Chapter 78
Kiara was just finishing up her work for the day when her phone rang. It was Martha, her housekeeper.
"Kiara, I'm sorry to bother you, but I need to talk to you about something important," Martha said, her voice trembling with worry.
"What's wrong, Martha? Is everything okay? how's Carlos" Kiara asked, concerned.
"It's about my son, Carlos. He's been sick for a while now, and his condition is getting worse. I'm scared, Kiara. I don't know what to do," Martha said, her voice breaking.
Kiara's heart sank as she listened to Martha's words. She knew how much her housekeeper loved her son and how worried she must be feeling right now.
"Martha, please don't worry. I'll take care of everything. I'll make sure Carlos gets the best medical care possible. Just tell me what I can do to help," Kiara said, her voice full of empathy.
"Thank you, Kiara. You're such a kind and generous person. I don't know how to thank you enough," Martha said, her voice filled with gratitude.
"You don't need to thank me, Martha. You're like family to me, and family takes care of each other. I'll call the best doctor in town and make an appointment for Carlos right away. I'll also cover all the medical expenses, so you don't have to worry about a thing," Kiara said, her tone reassuring.
Martha let out a sigh of relief. "Thank you, Kiara. You have no idea how much this means to me. I don't know what I'd do without you," she said, her voice full of emotion.
"Don't worry, Martha. I'm here for you, always. Just take care of yourself and Carlos, and let me know if you need anything else," Kiara said, her voice filled with warmth.
Martha hung up the phone, feeling a little lighter knowing that Kiara was there to help her in her time of need. Kiara, on the other hand, felt grateful for the opportunity to help someone in need and knew that her kindness and generosity would go a long way in Martha's life.

Kiara was in the middle of a busy day when her phone rang. She glanced at the caller ID and saw that it was Lucas, her ex-husband. She hesitated for a moment before reluctantly answering.
"Hello?" she said, trying to keep her tone neutral.
"Hey, Kiara," Lucas said. "I heard about Martha's son. How is he doing?"
Kiara felt a flash of irritation. Martha was her housekeeper, and her son had been sick but it was none of Lucas's business.
"That's really none of your concern, Lucas," she said coldly.
"I just thought I'd ask," he said, sounding defensive.
"Well, don't," Kiara said. "Martha's son is doing fine, and I'm taking care of everything. You don't need to worry about it."
There was a moment of awkward silence before Lucas spoke again. "Look, Kiara, I know things didn't end well between us, but I still care about you. And I care about the people in your life."
Kiara rolled her eyes. "Save it, Lucas. We've been divorced for a year now. You don't get to act like you still have a say in my life."
"Okay, fine," Lucas said, his tone resigned. "I just wanted to check in. I'll let you get back to your day."
"Goodbye, Lucas," Kiara said, and she ended the call.
She let out a deep breath and leaned back in her chair. She hated talking to Lucas. It always left her feeling irritated and frustrated. She knew he meant well, but he needed to learn to stay out of her business. She was perfectly capable of taking care of herself and the people she cared about.
The next day, Kiara arrived at the hospital and made her way to the children's ward. Martha's son, Carlos had been admitted with a high fever, and Kiara wanted to visit and offer her support to her housekeeper during this difficult time.
As she walked into the room, Kiara's heart sank. Alex was lying in the hospital bed, his little body thin and frail. Martha was sitting next to him, holding his hand and looking exhausted. Kiara could see the worry etched on her face and the sadness in her eyes.
"Martha, I'm so sorry. How is he?" Kiara asked, trying to sound as comforting as possible.
Martha looked up, surprised to see Kiara. "Oh, Kiara. Thank you for coming. He's not doing well. He has been sick for days, and the doctor can't seem to figure out what's wrong."
Kiara's heart broke for Martha and her son. She walked over to the bed and looked down at Carlos, who was sleeping soundly.
"He looks so thin, Martha. Have you been eating enough?" Kiara asked, concerned.
Martha looked away, embarrassed. "I'm doing my best, but with all the medical expenses, it's been tough to afford proper meals. Carlos' father has been away on a job for weeks now, and I've been the sole breadwinner."
Kiara couldn't believe what she was hearing. Martha had been working for her family for years, and Kiara had never once thought about her financial struggles. She took Martha's hand in hers and looked into her eyes.
"Martha, please don't hesitate to ask for help. You are part of our family, and we care about you and Carlos. We will do whatever it takes to support you through this difficult time."
Martha's eyes filled with tears, and she gave Kiara a grateful smile. "Thank you, Kiara. That means a lot to me. I've always felt like part of your family, but I didn't want to burden you with my problems."
Kiara hugged Martha tightly. "You are never a burden, Martha. We are here for you, and we will get through this together."
As Kiara left the hospital, her mind was filled with thoughts of how she could help Martha and her son. She knew that she had to do more than just offer words of support. She resolved to find a way to ease Martha's financial burden and ensure that she and Carlos had access to proper medical care and nutrition.
