Chapter 59 The Truth, Unleashed

Chapter 59 The Truth, Unleashed
Alexander’s POV

I knew this day would come. It wasn’t a matter of if. Just when.

Ivy was too fucking smart for her own good.

Too curious. Too much mine to let secrets rot in the dark without digging them up like bones in a shallow grave.

And now here she is. Shaking. Beautiful. Devastated.

Holding the ghosts of my past like they belong to her.

Because maybe… they do.

I stare at her across my desk, the scattered letters, her trembling hands, her watery, furious eyes and I feel it. That sharp, gnawing ache right under my ribs. Guilt. Rage. Shame.

Fuck.

I pick up one of the letters. The paper crackles, soft and worn like skin. Yellowed. Smelling faintly of mold and memory. I flip it between my fingers like it doesn’t weigh more than my soul.

I clear my throat, but it still comes out like gravel.

Rough. Raw. Ugly.

“My first wife…” I pause. “She was collateral damage.”

Ivy flinches.

And it rips something open in me I didn’t even know was still bleeding.

That look in her eyes? The horror. The betrayal.

Like I’m not just a stranger… but a fucking monster.

Maybe I am. But I keep going. Because I owe her that much. Because there’s no turning back now.

“Her father trained me,” I say, voice low. “Turned me into what I am. A weapon. A ghost. A fucking hitman. He pulled me out of nothing, he plucked me off the streets like some stray and carved a killer out of me.”

I don’t take my eyes off her. I won’t. She deserves every inch of this horror.

Every cracked truth. Every fucked-up piece of who she’s in love with.

“He sent me on a job. High risk. Big money. It was supposed to be clean one hit, done. But the bastard I went after didn’t die easy. He found out who I was. And he found out about her.”

I pause.

The memory slithers up my spine like ice water. Cold. Poisonous. Permanent.

“He killed her to get to me. My wife died because of me. Because her own father used me like a goddamn gun and never gave a shit where the bullets landed.”

I drop the letter like it’s on fire.

Ivy doesn’t move. Doesn’t speak.

Just stares at me like she’s trying to see past the man in front of her to the man she thought I was.

I take a step forward. Then another. Until I can feel her heat.

“I never hurt her, Ivy.” My voice is hoarse now. Fraying at the edges. “I loved her… in my own broken, fucked-up way. But I wasn’t strong enough back then to protect her.”

I reach out. For her.

For the only thing that’s ever made me want to be better.

She tenses. But she doesn’t pull away.

My fingertips brush her cheek, soft as silk, flushed from crying.

God, she’s trembling. So breakable. So fucking mine.

“But I’m not that man anymore,” I murmur, eyes locked on hers. “I am now. Strong enough. Dangerous enough. Unhinged enough. I’d burn the world, Baby Girl. I’d fucking drown it before I let anyone touch a single hair on your head.”

Her lips part. Her breath hitches.I feel the pull between us.

Even now. Even through the grief, the rage, the fear. It’s always there.

“I know you’re scared,” I whisper, dragging my knuckles down her cheek, tracing her jaw.

“I know you don’t know what to believe.”

She doesn’t answer. But she leans into my touch like she wants to believe. Like she’s torn between running and jumping into my fire.

“But you’re not running, Ivy.” My voice hardens, deepens. Possession curling around every word like a goddamn brand.

“You hear me? You’re fucking mine. Even when the whole world burns.”
