Chapter 185 A Couple Should Support Each Other

Chapter 185 A Couple Should Support Each Other

The living room was now just Hazel and Lawrence.

After hearing her question, Lawrence spoke slowly, "We deliberately fell into their trap so we could turn the tables on them."

Hazel was momentarily stunned but quickly understood.

"You want to keep up the act, make Susan think she can steal the Johnson Group's confidential files without a hitch. But what about Eddy? Won't he tell Susan that we already know about this?"

Hesitating, Hazel voiced her concern.

Lawrence shook his head, "He won't, unless he wants something to happen to his brother."

Hazel fell silent.

Right.

It was clear that Eddy cared about his brother. If he was smart, he'd know what to do.

Lawrence had thought this through more thoroughly.

"Stuart's team should have updated you on the progress of acquiring the Anderson Group today, right?"

Shifting the topic away from Eddy and Susan, Lawrence asked about the acquisition.

Hazel nodded, "They did, but Russell and his people are unwilling."

Russell and his team had worked hard to climb to their current positions after Keith left. They weren't about to hand over their newly gained power.

Even though the Anderson Group was in its current state, for Russell and his team, staying in their own company and wielding power was better than being acquired.

Otherwise, Russell and Claire wouldn't have had her 'invited' to the hotel a few days ago.

Lawrence listened calmly.

"Don't worry, they're just putting up a front. Eventually, they'll realize that being acquired is the best outcome for them."

Lawrence's few words eased much of Hazel's doubts.

"You're right."

With Lawrence around, it felt like nothing could go wrong.

After dinner, Hazel put the empty bowls in the dishwasher. With Nellie and Kaila away, Emerald Heights Estate was unusually quiet.

Besides Jason, there was no one else at home. Lawrence had even temporarily abandoned his wheelchair to work out in the upstairs gym.

Hazel admired Lawrence's discipline.

It was no easy task to manage the vast Johnson Group and keep potential troublemakers at bay. Only during these rare moments of free time could he work out.

After feeding the alligators in the yard, Jason came inside. Hazel gave him a few instructions before heading upstairs.

She called Glenn to check on the lab and then went to the bathroom.

When she came out of the shower, she heard Lawrence talking on the balcony.

Curious, she dried her wet hair as she walked towards the balcony.

"Is he awake? Ask him what really happened at Elysium Psychiatric Hospital. I need to know the whole truth! On and off? Then tell Manuel to speed things up!"

Through the glass door, Hazel couldn't hear clearly, but she did catch 'Elysium Psychiatric Hospital.'

That place sounded familiar.

Why was Lawrence talking about it?

Before she could think further, Lawrence hung up and came inside. Seeing her standing there with wet hair, his eyes darkened for a moment.

Hazel must have heard something.

"Why aren't you drying your hair?"

Lawrence's question snapped Hazel back to reality.

She had been caught eavesdropping!

Feeling a bit embarrassed, but seeing that Lawrence didn't call her out, she played it cool, "It's too long, I'm too lazy. Can you help me?"

Hazel's voice was soft, her eyes mischievous.

Like a charming fox.

Lawrence chuckled, agreeing in a good mood, "Sure."

He had Hazel sit at the vanity and started drying her hair.

Though he was a bit clumsy at first, Lawrence had gotten quite good at it over time.

After about ten minutes, he turned off the hairdryer and looked at Hazel through the mirror, "What did you hear just now?"

Hazel was taken aback.

She hadn't expected him to ask.

Turning to face him, Hazel looked up, "I heard you mention Elysium Psychiatric Hospital."

She didn't hide it, looking at Lawrence openly.

Lawrence raised an eyebrow, "You don't seem surprised. Do you know about it?"

Hazel nodded, "Yeah, I went there as a kid, but just to play nearby, not inside."

The last part sounded like Hazel was explaining herself, worried someone might think she was a patient.

Lawrence was surprised to learn Hazel had been there as a child.

"Honey, why are you investigating that place? Is something wrong?"

Seeing Lawrence's expression, Hazel asked tentatively.

"We're married. I hope I can help you sometimes."

She added after a pause.

The room fell silent. Hazel felt uneasy. Seeing Lawrence not speaking, she bit her lip.

"If you don't want to talk about it, that's fine."

It was clear she was feeling hurt.

Lawrence sighed softly, "It's not that I don't want to tell you. I just..."

He rarely hesitated.

Hazel seized the moment, "Just what?"

Sitting across from her, Lawrence thought for a moment before speaking, "I'm investigating that psychiatric hospital because it's connected to my parents' deaths. I didn't tell you before because I didn't have all the evidence."

Hazel was shocked.

Elysium Psychiatric Hospital was connected to Lawrence's parents' deaths?

What had happened?

After a moment of silence, Hazel asked, "Can you tell me about it?"

She looked worried.

Hazel knew Lawrence had carried a lot over the years, with both resilience and responsibility.

He had been like a lone wolf, but now she was his wife. They should support each other.

She wanted to be there for him.

Seeing the concern in Hazel's eyes, Lawrence gently pinched her cheek, "Louis told me that after my parents died in a car accident, Elysium Psychiatric Hospital caught fire shortly after. Almost everyone inside was burned to death."
