Chapter 878 The Grey Family

Chapter 878 The Grey Family

Rita gave a quick nod.

Evan said, "Get up and get ready. Make yourself look good so the family sees you differently."

"Okay." Rita jumped up, grabbed her phone, and checked the time. "It's already eleven o'clock!"

She had slept until eleven. That was rare for her since she usually didn't sleep well.

Evan shrugged, "It's only eleven, still early. No rush, let them wait."

Rita wanted to show the Grey family she wasn't someone to mess with anymore, but she knew she wasn't strong enough to face them head-on just yet.

Rita got ready quickly and left with Evan.

To her surprise, the Grey family had been waiting in the hotel lobby for a while.

Her uncle, Noe Grey, was there. He was the one who always made her feel worthless.

Noe saw Evan and greeted him like a suck-up, "Evan, you're bringing Rita home? Why didn't you tell us earlier? We have plenty of rooms at home; no need to waste money on a hotel."

Noe was being all nice now. In the past, he called Rita all sorts of nasty names like "worthless girl" or "jinx."

Rita knew why. Despite her disgust, she obediently said, "Uncle."

Noe nodded, giving Rita a rare kind smile today. "Rita, how have you been in Girona these past few months? I've heard Evan treats you very well, but I didn't believe it. Seeing it today, it's true."

Turns out, Evan had told the Grey family at eight o'clock that he would be bringing Rita back to the Grey Mansion today.

Noe decided to come to the hotel himself to pick them up. He had been waiting in the hotel lobby for nearly three hours, growing impatient. But with Evan there, he had no choice but to keep waiting.

Rita said, "Thanks for your concern. We're doing well."

Evan glanced at Noe and pulled Rita along, saying, "No need for you to pick us up. Rita and I will go to the Grey Mansion ourselves."

Informing them but refusing to ride in their car was clearly meant to embarrass Noe.

Noe didn't dare to do anything to Evan, but he thought he could still control Rita. "Rita, if you go home without taking my car, it will be hard for me to explain to the family. Especially Evelyn, who has been waiting for me to bring you back."

He was pretending to be concerned but was actually threatening Rita.

Rita understood. While she was in Girona, she was free from the Grey family's control, but Evelyn was still there. If she vented her anger, Evelyn would suffer.

Rita didn't dare to take that risk, but she didn't want Evan to be put in a tough spot either, leaving her in a bind.

Evan saw her worry and said, "Don't worry, they won't dare to bully Evelyn anymore."

Rita said, "But..."

Evan squeezed her hand and continued, "In the past, they took Evelyn's phone and didn't let her contact you because they were afraid you wouldn't agree to marry into the Smith family and wanted to use Evelyn to control you. Now it's different. Seeing how well I treat you and protect you, they'll be eager to let her contact you every day."

Thinking it over, Evan's words made sense. Rita nodded, "Thanks for coming with me! If I came alone, I might not even get to see Evelyn."

Evan said, "You're my fiancée, arranged by our families. Of course, I'll be with you."

Evan's words were meant to reassure Rita that their relationship was solid and recognized by both families. No one would tear them apart.

But to Rita, it sounded like he was saying he only helped her because of the family arrangement.

As they walked out of the hotel, Rita whispered, "Let's get a limo. I can't let you be looked down upon."

Evan chuckled at her naivety. "You scaredy-cat, taking a cab already embarrassed me."

Rita said confidently, "I'll call the most expensive car."

Evan led Rita to a Lamborghini parked at the hotel entrance. "Get in."

Rita said, "So you already called a car."

Evan didn't explain. "Silly, get in."

Rita didn't waste a second and quickly got into the car, not even glancing back at Noe's livid face.

Thinking about how Noe, who always looked down on her, was now in such a position, Rita suddenly felt refreshed, and the weather seemed brighter.

Seeing her in such high spirits, Evan was genuinely happy for her. "How do you feel now?"

Rita beamed, "Great, I've never felt this good."

Evan couldn't help but smile along with her.

In the future, he would make sure she felt this good every day and was never bullied by anyone again.

About twenty minutes later, they arrived at the Grey Mansion.

Noe had arrived before them and was leading the family to greet them at the door. The Grey family, who had never shown Rita a kind face, were now all smiles.

Each one of them called out to Rita as if they had a great relationship with her.

But Rita only had eyes for Evelyn.

Evelyn wanted to rush over and hug her long-missed sister, but with the family around, she didn't dare. She stood at the back of the crowd, timidly looking at Rita.

Rita was surrounded by family and couldn't get away.

Evan helped her out, "In Girona, you kept talking about your sister. Aren't you going to see her first?"

Hearing Evan, the Grey family quickly made way and pushed Evelyn in front of Rita. "Evelyn has been talking about Rita every day. We know you two are close, so we had her waiting for you. Who knew she would run off to play just now."

Rita glanced at the speaker, wanting to say something but held back.

Evelyn was the most sensible. If she knew Rita was coming, she probably wouldn't sleep all night, let alone sneak off to play.

Evelyn said, "Rita!"

Rita raised her hand to touch Evelyn's head and called out, "Evelyn."

She had so much to ask Evelyn, but with everyone's attention on them, she couldn't ask anything. She couldn't even hug Evelyn.

Aimee said, "Evan, seeing you and Rita so well together, we are relieved."

Evan said, "What are you relieved about?"

Aimee said, "Of course, we're relieved to entrust Rita to you. We used to worry she'd be mistreated far away, but now we don't have that worry."

Evan coldly laughed, "Really?"
