Being The Cunning Girl
Alison's Point of View:
I felt like I had been punched in the gut. George's words hung in the air, echoing off the walls of the throne room. "You're also quite... misinformed," he said, a hint of amusement dancing in his eyes. "You see, I am not the king's grandchild. I am the king."
I couldn't believe it. I had thought I was negotiating with some minor noble or prince. But the King himself? I felt a wave of panic wash over me as I realized the gravity of my mistake.
George's eyes seemed to bore into my soul, as if he was searching for any sign of deception. I held his gaze, trying to convey my sincerity, but I could feel my heart racing in my chest. I had promised the king to help dethrone him.
I tried to speak, but my voice caught in my throat. I had to try again, to think of something to say to salvage this situation. But before I could speak, George continued, his voice dripping with amusement.
"So, now that we've cleared up that little misunderstanding," he said, "tell me... what makes you think you can help me, Alison?"
I felt like I was trapped in a nightmare. George's words were like a trap, closing in around me. I knew I had to think fast, to come up with something to say that would appease him. I felt I was trapped down the dark rabbit hole.
But as I looked into George's eyes, I saw something there that made my blood run cold. Amusement, yes, but also something else. Something that looked almost like... curiosity.
And that's when it hit me. George wasn't just a monarch, he was a predator. And I was his prey.
I stuttered, my eyes locked on George's, silently begging for mercy. "I, Your Majesty, I think... No, I believe that... that..." I trailed off, unable to find the right words.
I felt a wave of humiliation wash over me as I realized how ridiculous I must look, seated on the floor, stuttering like a fool. The maids had dragged me here, and now I was at George's mercy.
I could feel his eyes on me, boring into my skin, and I knew he was enjoying every moment of this. He was toying with me, playing a game of cat and mouse, and I was the mouse.
"Take your time, Alison," George said, his voice dripping with amusement. "I'm in no hurry. But do try to be more... coherent. Your Majesty, you think... what, exactly?"
I felt a surge of frustration at his words, but I knew I had to keep my cool. I took a deep breath and tried to gather my thoughts, but my mind was a jumble of fear and anxiety. What could I say to get out of this situation? What could I say to appease George?
I felt like I was drowning in his gaze, unable to escape the weight of his amusement. I knew I had to think fast, to come up with something to say that would placate him. But my mind was a blank, unable to conjure up a single coherent thought.
I glanced around the room, searching for some kind of inspiration. But all I saw were the cold, unforgiving stone walls, and the maids who had to stand guard, their faces pathetic, yet impassive.
I turned my attention back to George, who was still watching me with an air of amusement. I took a deep breath, trying to calm my racing heart. I knew I had to speak, to say something that would appease George.
But what could I say? I had promised to help him, but that was before I knew he was the King. Now, I was trapped in a web of my own making, with no clear way out.
"I...I believe that I can still help you, Your Majesty," I stammered, trying to sound confident.
George raised an eyebrow, his expression skeptical. "Oh? And how might that be, Alison?" he asked, his voice dripping with amusement.
I felt a surge of panic at his question. What could I say? I didn't have any skills or abilities that would be useful to a king. I was just an ordinary Beta, disowned by my family, and lost in a deep wood.
But I knew I had to think fast, to come up with something that would satisfy George. So I took a deep breath, and began to spin a tale, hoping against hope that it would be enough to save me.
“I can be your right-hand advisor,” I mumbled.
George looked caught off guard. “My right-hand advisor?” he said with disbelief. “And why in the world do you think I will make a total stranger my right-hand advisor?”
I swallowed hard, trying to think of a plausible response. "B-because, Your Majesty," I stammered, "I possess certain... skills. Skills that would be valuable to you in your role as King."
George raised an eyebrow, his expression skeptical. "Oh? And what skills might those be, Alison?" he asked, his voice dripping with amusement.
I felt a surge of panic at his question. What skills could I possibly have that would be of value to a king? I was just an ordinary Beta, after all. But I knew I had to think fast, to come up with something that would satisfy George.
So I took a deep breath, and began to spin a tale, hoping against hope that it would be enough to save me. "I have experience... in diplomacy, Your Majesty," I said, trying to sound confident. "I've dealt with difficult people before, and I'm skilled at finding creative solutions to complex problems."
George looked at me, his expression unreadable. For a moment, I thought I saw a flicker of interest in his eyes, but it was quickly replaced by skepticism.
"I see," he said, his voice dripping with amusement. "And what makes you think you can handle the complexities of being my right-hand advisor?"
I felt a surge of fear at his question. I knew I was in over my head, but I also knew I had to keep going. I had to convince George that I was the right person for the job, no matter how impossible it seemed.
So I took a deep breath, and began to speak, hoping against hope that my words would be enough to convince George to spare my life.
