Liam ran really fast. Carolyn was worried that he might fall, so she quickly said, "Be careful, don't fall."
Liam slowed his pace and smiled sweetly at Carolyn, saying, "Mrs. Hastings, Liam is fine."
"Come here and let me touch your head to see if you still have a fever," Carolyn reached out and felt Liam's forehead, smiling as she said, "It seems like you're healthy."
Liam raised his innocent little face and smiled beautifully, saying, "Uncle Victor took care of me all night."
"Yes, Victor did a good job this time," Carolyn kindly praised Victor and slowly pulled out a chair to lift Liam onto it. "Come, let's have breakfast."
"Thank you, Mrs. Hastings," Liam obediently picked up his fork and ate earnestly.
Seeing that he was fine, Carolyn finally relaxed her nervous heart.
After breakfast, Victor went to the company.
When Victor left, Liam tugged at Carolyn's sleeve and asked, "Mrs. Hastings, can we go out and play?"
"Of course, Liam. Where would you like to go?" Carolyn readily agreed.
Liam said, "I want to go to Uncle Victor's company. I want to see what he does."
"I haven't been to his company in a long time either. Let me take you to see your mommy first, and when we come back, I'll take you to his company, how does that sound?" Carolyn tentatively asked.
Liam shook his head and said, "No, I just finished a video call with my mommy. She's on a business trip and won't be back for a couple of days."
"She's on a business trip again..." Carolyn frowned, unable to understand why Liam's mother could leave him alone at home without any worries.
Liam drooped his head disappointedly and said pitifully, "Yeah, ever since Daddy passed away, mommy has been working three jobs and doesn't have time to play with me."
"That's so sad." Carolyn teared up, softly comforting Liam and instructing Sam to prepare the car.
Upon learning that Carolyn was coming to the company, the receptionists were already waiting outside the door, standing in two neat rows and saying in unison, "Good morning, Mrs. Hastings."
Their voices were loud and impressive!
Liam was stunned, looking at Carolyn's figure in admiration, feeling that she had a great presence!
He cautiously followed behind Carolyn and entered the company.
Although Liam was young and not very tall, he was still a person, and he was also someone who got off the car with Carolyn. The reception team outside the door couldn't help but take a few more glances at Liam until they entered the exclusive elevator for the president. Only then did they couldn't help but discuss,
"Who is that kid? Why is he following Mrs. Hastings?"
"I haven't heard that the Hastings family has any children."
"Where did this child come from? Could he be Mr. Hastings's child?"
"Don't talk nonsense. Mr. Hastings isn't married, so it's impossible for him to have a child. This child definitely isn't Mr. Hastings's."
"But why do I feel like they look similar?"
As they whispered, someone couldn't help but take a few more glances at Liam's back. Although he was young, they could see a resemblance in his features with Victor. Could it just be their imagination?
Despite their suspicions, this was ultimately the boss's personal matter, and the subordinates didn't dare to gossip. So when Liam came to the company, it only caused a slight stir at the reception on the first floor, and other departments didn't know about it.
Victor was in a meeting, and there was no one in the office.
David came in with two cups of water and asked, "Mrs. Hastings, are you here to see Mr. Hastings? He's busy and probably won't be able to come out for a while."
Carolyn waved her hand, "I just came to take a look. You don't need to wait on me. You can go back to work."
"It's alright, I have some free time right now."
"I just walked by the secretary department and saw many young and pretty girls. Is there anyone among them who likes Victor?" Carolyn asked directly.
David stiffened, quickly realizing Carolyn's intentions for this visit, and shook his head, "No. The company explicitly prohibits office romances, and the employees in the secretary department have been very professional and haven't crossed any boundaries."
"Out of all these girls, not a single one found him attractive. It would have been so much better if I had a daughter!" Carolyn was getting frustrated with this disappointing Victor.
David wiped the cold sweat from his forehead and felt that Carolyn had a certain misunderstanding about Victor. It wasn't that no one liked Victor among all these girls, but rather that no one Victor liked!
Victor had very high standards for women!
However, of course, David didn't dare to say it out loud. After fetching water for Carolyn and Liam, he couldn't help but take a few more glances at Liam. He felt like he recognized Liam from somewhere and couldn't help but ask, "Mrs. Hastings, who is this child?"
"His name is Liam," Carolyn explained with a smile.
Liam greeted David with an innocent face.
David's brain froze for a moment, and the name "Liam" quickly flashed in his mind. He felt like he had heard this name somewhere before!
David took a few more glances at Liam and suddenly realized who he resembled!
This was the illegitimate child who caused a scene at Victor's engagement party. Wasn't he Jessica's son? Why was he now with Carolyn?
David was stunned. The Hastings family was, after all, the top family in Woerek, and Victor was a business giant who ruled the market with an iron fist. He could have any woman he wanted. However, surely Carolyn wouldn't bring Jessica's illegitimate child home just because she wanted a grandchild, right? Though the child was undeniably cute!
David's face went through a wide range of changes, his expression more complex than if he had just eaten a fly.
Just then, his phone rang. It was a call from the front desk. David frowned and said, "Mrs. Hastings, Jessica is here. Should I let her come up?"
Carolyn's smile suddenly disappeared from her face, and she coldly asked, "Why is she here?"
Her entire demeanor changed.
David was puzzled. Hadn't Carolyn already accepted Jessica's son? Why was she so angry when Jessica was mentioned? He glanced at Liam, baffled.
Liam recognized David from their previous encounter at the engagement ceremony. He pouted and muttered, "Mrs. Hastings, Jessica must have come to see Uncle Victor. Uncle Victor is so old and still hasn't married, so maybe you should let her in?"
"Hmph, The Hastings family hasn't sunk so low as to need Victor to marry a woman like her!" Carolyn stood up dominantly and said to David, "I will go and meet this woman myself."
"Mrs. Hastings, please don't argue with Jessica. She's young, and she might argue fiercely. Besides, she might not give in to you," Liam worriedly tugged at Carolyn's sleeve.
Carolyn's anger only grew when she heard Liam's persuasions. She wasn't at the age to be bullied by Jessica yet!
"David, stay here with Liam. I'll go downstairs myself," Carolyn said with an air of aggression as she walked out of the CEO's office.
David was scared and sweating profusely! Carolyn was terrifying when she got angry, just like Victor. However, why did he feel that something was off?
David's gaze fixed on Liam. Was this little guy instigating trouble just now?
