Chapter 190 The Truth Revealed

Chapter 190 The Truth Revealed

Lawrence felt a wave of shock wash over him.

He never expected that Gerald was the one who started the fire all those years ago.

"Why did he set the fire?"

"To cover up his crimes, of course, Mr. Johnson. I know you're here today to find out the truth about your parents' deaths. Let me be clear: your parents didn't die in a car accident. They were fed hallucinogenic drugs for years, which led to the crash!"

Garth's words grew more intense, hitting Lawrence like a thunderclap.

"What did you say? Hallucinogenic drugs?"

Lawrence's voice rose several octaves. He had suspected foul play with the car or poisoning, but never this.

Garth let out a mocking laugh. "Mr. Johnson, didn't you notice anything odd about your parents? Gerald often came to the hospital to get Dr. Campbell to prescribe him psychiatric drugs. You know these drugs are regulated. Dr. Campbell was suspicious, but Gerald paid him a lot of money and made up a story about a family member needing the medication discreetly. He came several times."

"One time, Dr. Campbell caught him slipping up and realized he was lying. Dr. Campbell overheard him on the phone saying he needed to increase Terry's dosage. You know who Terry is, right, Mr. Johnson?"

Lawrence knew it.

His father, Terrence Johnson, was often called Terry by the family.

"Once Gerald realized he was caught, he threatened Dr. Campbell to keep quiet or he'd harm his family. Luckily, Dr. Campbell was smart. He set a trap, got Gerald to admit to drugging your parents, and recorded it. He saved the dates, drug names, and payment evidence, hiding them in a gift box and asked me to deliver it to his hometown."

"After I delivered the box, news broke about your parents' car accident. Dr. Campbell knew something was wrong and told me to leave Elysium Psychiatric Hospital. I didn't want to leave, but when I returned, the hospital was on fire. It was then Dr. Campbell told me what was hidden in that gift box."

Garth seemed to deflate, looking older and more worn out.

The room was silent. Lawrence suppressed his anger and turmoil, maintaining a calm exterior.

"Why didn't Dr. Campbell run?"

Garth gave a bitter smile. "He feared that if he ran, his family would be targeted. Only his death would convince Gerald that no one else knew the truth. Mr. Johnson, I've kept this secret for years. Dr. Campbell told me everything before he died. Now I've told you. Is there anything else you want to know?"

"Give me Dr. Campbell's hometown address."

Lawrence emerged from the room half an hour later.

"Jason, get some protection for Garth. Where's Manuel?"

"Right here, Mr. Johnson."

Manuel, who had been lounging on the couch, quickly stood up and approached Lawrence. "Mr. Johnson, did you find out what you needed?"

Seeing his eager eyes, Lawrence couldn't help but think of a dog looking for a treat from its owner. Though the comparison wasn't quite fitting.

"Yeah, you did good. If you have any requests, feel free to ask."

Lawrence acknowledged Manuel's efforts. He had underestimated him, thinking he wouldn't bounce back quickly after years of madness.

"Mr. Johnson, you mentioned investing in a lab for me. Is that still on the table?"

Manuel scratched his head, asking hesitantly.

Lawrence nodded. "I keep my word. It's still valid. Anything else you need?"

Manuel's eyes widened. "I can ask for more?"

Jason was speechless.

He realized Manuel might not be the sharpest tool in the shed.

"Mr. Johnson asked you to make requests, so do it. Mr. Johnson doesn't like owing favors."

Jason explained, and Manuel quickly understood.

Lawrence, wealthy and powerful, disliked owing favors and being blackmailed later.

Manuel wouldn't dare blackmail Lawrence, so he made his request.

After a while, Jason drove Lawrence away from the villa, leaving other bodyguards behind.

On the way back to the office, Lawrence spoke from the back seat.

"Jason, I'll give you an address. Go there personally and retrieve what I need."

His voice was serious. Jason nodded. "Yes, Mr. Johnson."

Meanwhile, Hazel was anxious since learning Lawrence went to see the now-clear-headed Garth.

If Garth could reveal the truth from back then, it would be invaluable.

Suddenly, Nyla rushed in, looking panicked. "Ms. Anderson, there's trouble outside!"

Hazel was startled. "What's going on?"

"Two middle-aged women brought reporters to the company, claiming they had allergic reactions to our perfume and demanding compensation. It's drawing a crowd."

Nyla's eyes were full of worry.

The company's new product had only been out for two days, and now there were complaints of allergies causing a scene.

Since RH Aromatics was founded, this was the first time such a thing happened.

Hazel's eyes turned cold. "What? Allergic reactions? I'll handle it."

Kelly entered the office at that moment, echoing Nyla's concern.

"Hazel, there are people causing trouble downstairs. Should we call the police?"

Kelly's eyes showed anger. RH Aromatics' products had never had issues before.

Now, suddenly, there were problems. It seemed too coincidental.
