53. Dissection of the Mundane
Cassius POV
Sol had giving me a job to do. I was to talk to the wild wolves fill her in on everything I knew about my sister and stepfather's and their coven of witches; how they acted and how they responded to their personalities it was in depth.
The things she would ask would make no sense and I didn't understand why she was asking them. Why would she want to know if Venus regularly bathed? When I asked her about it, she said it means she's vain if she's bathing twice a day every day that's no logical sense and that's wasteful it means she cares about her appearance or that she's simply just getting dirty during the day being in the dirt hunting doing outdoorsy stuff.
I laughed Venus was not an outdoors person she hated being in the woods. Had my stepsister had the option she would never step into the woods. However, she now lived with a pack and that meant nature. She if she could I knew would burn it all down. Then she would pave over most of their space instead of keeping it in the natural environment, that was if she could get away with it.
But there were tons of questions Sol asked. Mostly it was simple things like what does Venus typically wear or how often does she spend time in one room? Is your sister an average reader or does she know history. What are her likes and her dislikes, and it wasn't Venus. Sol wanted to know this kind of information about my stepfather and every coven member that I could think of. I gave as much detail as I could. And as I did, I watched my mate. It looked like she was cataloguing all the information in her head, forming files and sorting them, to exploit later.
She was formulating a plan; I could see it. Sol was trying to know their schedules in her head; I couldn’t help but feel a bit intimidated knowing her brain worked like that. I'd never met anyone whose brain worked like that. Was this why she never talked to people? Was she spending all her time analyzing their deeds.
I had to admit I found her mind fascination by the way she was so thoughtful about understanding everything down to the smallest minute detail. But it wasn't just information about these people she wanted to know. Sol also wished me to tell her everything that I had done while I was at her pack visiting who I had talked to what kind of people I had been around what had changed in the time I had been there everything she could get her hands on she wanted to know it was like information overload and I didn't know how she was comprehending it all or storing it in her brain. I worried she might miss things having learned so much in such a short period of time?
“I need you to reach out to your sister and find out what she knows.” she finally said. I didn’t think that was a good idea. I tried to tell Sol that it wasn’t a good idea to reach out to Venus, my shit stepsister. I knew she would just try to use me or get information, or it would somehow put us on her radar if we weren’t already, which I found to be probably impossible, although she didn’t know our whereabouts. I was worried that this plan would lead to our ruin or at least make it happen sooner, and I voiced those opinions to Sol.
“Fist let me be clear. I am the alpha you’re not my Luna. You’re not my equal in this role. We have established that, and you agreed to it, so my commands are final.” she said firmly as if I was speaking to a general. “Secondly, I will tell you exactly what to say. You can add your twist to make it seem like you, but what I tell you to say will not give anything away and, in all honesty, it might make you sound a bit stupid which from what you’ve told me, she thinks everyone below her is. So, this will work in our benefit.”
I tried to think if I used the word “superiority complex” or not. I doubted I did. How did Sol know she had that kind of entitlement. Sol had not once asked about her emotions, just her day-to-day life and how she lived. Not once that Sol asked about Venus ‘s emotional state or anyone’s, she just let me talk and go through my sister’s Day-to-day.
Had those actions informed her enough to make accurate assumptions? It was clear it did because she was right Venus had a superiority complex. Sol was good at reading people because she was right on the money. Venus did think she was better than everyone she liked to Lord over everyone that was for sure.
If Sol could read people that well, I knew I shouldn’t have called her out like that. Also, Sol right she was the alpha, and I did agree that she was the best leader to lead this pack. Her decisions needed to be final, and I needed to learn not second guess her commands. I had been so loyal to my sister, and now I needed to be loyal to Sol. One was better than the other.
As we were breaking apart to go to different things, she turned to me “Thank you for telling me all that. I know it probably made you uncomfortable, but I really do appreciate it, and I know you’ll be off a lot bonding with natural wolves or whatever, but I do trust you to be able to hold your own. After all you’re not a completely incompetent fighter.” she then closed the distance between us gave me a kiss almost like she was saying sorry for putting me in my place. I got the feeling that she wasn’t used to doing that but it’s something she’d have to do a lot more with everything that was coming in.
