Chapter 64 - Surprised by Three Mates

April POV

“I want to try something next time,” Alastair said.

“If it’s what I’m thinking, I’m down,” Klaus said. Alexei and I both looked at them confused.

“You know how we always take turns, right? We should try.. not taking turns.” Klaus said. Alastair nodded his head in agreement.

“Wait you mean like.. all of us at once?” Alexei said. His eyebrows were raised in shock and it made me giggle.

“Yes, precisely. It would be a very fun experience.” Alastair said.

“How would that even work? Positioning is so confusing..” Alexei said.

“You realize I have more than one hole..” Klaus and Alastair busted out laughing at the sight of Alexei’s face. His mouth dropped open and his eyes were wide.

“Well.. now that you put it that way..” Alexei chuckled.

“We can try it next time.” Klaus winked at us. I shook my head and giggled as I stood up.

“I’m all for it.. but I don’t think I could fit more than one of you in the same.. place..” I said.

“I believe you can. You need faith and lots of lube.” Alastair said with a grin. I rolled my eyes.

“I think I’m going to go.. downstairs..” I chuckled nervously.. hoping they weren’t planning to attack me right now. I walked towards the door and before I could open it all of my mates had surrounded me.

“We could always try right now..” Klaus said. My eyes widened.

“Yeah.. but we should start working with the forsaken.. it’s been a week since they all got here. They’ve been training, so I need to. Using my powers was easy at first.. let’s hope it stays that way. I think practicing will help.” I said. Klaus nodded his head and reached for the doorknob.

“I agree. Better safe than sorry.” Klaus said. He opened the door and I quickly walked out followed by them.

We walked downstairs and I stopped when I spotted Josephine sitting in the main hall with Lanie. (Mathew’s Mate)

They were sitting and talking, the dagger in Josephine’s hand. She’s gotten close to finishing the spell.. though she said it could be another week or two until she’s done.

I was about to go to them when I heard screaming. Adalyn’s screaming. Her pup is a week late.. she’s been in labor for an entire day already. I turned around when I heard several footsteps and her screaming got closer.

She was surrounded by nurses and a doctor on a doctor's bed being wheeled out of the castle. Her arms were strapped to the bedsides.

“Goddess! Untie me! I can’t give birth tied up!” She bellowed. Klaus looked at her, and she spotted him.. her eyes shifted downwards and she screamed once again.

“The baby is coming!” She growled.

“Doc we can’t make it to the clinic in time. I feel his head.” One of the nurses said. My mom ran into the foyer and looked around.

“What is going on in here?” Mom asked.

“We were taking her to the clinic as you said.. but the baby is already coming..” the doctor said.

“We’ll why are you just standing there? Take her into the main hall and get to work!” Mom said.

“Yes, my Queen.” The doctor said. They quickly pulled her bed into the main hall, Lanie and Josephine looked up confused.

Adalyn’s screams filled the front of the castle. Lanie and Josephine quickly escaped the room and went somewhere else.

I could tell Klaus was feeling sad.. he couldn’t keep his eyes off of Adalyn through the doorway.

“She doesn’t have anyone..” I said. I felt bad for her.. even after everything.. I still feel for her.

“That’s how she wanted it.. otherwise she wouldn’t have done what she did,” Klaus said. He looked at me and I knew what needed to be done.

“Go in there. You said you grew up together.. best friends, right? I know she’s done awful things.. but maybe it wouldn’t hurt to be with her..” I said. He shook his head.

“I don’t want to be near her.” He said. I sighed and looked at screaming adalyn. Goddess, why was I cursed to be such a caring person? I walked through the doorway and over to Adalyn and the doctor. Her face was red and sweaty, and her eyes filled with tears.

“Take off the restraints,” I said.

“But.. Princess, she’s a prisoner..” the doctor said.

“I said take them off. She’s giving birth, she won’t hurt anyone.” I said. He nodded at the nurses and they quickly untied her arms. I surprised myself when I grabbed her hand and held it.

She confusingly looked at me and tried to pull away.

“Why are you here?” She asked. She tried to pull her hand away but I didn’t let go. I assume another contraction took over because she screamed immediately after.

“No one should do this alone,” I said.

“Okay, miss. You need to push. He’s almost here.” The nurse said.

“I can’t.. I can’t..” she breathlessly said.

“Yes, you can. It’s almost over.” I said. Tears fell down her cheeks as she nodded to me. She pushed so hard, but by the look on the doctor's face.. it wasn’t enough.

I didn’t hesitate to sit her up some and climb behind her. I moved her red hair from her face and leaned her back against me.

“You need to push now.” The doctor said.

“You can do it. It’s okay. You’ll get to see your pup. He’s almost here.” I whispered.

“He won’t have a mom..” she cried.

“But he will be loved,” I replied. I imagine my feelings are coming from the fact that I.. may also be pregnant. And I will have to do this.. I just won’t be alone..

“I wish I could take it all back.. I feel so stupid.” She cried.

“I know..” I said. I looked back at my mates, Klaus looked as if he had changed his mind. I motioned him to come here with my head and he did.

He grabbed her hand and held her.

“Adalyn.. you have to push this baby out. You have to do it now.” He said.

“I’m sorry.. I’m so sorry.” She cried.

“Push, miss.” The doctor said. She grunted and pushed with all her might.

“There you go.. there he is. On the next contraction, one more push, okay?” The doctor asked.

She nodded her head quickly. Within a few seconds, she was screaming and pushing.

“You did it. Here he is.” The doctor held him up. His small blue face.. but there was something wrong.

“Why isn’t he crying?” She asked, frantically. The doctor started rubbing his chest but nothing was happening. The doctor flipped him on his stomach and started rubbing his back, the nurse swiping her finger in his mouth to clear out any gunk.

“What’s wrong with him? Why isn’t he crying?” Adalyn tried to sit up but I held her back.

“Just give him a moment,” Klaus whispered. She began sobbing uncontrollably.

“He should be fine..” she cried. Finally, small cries could be heard. Goddess, this pup has a set of lungs for sure.

Adalyn sighed in relief and relaxed against me. I watched the doctors clamp the umbilical cord and before he could cut it, Klaus stood up.

“I’d.. like to cut the cord.. if that’s okay?” He asked.

The doctor looked at me for an okay and I nodded my head. Klaus took the scissors from one of the nurses and cut the cord.

They immediately moved Adalyn’s gown and placed the pup on her chest. She inhaled deeply, taking in his fresh scent.

“I’m so sorry for what I’ve done.. your father would have loved you so much.. I’m sorry I took that from you.” She whispered to her pup. Tears filled my eyes.

Her breaths were shaky, and even behind her, I could see how pale she was. Is this normal?

“Hey.. doc.” I stopped when Adalyn began to lose consciousness.

“Addy?” Klaus asked. He grabbed her face and tried to wake her.

“I’m.. so sleepy.” She mumbled.

“We have to go. She’s hemorrhaging.” The doc said. He began getting the bed ready to move.

“No.. please. I love you.. my son..” Adalyn said softly. I couldn’t help but sob behind her. Klaus growled at her for not wanting to be saved, but she didn’t even budge. Her hand stopped moving on the pup's head and her eyes closed completely.

“We have to.. the queen.. she told us she’s being executed soon. I can’t let her die.” The doctor said. The heart monitor that was attached to the bed was beeping fast until the last beep became a long flat one.

“No. Leave her.” Mom finally spoke. I had forgotten she was even in the room.

The doctor looked back at her confused, but one stern look from Mom had him nodding his head quickly. He turned off the heart monitor and sighed.

“Time of death, 17:42.” The doctor said as he looked at the clock on the wall. Klaus rested his head against Adalyn’s hand and sat quietly.

We sat there for several minutes as the doctor and nurses left the room. The pup began to cry and without hesitation I grabbed him, holding his head as I picked him up. I sighed when his crying stopped, and my whole body filled with warmth.

His little swollen face, tiny hands, and feet.. how can they be this small?

“We will be holding our pup soon.” Iris purred. I held the pup against my chest and took a deep breath of his fresh scent.

“I’ve mind-linked your father, he just got done talking with the Alpha of the Nightwalker pack. They will be here tomorrow.. we told them she didn’t survive childbirth.” Mom said after a few moments. I nodded and looked at Klaus who was still resting his head on Adalyn’s hand.

“Klaus..” I said. He looked up at me with the pup in my arms. Alastair and Alexei stopped staring from the foyer and walked in.

“You should hold him,” I said. He shook his head but I gave him a stern look. The look I learned best from Mom.

“Hold him. She would want you to.” I whispered. He sighed and looked at the pup. Alexei grabbed a receiving blanket and held it under the pup. He helped me cover the pup and I handed him to a nervous Klaus. His eyes filled with tears and he let out a sob.

“She was my best friend.” He choked out. Alastair patted his shoulder as Klaus pulled the pup against him. The pup's eyes opened slightly, which brought a smile to Klaus’s face.

“He has her eyes.” He whispered. I covered my mouth to stifle the sobs. Even after everything she’s done.. she was good in the end.

Alastair helped me shift Adalyn so I could get out of the bed. I stumbled as I got up and he caught me.

“Are you okay?” He asked in a soft tone. I nodded my head. I was afraid to speak.. I may cry instead. That pup has no parents..

“It’ll be okay. They’ll take care of him. We will make sure of it.” He whispered.

I looked once again at the pup and my heart melted. He had a little smile on his face.. though I know it was not intentional.. it’s still the sweetest thing ever.
