Chapter 76 The Doctor's appointment. Cute Conversation.
Author’s POV

Eva sat beside Rina’s hospital bed, gently caressing the back of her hand. The room was quiet except for the soft beeping of the monitor beside her bed. Rafael stood near the window, watching them silently.

“I missed you, Rina,” Eva said softly, her voice full of warmth.

Rina smiled weakly. Though she still looked pale, her eyes had some life in them now.

“Don’t worry,” Rina replied. “I’ll get well soon and return to the mansion. Then I’ll annoy everyone again.”

Eva laughed softly.

“Yes, please do. The mansion feels too quiet without you.”

Rafael shook his head with a faint smile. “Too quiet? It feels peaceful.”

Rina gasped dramatically. “See? He already replaced me.”

Eva laughed again.

“No one can replace you, trust me.”

Rina smiled proudly. “Exactly.”

Eva leaned a little closer.

“And actually… we have a little surprise news for you.”

Rina’s eyes widened with curiosity.

“Don’t tell me you finally hit Rafael brother,” she said immediately.

Eva burst into laughter while Rafael sighed.

“Seriously?”

Rina grinned.

“What? It was my best guess.”

Eva shook her head.

“Do you really think I can hit your brother?”

Rina gave Rafael a look.

“Well… maybe not physically. But emotionally? Definitely.”

Even Rafael smiled at that.

“Your guess failed,” Eva said. “Because I have a much happier piece of news.”

Rina looked excited now.

“Tell me. Quickly!”

Eva glanced at Rafael for a second before looking back at her.

“Me and Rafael… we’re expecting our first child.”

For a second, Rina froze.

Then her eyes widened so much that Eva almost laughed.

“What?! Really?!”

She tried to sit up too quickly and immediately groaned in pain.

Rafael rushed forward.

“Don’t move,” he said firmly. Eva gently touched her shoulder.

“Careful, Rina.” She slowly relaxed back against the bed, still staring at them in disbelief.

“Are you serious?” she asked, looking from Eva to Rafael. Eva smiled softly.

“Yes. I’m serious.”

“Oh my God… I can’t believe this.” She looked at Rafael.

“And you? You’re sure?”

“Very sure,” Rafael answered calmly.

Rina’s eyes became teary.

“A baby… I’m so happy for both of you. Congratulations.”

Eva smiled warmly.

“Thank you.”

“I wish I could stand right now,” Rina said sadly. “I want to hug you so badly, Eva.” Eva squeezed her hand.

“Then get well soon. After that, you can hug me as much as you want.” Rina nodded.

“Yes. I’ll recover fast now. I have to meet my future favorite baby.” Rafael crossed his arms.

“Favorite? Before even meeting the child?”

“Of course,” Rina replied proudly. “Because unlike you, the baby will be sweet.” Eva laughed while Rafael gave Rina a warning look.

After talking for a little longer, Eva and Rafael finally left the room.

They walked quietly through the hospital corridor. After a few steps, Rafael spoke.

“I want to take you somewhere.” Eva looked at him.

“Where?”

“To meet a well-known obstetrician and gynecologist.”

She frowned slightly.

“But why? I already told you I’m fine.” Rafael stopped walking and turned toward her.

“And I want to make sure you’re truly fine.” Eva sighed.

“There are no complications, Rafael.”

“You don’t know that for sure.”

“I feel okay.” He stepped closer, his voice softer now.

“Eva, this isn’t just about feeling okay. You’re carrying our child.” She looked at him quietly.

“I know.”

“Then let me worry. Let me make sure both of you are safe.” His hand gently rested on her stomach.

“I’ve lost too much already. I won’t take risks with you.” Eva’s expression softened.

“You really are scared, aren’t you?” Rafael gave a small, honest nod.

“Yes.”

She smiled faintly and took his hand.

“Fine. We’ll go.”

A small smile appeared on his lips.

“Thank you.”

“But,” she added, narrowing her eyes playfully, “if the doctor says everything is normal, you owe me ice cream.”

Rafael smirked.

“If the doctor says everything is normal, I’ll buy you the entire ice cream shop.”

“ Don't worry, Mr Vladimir, everything is fine. Mrs Vladimir was already on folic acid tablets before she conceived the child and is on… so there is nothing to worry about,” The doctor said and Rafael felt some ease, but the worry in his eyes remained.

“Are you sure?” he asked. “I just want everything to be perfect. I don’t want even the smallest risk.”

The doctor gave him a small understanding smile.

“That is normal for a father,” she said. “Especially for a first child.”

Eva, sitting beside him, looked at Rafael and tried not to smile at how serious he looked.

“See? I told you not to overthink,” she whispered.

Rafael ignored her and looked back at the doctor.

“Is there any congenital disease? Any possibility of complications?” he asked again.

The doctor folded her hands on the table.

“Actually, it is too early to know that. We can run proper tests only after Mrs. Vladimir reaches her first month of gestation. Right now, the pregnancy is still in its early stage, so we focus on basic care and precautions.”

She then turned her attention to Eva.

“For now, my advice is simple. You should avoid walking too fast, avoid unnecessary physical stress, and most importantly, stop stressing yourself mentally.”

Eva sighed dramatically.

“That sounds like a direct attack on my life.”

The doctor laughed softly.

“I am serious, Mrs. Vladimir.”

“I know,” Eva said, smiling. “But stress follows me like my shadow.”

She hesitated for a moment before asking the question that had been bothering her.

“What about my college classes? Do I need to drop out for now?”

Rafael immediately turned to look at her, already expecting the question.

The doctor shook her head.

“No, not at all. Pregnancy should never become a wall between you and your education. You can continue your studies.”

Eva’s face lit up instantly.

“Really?”

“Yes,” the doctor replied. “As long as you take proper rest, eat healthy food, and do not overwork yourself. Your health comes first, but your education is also important.”

Eva quickly turned to Rafael with bright, hopeful eyes.

“You heard that?”

Rafael stared at her silently.

“Please explain it to my husband in a better way,” Eva told the doctor dramatically. “He behaves like I am made of glass.”

The doctor smiled and looked at Rafael.

“My main concern is her academic stress,” Rafael said seriously. “What if it harms our child?”

The doctor nodded.

“I understand your concern, Mr. Vladimir. But let me ask you something… what if forcing her to leave her studies hurts her emotionally even more? Stress does not only come from studying. Sometimes regret creates bigger stress.”

Eva immediately nodded.

“Exactly! Thank you, doctor. Please keep talking.”

The doctor continued, “It all depends on Mrs. Vladimir and how she manages herself. If she stays balanced, there is no reason she cannot continue.”

Silence filled the room. Eva looked at Rafael nervously.

“Rafael… please. I have already missed so much. I don’t want to lose another year.”

He looked at her face, at the hope in her eyes, and after a long pause, he finally spoke.

“Any suggestions you want to give for my university-going wife?” he asked the doctor.
