Chapter 92 Chapter 92
CHAPTER NINETY-TWO
Dimitri
I stared at my phone in shock. The guard’s voice was still echoing in my ears.
Alexei was awake.
My twin brother who had been in a coma for weeks. The man whose existence had put Irina in danger in the twisted way possible.
The brother I had fought with and hated.
Was finally conscious.
I hung up the phone without saying anything.
"Not now," I cursed under my breath. "Not now when Irina and I are finally getting along."
Everything had just started to feel stable.
Irina was recovering and our son was getting stronger.
And now he had to fucking wake up.
Sometimes, I had secretly wished he would never open his eyes again.
I looked at Irina and saw the fear in her eyes.
My heart broke seeing her like that.
She tried to stop me, but I had to go.
I drove back to the estate as fast as I could.
My mind was racing the entire way. The city lights blurred into streaks. I broke every speed limit.
What would I say to Alexei? Welcome back? Sorry your life is in ruins? Stay away from my wife? To his son? The questions were like a swarm of bees in my head.
How would he react to everything?
When I arrived, the scene was chaotic. Guards and doctors were standing outside Alexei's room.
They all looked nervous and scared.
The head doctor ran up to me immediately. "Boss," he said frantically, wiping sweat from his brow. "You have to help us. We cannot control him."
"What is happening?" I demanded.
"Sir Alexei has gotten out of hand," the doctor explained breathlessly. “He woke up disoriented, then enraged. He ripped out his IV lines. He will not let us examine him.”
I looked through the window of the room. Inside I could see chaos.
Furniture was overturned and medical equipment was scattered everywhere.
"What did he do?" I asked.
"He woke up screaming," the doctor said. "He started throwing things."
"He chased all of us out," another doctor added. "He said he would kill anyone who came near him."
"What does he want?" I asked.
"He keeps screaming to see Irina," the doctor replied. "And he says he will kill whoever poisoned him."
I took a deep breath.
This was going to be difficult.
"Stay here," I ordered the doctors and guards.
Then I opened the door and walked in.
Immediately something flew at my head. I ducked just in time.
A medical tray crashed against the wall behind me.
"Get out!" Alexei screamed. "I said get out!"
"Alexei," I said calmly. "It is me."
He looked at me and his eyes went wide.
"You," he said with pure hatred. "You took her from me."
"Took who?" I asked though I already knew.
"Irina!" Alexei shouted. "You took Irina away from me!"
He grabbed another object and threw it at me.
I dodged it easily.
"You married her!" Alexei continued screaming. "She was mine!"
"Calm down," I said firmly, taking another step closer. “You are sick. You have been asleep for weeks. You need to…”
"Calm down?" Alexei repeated, a hysterical laugh breaking through his rage. "You tell me to calm down? My woman is gone, my brother is a traitor, and someone tried to murder me! You tell me to CALM DOWN?!”
"Your woman?" I growled, my own anger rising. "She was never yours. You kidnapped her. You terrorized her. You are being ungrateful and senseless." I took another step. "You are alive because of the doctors here. Because of the family you are screaming at!" I added coldly.
"I did not send for you!" Alexei shouted back. “Get out! I want Irina! Bring her to me!”
My rage exploded.
“I should have let the poison kill you." I said coldly. “And because of you I almost killed Mikhail!" I roared.
That made Alexei stop.
His face went pale.
"What?" He whispered.
"Mikhail," I repeated. "I shot him because I thought he poisoned you."
"But he did not," I continued. "Marina did. And you know why she did it?" I asked. "Because you kidnapped her son."
Alexei sank down onto the bed. All the fight seemed to drain out of him.
"Mikhail," he said quietly. "Is he..."
"He is alive," I replied. "But he almost died."
Alexei put his head in his hands.
We stood in silence for a moment.
"I will take you to see Irina," I finally said.
Alexei looked up immediately.
"And she gave birth," I added. "To a boy."
Alexei's eyes went wide with shock.
"A boy?" He repeated. "I am a father?"
"Yes," I confirmed.
"I want to see them," Alexei said standing up. "Now."
"Get dressed first," I ordered.
I called a guard and told him to bring clothes.
Alexei changed quickly.
I knew what I was doing was risky. Alexei was still unpredictable. He could threaten to take Irina and the baby away.
But I would have to trust Irina to handle it.
We drove to the hospital in tense silence.
Alexei kept staring out the window.
"Where is she?" He finally asked.
"In her room," I replied. "Recovering from surgery."
"Surgery?" Alexei asked worried.
"The baby was born premature," I explained. "They had to do an emergency delivery."
Alexei was quiet again.
When we arrived at the hospital I led him to Irina's room.
My heart was pounding.
I did not know how this was going to go.
I let Alexei go in front. He opened the door.
Irina and Mikhail both looked up.
Irina's face went pale when she saw Alexei.
Mikhail stood up slowly.
"What is going on?" Irina finally after much silence. And she was looking at me.
I could not find the words.
Alexei stepped forward.
"I want to see my son," he said coldly.
Rage rose in my chest. I almost snapped his neck from behind.
Selfish bastard!
I was the fool for being nice. I thought he had the right to see his son. Since it's his blood running throw his veins.
But I wrong, Alexei was just an animal without sympathy.
Irina's expression changed immediately from fear to anger.
"Over my dead body," she said firmly. And I was shocked ."You will not see my baby."
"Our baby," Alexei corrected.
"No," Irina said. "The baby is Dimitri's."
Alexei started screaming.
"That is my child!" He yelled. "Mine!"
"You gave up that right!" Irina shouted back. "When you kidnapped me!"
She fought back her tears.
"When you terrorized me for months!" She continued.
Alexei opened his mouth, but before he could speak, Mikhail did something unexpected.
He walked over and slapped Alexei hard across the face. The impact made his head snapped backwards. Blood and saliva flew out of his mouth.
The sound echoed in the room.
Everyone froze.
"You ungrateful child," Mikhail said coldly. "After everything, you think you have rights?" Mikhail continued. "You have no rights."
"You nearly got everyone killed," Mikhail added. "Including yourself."
Alexei held his cheek looking shocked.
I stepped
forward before things got worse.
"Irina is my wife," I said clearly. "Therefore the baby is mine."
I looked at Alexei directly.
"I will adopt the baby," I continued, shocking everyone including myself
This wasn't planned, I could swear on my life.
"He will bear my name." I continued,my voice calm but cold. "Nikolai Dimitri Volkov," I said firmly. “That's my son's name.”
