her work nearly done for the day, Hazel called Lawrence, planning to visit the Johnson Group.
Lawrence readily agreed.
Half an hour later, Hazel arrived at the Johnson Group.
As she entered the lobby, she ran into Gerald.
He looked surprised to see her, but walked over.
"Hazel, what brings you here?"
Hazel stopped and smiled at Gerald. "I'm here to see Lawrence. I didn't expect to run into you. What a coincidence."
Gerald smiled slightly. "I heard rumors that you and Lawrence were having a silent treatment. I thought something was wrong between you two. But it seems your relationship is strong."
Hazel inwardly scoffed.
He was testing her.
