Chapter 47 My Child Has Nothing to Do With You
Without waiting for Dominic's response, Arabella mustered her energy and hurried away.
Dominic's handsome face darkened as he seemed to understand something from her words. After hesitating for two seconds, he turned and walked toward the hospital room.
Fortunately, by this time, Emily had already pulled away from Gabriel's embrace.
Dominic knocked on the door and entered, his gaze lingering on Emily for quite a while before looking toward Gabriel and asking casually, "What's going on? Your stomach problems landed you in the hospital?"
Gabriel felt indignant on Emily's behalf, and his resentment toward Dominic colored his response, "It's nothing serious. The doctor is just being overly cautious, insisting I stay for observation for two days."
As he spoke, Dominic had moved closer.
Seeing Emily's dejected state, he couldn't remain completely unmoved, especially noticing how visibly thinner she'd become, her chin now pointed, her eyes red and puffy from recent tears, which sent a sharp pang through his heart.
His gaze lingered for a long moment before he spoke quietly, "What's wrong? Why are you crying?"
Emily turned her head away, wiping her tears with her hand, stubbornly choking out, "It's none of your business."
Her pride flaring up, she refused even to look at her husband properly. After speaking, she stood up, "Gabriel, take care of yourself. I'm heading home."
Dominic knew she was avoiding him and called out as she turned away, "Emily, wait!"
But Emily completely ignored him, actually quickening her pace.
Gabriel, frustrated for both of them, snapped irritably, "What are you standing there for? Go after her!"
Dominic had just arrived and barely exchanged a few words. He looked back at Gabriel, bit down hard, and immediately turned to chase after her.
At the elevators, he caught Emily's hand.
But Emily yanked it away immediately, "Don't touch me! Or I'll call security!"
Dominic knew her temperament and understood that reasoning with her now would be useless. In the past, he would have simply carried her home and sorted things out behind closed doors.
But now she was pregnant—he couldn't treat her so roughly.
So he forced himself to adjust his emotions, making his tone gentler and more patient, "Don't be like this. Let's go home and talk it through properly, okay?"
Emily's tears flowed like a broken dam as she could no longer hold back, turning to face him, "Now you want to go home and talk? These past few days, what were you thinking? You didn't call, didn't even send a single message—as if I didn't exist! Yesterday, when my parents called us over, your attitude didn't improve either. Dominic, I'm carrying your child, and this is how you treat me!"
Dominic explained, "I wanted to contact you, but I was afraid we'd just fight again. With you staying at your parents' house, if they knew we were arguing, it would make things more complicated."
"Ha, you still care what my parents think of you? If you cared, how could you treat me this way?"
Dominic argued back, "Haven't I been good to you before? All these years, haven't I been completely accommodating? But what about you? You've taken my unlimited tolerance for granted, becoming more and more unreasonable, completely disregarding my feelings!"
Seeing that even now he was lecturing her and being self-righteous, Emily became even more distraught, "How have I disregarded your feelings? I love you so much—everything I do, I consider you first. And you say I don't care about your feelings!"
"If you cared, how could you keep things so unclear with Gabriel? Even after such a huge scandal, you still don't know how to reflect on yourself. Do you know Arabella was here earlier? I didn't see what you two were doing in the room, but she left looking devastated—which means you definitely crossed a line!"
Originally, Dominic had come after her, intending to have a proper conversation.
But she wouldn't take the olive branch he offered.
After a few exchanges that led nowhere, he forgot his original purpose for coming here and spoke more and more bluntly.
Emily was stunned, whether by his anger or by learning that Arabella had been there.
They both fell silent, the atmosphere strained. Dominic angrily put his hands on his hips and took a deep breath, trying to calm his emotions.
After a long moment, Emily recovered somewhat, murmuring with a dead heart, "So you don't believe me either. You think I've done something to betray you."
Seeing her like this, Dominic's heart softened. He was too tired to keep arguing and reached out for her, "Forget it, let's not bring up the past. Let's go home."
The woman dodged, stepping back to avoid his hand.
Looking up, tears streaming down her face, she wiped them away roughly and said defiantly, "If that's what you want to think, then fine—I did cheat on you. I don't love you anymore either. So, Dominic, let's get divorced!"
As she finished speaking, the elevator arrived. She turned around, heartbroken, and walked in without hesitation.
Dominic's lashes trembled as sudden pain shot through his heart. He quickly grabbed the woman's arm, narrowing his eyes with a grave voice, "Emily, are you serious?"
Without turning around, she replied firmly, "Of course. I'll have my lawyer draft divorce papers as soon as possible."
Dominic asked through gritted teeth, "What about the child?"
She laughed bitterly, turning back with tears blurring her vision so she couldn't see the man's face clearly, "Once we're divorced, why would you care about my child? What does it have to do with you?"
Seeing Dominic struck speechless, his face frozen in shock, she felt a vindictive satisfaction, then forcefully shook off his hand.
The elevator had already left, and not wanting to stay another second, she turned toward the escalator instead.
Dominic stood frozen in place, staring fixedly at her retreating figure. Only at this moment did he dare believe that this girl who had adored him and worshipped him since childhood, who had always chased after him, was truly abandoning him.
Long after Emily's figure had disappeared, he slowly drew a breath and turned back toward the hospital room.
Both were so absorbed in their argument that neither noticed a camera lens from a nearby building aimed at them, capturing the entire scene.

In the hospital room, Gabriel was half-reclined against the headboard, working on his laptop.
Seeing Dominic return, he raised his eyebrows slightly, somewhat surprised.
But one look at his expression told him everything.
"Emily left?" Gabriel asked in a low voice.
Dominic took a heavy breath, walking dejectedly to the bedside and pulling out a chair to sit down, "She said she wants a divorce. She's serious about it."
Gabriel replied, "Mm, she mentioned it to me earlier."
Dominic said nothing.
"So what are you thinking? You've only been married just over a year—supposedly still newlyweds—and it's ending in divorce? Especially when she's carrying your child."
Gabriel didn't want to interfere in their affairs, but this scene had unfolded right in front of him, and since Dominic had brought it up, he felt compelled to offer some analysis.
Dominic looked up at him and suddenly said out of nowhere, "Emily seems to have finally realized who she truly loves."
"What do you mean?" Gabriel's eyes narrowed dangerously, reading the implication in Dominic's expression, and he flew into a rage, "Are you saying we betrayed you?"
Dominic pursed his lips, neither confirming nor denying.
Gabriel had originally planned to help mediate, but hearing such nonsense, his anger flared.
"No wonder Emily wants to divorce you. Dominic, you're nothing but a complete bastard! Her heart and eyes are full of you, yet you accuse her of being unfaithful. I think you should divorce—you don't deserve her love!"
