Chapter Two Hundred and Thirty
Chapter Two Hundred and Thirty
Jayce
Rose is still in bed, but awake. I am getting ready for my workday. Rose got up while I showered to make us breakfast and coffee. After, she climbed back into bed, and I got myself ready.
“What are your plans for the day?”
Rose shrugs. “I really don’t know. I am unsure what to do with myself since I don’t need to go to work anymore.”
Rose made the choice to focus on her writing, something Jane encouraged. She told Jane that if she needed her, she could call, and she would come in. I feel like it is a decision that she regrets. She is doing great with her writing and is earning more than enough to not have to work.
“Why don’t you do some writing? Then you can come by my office, and I will treat you to lunch later.” I suggest.
“That would be nice. It will take me some time to adjust to the changes. I will be fine in time.”
I nod. “Yes, you will be fine.”
I reach down and kiss her softly.
“I will see you at lunch time,”
“I love you. If you want, you can join me at work. You can use my office to write, or one of the conference rooms? It will give you some company.”
“I may do that, but I want a little more sleep first.” She laughs.
I chuckle and nod. “You can let me know.”
“I will. You should go so you aren’t late. I love you.”
I steal one last kiss before heading out, driving to the office. I hope she comes by because she will get lonely being home alone all day. If she really wanted to go back to work, I am sure that if she asked Jane, she would let her, even just a couple of days a week. If Rose really wants a job, she can come work with me. She could work in the office or the club. It will give her something to do if she needs a break from writing. I can discuss it with her when I see her later.
I pull into the parking garage and up to my office to start my day. I am a little groggy still from Saturday night, but nowhere near as bad as I was. I greet everyone with a smile and a good morning as I stroll to my office. I am in a good mood.
I settle down at my desk, my assistant bringing my coffee. I get straight to work because I have a lot to catch up on after taking some time off. It won’t take me long, though. I bury my head in work, getting lost in time.
About an hour or so into it, a knock comes at my office door. I glance up, expecting to see someone who works for me. I am soon disappointed when I see it is Lillian. Honestly, a part of me expected her to show up at some point.
How did she even get in? I am usually informed if someone is here to see me.
“Lillian, what the hell are you doing here?” I hiss.
A smirk curls on her lips, and she strolls into my office without being invited. I roll my eyes as she appears at my desk. “I hear you are getting married soon?”
“Not like it is any of your business, but yes, I am. Again, what are you doing here?”
I stay in my seat because I don’t want to be anywhere near her.
“Why? Why are you settling down? A man like you should be free, Jayce.”
“Because I love Rose. She is the one for me. I can’t wait to marry her. Rose makes me a better man. Now that we have that cleared up, you can leave.”
I am trying my hardest to stay calm and not lose my temper.
Lillian places her hands on my desk, leaning forward to give me a few down her dress. I don’t look. I am not falling for that nonsense.
“We could have a little fun, you know, before you tie yourself down for the rest of your life. Rose doesn’t need to know.’ She purrs.
I open my mouth to reply, but someone beats me to it.
“You have two seconds to get your breasts out of my fiancé’s face and get the hell away from him before I make you.”
The sound of Rose’s angry voice comes from behind us. Lillian rolls hers before standing up straight and turning to her.
“God, are you always around? Do you not give him any peace?” She snarls.
Rose walks over, standing in front of her. “Listen to me bitch, and listen carefully, okay? We aren’t playing this game. You are going to leave and never come back because I swear if you do, I will hurt you. Jayce isn’t interested in you! When are you going to get that into your thick head? He loves me. He is marrying me. He doesn’t want you, not even for sex, so take your desperate ass out the door and don’t return because I will make your life a living hell, Lillian, without thinking twice about it.”
“It is time for you to leave, Lillian. If you don’t, I will have you forcefully removed.”
Lillian turns to me and back to Rose before she whines like a child and rushes off. She’d better stay away from us. I am not doing this again. We are not doing this again.
Rose groans in frustration. I go around to where she is and pull her against my chest. “Rose, forget about her.”
“I am trying. Why is she doing this again?”
“I don’t know, but we got rid of her once, we can do it again,” I reply and kiss her softly.
“I really hope so because I am not doing this again, not with our wedding coming up.”
“We will focus on that and not her. If she comes around again, I will tell her to stay away, and I will keep telling her until she gets the hint. Try not to worry about it, okay?”
Rose nods. “Does your offer for me to work here for the day still stand?”
“Of course it does, pretty eyes. You can stay in here, or I can set you up in a conference room.”
“I will work in here for now and work on the book I have been writing. I have another idea in my head, so I will use the conference room for that, so I have room for my sticky notes.” She laughs.
I peck her lips. “Whatever you want, baby girl.”
Rose settles down on the sofa, and I return to my desk after being rudely interrupted by Lillian. She’d better not come back around here. I will make sure security, the receptionist and my assistant know not to let her back in. I sigh. I thought we had gotten past all this. We have our fair share of things, and now I hope this is the time for us to focus only on us and our wedding, not on other people or the drama trying to ruin it.
