Chapter 67 Chapter 67
CHAPTER SIXTY-SEVEN
Irina's POV
I was scared and terrified. My whole body trembled with fear.
But I had to enter the car. I had no choice. Not if I wanted Dimitri to stay safe.
I climbed into the passenger seat slowly. My legs felt weak beneath me.
Alexei got into the driver's seat. He started the engine immediately.
The car roared to life. We began moving down the long driveway away from the estate.
"Mikhail would never forgive you this time," I said quietly.
My voice was shaky. I tried to sound brave but I failed.
Alexei laughed. "I do not need his forgiveness."
"Where are you taking me?" I asked. Fear made my voice barely more than a whisper.
"We are disappearing," Alexei said simply. "Far away where no one will find us."
"That is impossible," I said. "You cannot abandon who you are as a mafia all because of me."
Alexei glanced at me. His smile was cold and cruel.
"Of course not," he replied. "You are not worth abandoning everything for."
His words stung even though I knew they were true.
"I am still a Mafia," he continued. "My second in command will take over for now."
"You have it all planned out," I whispered bitterly.
"I always do, baby girl," he said.
The car moved faster. We were leaving the estate grounds now. Heading towards the main road. Towards my new prison.
I looked back through the rear window. The estate was disappearing behind us.
My last hope was fading. No one was coming to save me.
Just as the thought crossed my mind, a car suddenly came from the other side of the road.
It was moving fast. Very fast. Heading straight towards us.
Alexei cursed and hit the brakes hard and our car screeched to a stop.
The sudden stop made me jerk forward violently.
My body flew towards the dashboard. I tried to brace myself but could not. My head hit the dashboard with a sickening thud.
Pain exploded in my forehead. Stars burst behind my eyes.
I groaned and touched my head. My fingers came away with blood.
"Stay here," Alexei ordered. His voice was tense now. I could see the worry in his eyes.
I wondered who it was.
Was it Dmitri? Had he come to save me once again.
Alexei reached under his seat and pulled out a gun.
I looked through the windshield. The other car had stopped right in front of us.
The doors opened and men stepped out. Big and dangerous looking men.
They were guards dressed in black. Carrying dangerous weapons. This men looked like walls. Alexei was no match for them even if he had an army.
And then my eyes caught him.
Mikhail.
He stepped out of the car slowly. His expression was cold and deadly.
He was carrying something in one hand. Something that looked like a dead body.
And in his other hand, he held a gun.
My breath caught in my throat. What was happening?
"Come out here you bastard!" Mikhail growled.
His voice was not pleasant. It was dangerous and terrifying.
It was the most dangerous sound I had ever heard from him.
Alexei froze. His hand tightened on the steering wheel.
He was staring at what Mikhail was carrying. His face had gone pale.
Slowly, and reluctantly, Alexei opened his door and stepped out.
I stayed in the car. I was too scared to move. Too shocked to even think.
Mikhail walked forward. His giant guards followed behind him.
They were the same guards that came with him to Alexei’s afe house months ago. They looked even more intimidating now.
When Mikhail reached Alexei, he dropped the body at his feet.
The sound it made hitting the ground was horrible.
I could see it clearly now through the windshield.
It was a man. Laying lifeless.
His neck was slit. Blood covered his throat and chest.
His limbs were twisted at unnatural angles. Broken in multiple places.
The sight was gory and disturbing. I felt bile rise in my throat.
"This is your second in command," Mikhail said calmly. "Dead."
Alexei stared down at the body. His face showed shock and horror.
"You thought you could mess with me," Mikhail continued.
"You killed him," Alexei whispered. "You killed Fred"
"And I will kill you too if you do not cooperate," Mikhail said coldly.
Alexei suddenly started laughing. It was a mad sound. Unhinged and desperate.
"If you take Irina from me, Dimitri will die!" He shouted.
His laughter stopped abruptly. His face became serious and threatening.
"And you will never find his body!" He added. "Never!"
I froze. What will Mikhail do?
But Mikhail laughed. But his laugh was different. It was mocking and cruel.
"You are still a child, Alexei," Mikhail said. "You think I do not know you?"
He stepped closer. His presence was intimidating and powerful. "I know you too damn well son," Mikhail continued. "I know exactly how you think. Have you forgotten I raised and trained you?" He smiled.
"I already have a team sent to rescue Dimitri," Mikhail revealed.
Relief flooded through me immediately. My whole body sagged with it.
They were going to save Dimitri.
Tears started falling from my eyes. I was too excited.
For the first time, Alexei looked defeated.
His face crumbled. His shoulders slumped. Confidence drained from him.
"You hate me!" He screamed suddenly. "You have always hated me!"
His voice was filled with pain and rage.
"You always preferred Dimitri to me!" He continued shouting. "Always! Since we were children! You gave him everything! Love! Praise! Attention!" Alexei's voice broke. "And what did you give me? Nothing! Nothing but criticism and disappointment!"
Mikhail did not even reply. His expression remained cold and unmoved.
He simply raised his hand and gestured to his guards.
"Bind him," Mikhail ordered. "Put him in the booth of the car."
The guards moved forward immediately. They grabbed Alexei roughly.
Alexei struggled. He fought against them. But there were too many. They overpowered him easily. Binding his hands behind his back with thick rope.
They dragged him to Mikhail's car, opened the trunk and threw him inside.
Alexei screamed and cursed. But the trunk was closed. His voice became muffled.
Mikhail walked over to me. He opened the passenger door gently.
"Are you hurt?" He asked. His voice was softer now.
I touched my forehead. It was still bleeding but not badly.
"I am okay," I whispered.
"Good," Mikhail said. "You are safe now. We will get you back to the estate."
"What about Dimitri?" I asked desperately. "Where is he?"
"My men are bringing him home as we speak," Mikhail assured me.
He looked back at his car. At the trunk where Alexei was trapped and his expression hardened again. He faced his guards and his voice became dangerously low.
"Make him go through ten times what he made Dimitri go through.”
