Chapter 38: Take care of her
The mall was massive, and I leaned forward to take a clearer view. It was unlike anything I had seen before. I mean, I mostly just went to the thrift market on extremely rare occasions. Most times, I couldn't even afford the thrift market itself.
I gave a smile, my eyes wide as the building got closer and closer, till we finally got to a stop. I clapped my hands at the same time Angel did, and I turned to her, laughing. Maybe it didn't matter that I had never been somewhere like this, and she probably had countless times, but there was still excitement between us.
I turned to Sin to see if he shared in our excitement, but to my surprise, his eyes were focused on me.
I felt my heart do a flip, and I leaned away. "I... I was..."
He shook his head slowly, then turned away and opened the door. I watched his back as he walked out, then came around to my side of the car. He opened the door for me, then gave me his hand again, his eyes still cold.
I took in a deep breath, then accepted his hand, my fingers cold against his almost dark warmth, my body easing up. I was probably very foolish to feel so at ease around a man who has proven himself to be a killer. Twice.
And Aldo's sudden death was still under investigation. Not like I didn't believe Sin when he said he hadn't done that to Aldo, and I knew he didn't fear or care about me enough to hide it from me.
I didn't realize I had been holding his hand and just sitting in the car, till he suddenly pulled me, causing me to fall towards him, my eyes holding his steely gaze.
There was something eternally hidden behind those eyes. A treasure. A promise. A sacred vow. There was something in those eyes that threatened to ruin me.
He let go of my hand, and I swallowed as he walked away, then returned with Angel in his arms.
"Let's go."
I nodded, then fell into step beside him.
"Sir," an attendant said immediately after we entered, and Sin gave her a small nod.
"I want a complete change of wardrobe for my daughter and my wife. I want you to take her so she can choose."
"Yes, sir," she said, then turned to me, and started to direct me away.
"Not her," Sin suddenly said, his eyes meeting mine. "I will choose with her. You go with Angel."
"I apologize. I will," she said as he dropped Angel to the floor.
She was all too happy to leave with the attendant, who held her hand, while Angel hopped away, her free hand pointing to something that seemed to catch her eye.
Another attendant came to us, then smiled. "Sir, I will take her to bring some to the VIP dressing room 1, and you can watch her change into them."
Sin nodded. "Take care of her."
My lips parted a bit, the attendant's response slowly drowning away with the look he gave me. Before I could say a word, he walked away, leaving me with her.
"This way, ma'am."
I nodded, smiling a little, then followed on the path she showed me. The mall was exquisite, and I looked around, my eyes wide as I took it all in.
We soon got to the large female section. I could see that it was separated into categories. High-end designers, big-name fashion houses, bridals, shoes, bags, lingerie, makeup.
I wondered if Sin would care what I had taken. Would he be angry if I took something like... my eyes fell on the wedding dresses, and I swallowed a little, then turned away.
"Let us start with the dresses, ma'am. We will go through the sections slowly."
I knew I was in for a long day, and I looked down at the heels I was still wearing. I had no choice. I couldn't walk barefoot here when they seemed to know who Sin was. I didn't want to embarrass him.
I followed her as we walked through the aisles of dresses, each more beautiful than the rest. From formal to party dresses, there was everything. Soon, the attendant walked away and brought an empty rack, then started to move the ones I liked to them. I thought she would look at me weirdly for picking more than five dresses, but she looked disappointed at best.
"I am very sure, sir said to change your wardrobe. These are just eight dresses. Hardly even a suitcase, talk more of a wardrobe."
I swallowed. "I am not exactly sure. Maybe you should pick a few out for me."
She looked at me for a while longer, then nodded. "Do tell me if any of my selections do not quite fit."
I nodded, happy to have the job out of my hands. I simply followed behind her as she picked dresses out, her eyes darting between my body and the garments she picked. Sometimes she would change sizes, or colors, or just drop the dress altogether.
I looked up to the bridal dress section as we went to pick out shoes. She checked my sizes and then proceeded to pick them out, her eyes squinted as she searched thoroughly.
"Excuse me?" I said as we got to the last section.
This was my chance. I probably would never get anyone. This entire thing with Sin was already absurd, I don't think trying on a wedding dress would do any harm.
"I.... can I check a bridal dress?"
She turned to me, then to the section, then nodded again. "I will take this to the VIP dressing room, then come back to help you with those."
I nodded gratefully, then watched as she walked away, a smile lifting my lips, my eyes slowly turning to the section.
I wondered what Sin would think if he saw me in a wedding dress. I didn't see myself in one, ever, but at least, after these five months, I would remember the feel of wearing one.
"We can go now," the attendant suddenly said, and I nodded, then followed her, my heart thumping in my chest.
