Sophia was very puzzled. When did she gain so much power?
"Why would you lose your job if I leave?" she asked.
Emily said, "Mr. Hastings was very angry when he found out that I fired you without permission. He even said that if you didn't come back, he would fire me. Sophia, I know I was wrong. I promise I won't bully you anymore. Will you come back with me?"
"Mr. Hastings knows me?" Sophia felt surprised.
Emily shook her head. "I don't know."
Sophia felt puzzled. She suddenly remembered what Jessica had said in the morning and asked, "Mr. Hastings is Jessica's fiancé, right?"
"Yes," Emily nodded. This was something everyone at Woerek knew.
Now Sophia understood. No wonder Jessica was so angry. It seemed she really didn't like her staying at Aadelha Group!
"Alright, I promise you, I'll continue going to work tomorrow, but my workload..." Sophia started to say.
"I will assign three more people to assist you!" Emily interrupted excitedly, placing her hand on her chest as a guarantee. After she left, Sophia closed the bedroom door.
Her phone kept ringing non-stop in the room, with over a dozen missed calls and a few video invitations. They were all from Zach. Annoyed, Sophia deleted the call logs and opened her chat page with Liam.
As soon as the video connected, a pitiful voice of a young boy came from the other end of the line. "Mommy, why did you take so long to answer the phone? I miss you so much."
"I just finished being busy. I'll come pick you up tomorrow, okay?" Sophia asked gently.
Liam twisted his little finger. "No one is keeping Mrs. Hastings company. She's so lonely. Today, when I said her son was useless, she almost hit her son."
"How could you say something like that? It's impolite. You're not allowed to say that anymore." Sophia was shocked by his words and quickly lectured him.
Liam obediently responded, then sadly said, "But I didn't say anything wrong. I heard Mrs. Hastings say that her son is very old and still can't have a son. The doctors say he's sick and he's very cold to people. I think he must be very ill. Mrs. Hastings is really pitiful." After a pause, Liam added, "Mommy, can we find my godfather to treat her son?"
"Um...your godfather is a surgeon!" Sophia said.
Liam blinked innocently. "Can't a surgeon treat him?"
"He needs to find a specialist in male diseases." Sophia's cheeks slightly flushed.
Liam became more confused. "Aren't a specialist in male diseases and surgeons the same?"
"Liam, be good. Don't ask so many questions. I'll come get you tomorrow." Sophia spoke softly.
Reluctantly, Liam hugged his pillow and nodded obediently. "Okay, then I'll wait for you."
Sophia smiled and ended the video. She took a shower and prepared to sleep. However, a phone call from Taylor instantly took away her sleepiness. Taylor basically berated Sophia for being ungrateful and shameless, accusing her of ruining Jessica's future and bullying her. Taylor told Sophia to hurry up and die.
Sophia immediately hung up the phone. She wouldn't leave until she found Liam's biological father.
Taylor turned green with anger, unable to vent her fury. She angrily spoke to the nearby Jessica, who looked wronged. "You're right. Sophia is an ungrateful bitch. If I knew she would be like this, I should have let her die outside!"
"Mom, she's now working at Victor's company, and she's investigating what happened six years ago. What will I do if she finds out?" Jessica anxiously grabbed Taylor's hand, filled with unprecedented fear.
"Mrs. Hastings has never liked me. If she finds out that Liam is her grandson, she will definitely take him back home. She might even make Victor marry Sophia. What will I do then? I'll become a laughingstock of Woerek. I might as well die."
Taylor felt sorry and pulled Jessica into her arms, comforting her in a low voice. "Don't be afraid. I won't let that happen to you. I'll go find Sophia tomorrow. I saved her. Her life is mine. I won't let her hinder you."
With Taylor's assurance, Jessica finally showed a satisfied smile.
After resting for a night, Sophia went to the company early the next day. Emily was very happy. She even called back several employees who were responsible for inventory clearance to help Sophia with her work.
Sophia was relatively relaxed. She was busy all morning. During the lunch break, Sophia intended to go home, but her phone rang.
It was Taylor's call. She directly commanded, "I'm waiting for you at the entrance of your company. Come out."
Sophia clenched her phone, recalling what Taylor had said to her six years ago. She couldn't help but sneer, "There's no need for me to meet you."
"If you don't come out, then I'll come in and find you. Don't blame me if your colleagues hear about your past." Taylor threatened, intentionally hinting at what happened six years ago.
For a girl, reputation was the most important thing.
Sophia's slender fingers turned slightly pale. A distressed look appeared on her stunning face. She gritted her teeth. "Fine!"
They met at a restaurant next to Aadelha Group. Taylor, dressed in designer clothes, was wearing oversized sunglasses and hat, covering most of her face. She seemed hesitant to be recognized.
Upon seeing Sophia, Taylor couldn't help but size her up, sneering contemptuously, "It's been six years. Is this what you've become? The value of all your possessions combined is not even enough for Jessica to buy a pair of socks. How dare you come back to Woerek?"
Sophia calmly said, "You don't need to worry about how I'm doing. It's you and Jessica who have done bad things over the years. One day, you will get what you deserve."
Taylor became angry and said, "You bitch! How dare you speak to me like that!"
Taylor yelled loudly. This was a high-end restaurant and it was quiet around. When she yelled like this, the nearby customers looked over. Taylor realized that her reaction was too strong and quickly lowered her voice and said, "I don't want to waste time talking to you. I only have one request, take your child and leave. You're pitiful. I can give you $50,000 as compensation."
Taylor took out a bank card and threw it on the table, exuding a domineering aura.
Sophia didn't even look at it and mockingly said, "Six years ago, you didn't care about my life for the sake of money. Do you think now I need to listen to you? This $50,000 is not even enough to chase away a beggar. If you've got the guts, put your life on the line."
After speaking, she snapped the bank card in half. The crisp sound of it breaking made Taylor so angry that her face twisted. She took off her sunglasses and stared at Sophia in disbelief, saying, "Don't push me to resort to force!"
Sophia turned and walked away.
Taylor didn't achieve her goal, so she couldn't let Sophia leave. She rushed up to fight Sophia!
At the end of the corridor, David was walking and reporting work to Victor who was walking ahead of him. Suddenly, he noticed Victor stopped and curiously followed his cold gaze. David was shocked to see Sophia right there!
