Chapter 68 - Surprised by Three Mates

April POV

“Now, don’t flick your wrist. Try to have as little bending as possible, otherwise.. it will affect the way the knife spins.” I said.

“Like this?” The girl asked. Her name is Lola, she was one of the forsaken Lycans. She tossed the knife, missing the bullseye of the target by barely an inch.

“Exactly like that. Just keep practicing and you’ll be hitting that bullseye every time.” I said. She gave me a proud smile and nodded her head.

“Thank you, my Queen.” She said.

I watched the others as they practiced with their weapons. Even though we don’t need them, it never hurts to have them as a backup. Swords swinging, knives being thrown, and wolfsbane grenades exploding.

“Ahh!!” One of the men screamed as the grenade in his hand exploded. Not only did it severely burn him.. but his entire hand was blown to bits. I ran over to him, his screaming piercing my ears.. he pulled away when my hand grabbed what was left of his.

“It’s okay. I’ve got you.” I said. He screamed as I held his blown limb in my hands. I closed my eyes and let my powers flow freely. His screaming died down until all that was left was a frightened whimper. I opened my eyes and his hand was already beginning to piece itself back together.

“It doesn’t hurt anymore.” He said. The burns had completely healed within seconds, now he held his hand and stared at it. It looked normal now.

“Do we have to use the wolfsbane?” He asked.

“It’s just in case. It won’t be used unless absolutely necessary. We just want everyone to know how to use them.” I said. He nodded his hand and pushed himself off the ground and held out his hand for me. I grabbed it and he pulled me up.

“I see you’ve really gotten the hang of your gifts.” Mom's voice came up behind me. The man walked off and continued working with the other warriors to figure out how to use these weapons.

“It’s surprisingly really simple,” I said. She stood beside me and walked with me as I watched the others.

“I had an idea,” I said. She walked in front of me and stopped, waiting for me to tell her what it is.

“We could do a spell and make Josephine look like you. That way I would know for sure nothing could happen to you. I’m afraid Catherine will have something up her sleeve.” I said. Mom sighed and shook her head.

“It’s a good idea.. but it won’t work long, if at all. You know how we can feel who has power and who doesn’t. How strong their power is.. Catherine would know. She may be insane, but she’s definitely not stupid. She would spot our lie and kill Josephine in an instant. I can’t put that at risk.” She said. I took a deep breath and let it out slowly.

“Look, as long as you have that dagger she can’t kill me.. she can try, but I can’t die unless she uses that dagger.” Mom said. I nodded my head. Catherine would definitely know the difference.

“I’m just worried. She could kill literally anyone else.. and yeah, I could surely bring them back.. but that won’t change the fact that she’d be killing them. And they would be dead. I’m just afraid of what she would do.” I said.

“I know, sweetie. Josephine and I are working on the perfect distraction. You’ll see. Just keep working with them, and keep practicing using your gifts. Not much longer and it’ll all be over.” She said. She grabbed my hand and held it tight.

“Everything will be just fine. We will finish this and make it safe for your pups.” She said.

“Alastair’s got you on that too, huh?” I rolled my eyes.

“He could be right.” She smiled.

“Do you have any idea how this works?” I asked.

“How what works?” She asked.

“I mean.. let’s say there’s one pup.. who would be the daddy?” I asked.

“From what I can sense.. I believe they would all be the father. I know, regardless of who the biological father is that they are all that pups father. But I believe that it’s not just one of them.” She said.

“You can sense that, but you're not able to tell me if there’s more than one?” I giggled.

“I didn’t even know you were hiding in there. So no. Or at least not right now. I used to listen to your brother's heartbeat all the time. Not once did I ever hear yours.. the doctor and I both think that your heartbeats were in sync and that’s why we didn’t know.” She said.

“I guess we’ll just have to wait to find out then,” I said.

“Any ideas on how we can protect my pup if something happens?” I asked.

“I was wondering when you were going to ask.” She said.

“I’m honestly getting tired of hearing Alastair come up with ideas from shows he’s seen on tv.” I chuckled.

“Oh, like the vampire diaries thing?” She asked with a smirk. I sighed and nodded.

“You know, they actually were pretty close with that. The only thing different is, we wouldn’t need an entire coven to do it. Just me.” She said. I looked at her wide-eyed and in disbelief.

“You’re kidding right?” I asked.

“No, I’m serious. If you were to die, that’s what would happen. We need someone who won’t be fighting. Someone who will stay hidden while everything goes down. But it’s only if you were to get severely hurt and we knew you’d be dying. You’re a Pheonix.. I don’t think a pup would survive you dying.. I believe the pup wouldn’t live, even when you come back. And you may not be able to bring the pup back..” She said. I felt a pant of sadness in my heart. The thought of losing my pup made me nauseous. I bent down, hands on my knees, and threw up the contents of my stomach.

“Sorry, hun.” Mom consoled me. She rubbed my back as I continued to spew vomit into the grass. When I knew there wasn’t anything else to come up, I wiped my mouth with my sleeve and stood up straight. My eyes and nose were runny and mom handed me a tissue.

“Where did you get this?” I asked.

“Girl, do you know who I am?” She giggled. I wiped my face off and chuckled.

“Sometimes I forget,” I said.

“Who would carry my pup until I came back?” I asked.

“We were thinking Maria.. but she wants to fight. But Charlie.. she volunteered. Dakota said it was perfect because there was no way she was letting Charlie and Beckett fight. Your father and I agreed, we don’t want anyone under 18 to fight.” Mom said.

“I think that’ll make a few warriors upset,” I said. She shook her head.

“Everyone knows, some were unhappy.. but they understood our reasons. I want them to have a chance to find their mates.” She said. I nodded my head.

“Anyways.. Charlie knows it’s a last resort, and I have a feeling we won’t even need to do it. It’s just a precaution.” She said I nodded my head. I didn’t feel like we’d need to do it either. But anything could happen.

“Alastair’s going to gloat about this to Klaus. Klaus said it is “unrealistic” and Alastair loves to be right.” I said with a smile.

“That doesn’t surprise me. Just wait until your first ultrasound.. you’ll have to deal with that from him if you really do have more than one pup in there.” She laughed.

“Oh, there definitely is more than one in there! I’m sure of it!” Alastair’s voice caught me off guard. I turned to see him, Klaus, and Alexei standing several feet away with smirks on their faces.

“How much of that did you hear?” I asked.

“Enough to know I was right!” Alastair threw his fists in the air. Klaus reached over and smacked the back of Alastair’s head.

“Hey man, just because I got it from a tv show doesn’t mean it can’t be real,” Alastair growled as he glared at Klaus.

“Says the one who thinks he has a tumor every time he looks up why he has a headache,” Alexei said. Alastair raised his eyebrows.

“It’s not normal to have headaches every night! Do you guys have headaches? I’m a wolf, which is the closest to humans since we age slowly.. I didn’t know if you guys had them or not.” Alastair said.

“We do have them. But also, that’s something I wanted to bring up with you guys..” mom said.

“What is?” I asked.

“Alastair’s a wolf.. but since he’s mated and marked you.. I’ve felt something in him change. I don’t think he will age. I think he will be immortal like you guys.” She said.

“Wait, are you serious?” Alastair asked.

“Yes. I was curious whether or not April would turn you when we found out you were one of her mates.. But ever since she marked you.. I don’t think it’s necessary. Unless you just wanted to be a Lycan.” Mom said. Alastair didn’t say anything for a moment, I could tell he was having a conversation with Callum.

“If we don’t have to.. Callum and I would like to stay a wolf. We like how we are.” Alastair said.

“I love you the way you are.” I smiled. I walked over to him and pulled him in for a kiss.

“We love you.” Callum and Alastair both said in unison. Goddess, the way their voices mix together just completely turns me on.

“And that’s my cue..” mom quickly turned around and walked off. I could feel my face heating up and I hid it against Alastair’s shirt. His scent filled my nose and made my mouth water intensely.

“So I was right, huh?” Alastair asked with a smirk. I rolled my eyes.

“Partially,” I said.
