Chapter 30: Mummy

We got into the car, and Sin sat up straight, his eyes clouded with what seemed like a mixture of hatred and helplessness. I swallowed, my fingers nipping at each other. I wasn't quite sure what to do now, knowing Larissa had aborted Sin's child only to beg him so she could keep another man's.

I slowly reached to him, then let my fingers lace in his hand that was resting on his thigh. Sin looked up, then turned to me, his lips parting lightly.

He blinked, then slowly wrapped his fingers around mine too, a sigh escaping his lips. I covered his hand with my other one, then slowly met his eyes.

"She doesn't deserve you."

He turned to me again, his eyes dark and low, his lips set in a defiant straight line. "I am not exactly sure how to feel, Annalise. I thought that after seeing everything that I had, even after having to watch the people I held the closest leave, I would be immune to everything." He met my eyes, and he didn't even need to tell me, but I could see it. His eyes held a numb blankness to them, and he seemed like he couldn't wrap his head around everything just yet.

"No one owns it to you to be immune, Sin. I think you have been gracious enough with your pain."

His eyes thinned before he slowly turned away. "You are right, Annalise. I have been far too gracious to the people who have hurt me."

My brows furrowed, but before I could say a word, he moved, removing his hand from mine. My lips parted as he grabbed his phone, just as the car started.

He turned to look at the window as we slowly drove out of the hotel premises.

"It is Sin," he said into the phone, then nodded slowly. "I want a refund on the painting I bought from the auction last night. I want it paid in full."

My hand came to my lips. How is Larissa, who had to sell fake paintings in order to scratch up money going to afford five hundred million?

"I want it in fourty eight hours. Meanwhile," he closed his eyes, then sighed. "Have Aldo be taken out of prison."

I immediately softened, my eyes taking him in. Sin may be what he is, but a father... hell, I could only imagine him as a father.

He dropped the phone and turned away, his eyes closed. I didn't say a word to him either, my fingers clasping in each other. Maybe it was due right thing to do.

That child was innocent. To be deprived of its father... that was a pain I didn't even want to talk about. I leaned back and closed my eyes, trying my best to catch some sleep before we arrived at Sin's home.

Sin's home. It was a crazy prospect to think of, and even though I was still getting used to Sin himself, I believe he was okay. Maybe unpredictable. Maybe a little dangerous, too. But we could do well for the next five months.

I let my thoughts wander before I slowly started to drift off to sleep, my eyes heavy.

I didn't realize I had fallen asleep until the rather comfortable humming of the car came to a stop. I moved, my eyes squinting, my brows furrowed.

I moved, then leaned upwards, my eyes meeting flesh. I looked up, and Sin was watching me, his eyes hooded by his lashes, his brow raised.

I looked back down. His neck was the flesh I had seen, with the tattoo peeking through the suit he was wearing.

I immediately moved backwards, my eyes wide. "I am sorry, I..." I trailed off, then took him in. "Did I drool on you?"

He raised his brow a bit higher, then turned away, his head shaking in the same fashion as a disappointed elder.

"With the amount of perfection you had going on for you, I knew there had to be something wrong." He met my eyes, and I couldn't tell if that was humour or disgust. "You would be a nightmare to sleep with."

My lips parted, but nothing came out of it. He turned away, then stepped out of the open door, his hand adjusting his suit. He stretched his hand to me, and I slowly took it, not sure if I should dwell on the fact that he thought I was perfect or that I would be a nightmare.

It's not like we plan on sleeping together, so... wait. Uh oh.

"Daddy!" came a loud squeal, and Sin immediately let go of my hand.

I wasn't even offended as I stepped out of the car and laid my feet on the grounds of the most breathtaking piece of architecture I had seen all my life.

The house was shaped, all of it, in a massive circle of glass, with an artificial fountain crashing right in the middle. I needed to stay close to Sin cause I wasn't sure how to get in or out.

I turned towards them, and Sin had covered the distance to Angel, and he was now on one knee, his arms open to her.

The girl, probably around five, with a vibrant light brown hair and brown eyes that had narrowed to slits from how hard she was smiling, bounded off to him, her little hands wrapping around him, her giggles filling the air.

I smiled, my eyes filled with adoration as Sin hugged her, his fingers patting her hair. She was nothing like him. It would be obvious one day when she grew up, and she looked in his eyes and the mirror, and she would demand the truth regarding her birth. I just hoped that when that day came, she and Sin would be able to fight through it.

"Angel," I said, stepping towards them, putting on my best smile.

She turned to me, and Sin turned to me too, his eyes squinted against the sun.

"Are you my new mummy?"

I smiled, then went right on my knees, my arms spreading out for her. "Would you like that?"

She turned to Sin, who gave her a nod, his smile small. Slowly, she walked to me, then gently wrapped her hands around my neck, abandoning the tablet she had been holding.

"Mummy," she said, her voice low, and something told me I would have a very hard time leaving this girl by the time my time with them is up.
