David noticed that Victor had been acting strangely recently. But what was even stranger was that Victor actually made him, the assistant to the CEO, monitor Sophia in the warehouse!
All the employees knew that Sophia was Paul's woman in the rival company, but Paul had left to another province to escape. Was it really necessary to keep an eye on Sophia?
"Mr. Hastlings, Sophia has been behaving well these past few days and she hasn't done anything to harm the company," David couldn't help but speak up.
Victor gave him a cold stare.
David couldn't refuse Victor's words. He hurriedly said, "I will go and monitor Sophia. Once there is any situation, I will report to you immediately! I swear to catch this bad woman and give you the opportunity to handle her."
"Go ahead." Victor nodded decisively.
David felt speechless.
He thought Victor would at least stop him for a few more words, after all, he was the most capable assistant by the CEO's side. His efficiency was extremely high. It was inappropriate for him to go and monitor a new employee.
However, Victor's resolute attitude made him feel a sense of loss for losing his happiness. He obediently stepped back.
He thought to himself, 'Sophia, I will keep an eye on you. Let Mr. Hastlings teach you a lesson.'
However, after observing for a day, David didn't find anything wrong. In the evening, he was getting ready to leave work when he noticed Zach appearing in their company. Zach was waiting for someone.
Out of politeness, David greeted Zach, "Mr. Carter, you were discharged from the hospital so quickly."
"Well, I have recovered almost completely." Zach smiled and nodded.
David was surprised to see Zach holding a bouquet of flowers. It was a beautiful bouquet of daisies, cute and playful.
David was puzzled, "Mr. Carter, did you buy flowers? Do you have a crush on someone? Why are you here at our company? The employees in this department should all be old."
When did Zach's taste become so unique? David found it strange.
Zach smiled and said, "She is my classmate. She works in this department. Please do not spread this news, okay?"
Zach was worried that his parents would find out. He reminded David in a low voice. He didn't want his family to know until he succeeded with Sophia.
David hadn't expected that. He was a little confused.
Zach was the only son in the family. He would eventually inherit the Carter family's business. He was wealthy. He could choose a girl from a wealthy family. Why did he choose someone who worked in a factory?
"Mr. Carter, can you tell me who the girl you like is? I know everyone in the company. I know their character. If her character is not good, Mr. Hastlings can introduce you to some more outstanding options. Our company lacks everything except beautiful and capable women."
Zach waved his hand and smiled gently, "No need. We have known each other since childhood, and I trust her. I know Uncle Victor's rules in the company, so I will never let it affect his employees during work hours. Don't tell Uncle Victor that the girl I like is in his company, I don't want him to feel pressured."
He just wanted to quietly date and make Sophia change her mind!
Sophia changed her clothes and walked out. Zach immediately approached her, "Sophia, this is for you."
"Why are you here again? And why did you buy such a big bouquet?" Sophia felt a little awkward when she saw the large bouquet.
Zach thought to himself, if he didn't know that Sophia didn't accept expensive gifts, he would have chosen to give her a house or a car.
Zach gently placed the flowers in her hand, "I have already bought them, and you must take them. During lunch, you mentioned that you wanted to buy some gifts for an elderly person. I have already prepared the gifts in the car. Let's go, I'll drive you."
David was completely ignored on the side. He watched the two of them dumbfounded, his jaw almost dropping!
"So, um, do you know each other?" David, who had been sent by Victor to monitor Sophia, finally couldn't hold back and continued to inquire, "Mr. Carter, is the girl you're pursuing her?"
David's facial expressions were quite varied. When he saw Zach nodding, he almost fainted!
David wanted to cry. He and Victor were on high alert. Every day, he watched Sophia's every move. He was afraid that Sophia would make decisions that were not beneficial to the company. After observing for several days, he thought that Sophia had given up. Little did he know that she had started dating Victor's friend’s child!
If Victor found out, he would definitely be angry!
David pulled Zach aside. He was on the verge of tears, "You can pursue anyone. Why did you choose Sophia?"
"I like her, so I pursued her. Is there a problem?" Zach felt that David held animosity towards Sophia. He was somewhat annoyed.
David said, "Yes, there is a problem. Listen to me, find another girl. You absolutely shouldn't pursue her, she is not simple!"
Zach, with a grim look on his face, warned him, "I won't allow you to speak about Sophia like that."
"No, Mr. Carter, I'm doing this for your own good. You must listen to me..." David was cut off before he could finish his sentence. Zach had already walked away. He ran to catch up with Sophia, who had left at some point.
Could David just watch as Victor's friend’s child was taken by Sophia? Without hesitation, he went after them!
When he arrived at the company's entrance, Zach was nowhere to be found, and he didn't see Sophia either. David didn't know where to start looking. He could only go upstairs to report to Victor about their work.
Victor felt David's unnatural face. Victor was sensitive. His sharp gaze fell on David, "What happened?"
"Nothing." David shook his head guiltily, too afraid to tell the truth.
Victor's elegant fingers stopped twirling the pen. He lazily repeated, "Speak."
Just one sentence scared David to the point of weak knees. He realized that Victor had already noticed something. He couldn't hide the matter of Zach any longer. In a small voice, he said, "Just now, Mr. Carter came by."
When Victor heard that it was Zach, his anger diminished a little from his face. He responded indifferently. He elegantly signed his name on the contract with the pen he held and asked, "Why didn't he come to see me?"
"Mr. Carter didn't come here for you." After a pause, David wiped off a cold sweat with great difficulty, "He came to see Sophia."
The black pen fell on the desk. Victor stood up, leaning on the desk with his slender hand. He looked down at David like a king, his voice dangerous, "Who did he come to see?"
"Sophia," David exerted all his strength to say those three simple words. The overwhelming pressure made it difficult for him to catch his breath. "Mr. Hastings, I don't know when they got together. I've reminded Mr. Carter, but he didn't listen to me at all. I just said a few bad things about Sophia, and he got angry. I don't know what to do... Who knew Sophia was so formidable? She seems quiet, but she's secretly with Mr. Carter."
Victor's handsome forehead showed slight veins, but it was impossible to tell what he was thinking.
He silently broke the pen that hadn't been closed yet. Victor smirked, "Very well!"
David's legs trembled in fear. His intuition told him Sophia was in big trouble!
