Chapter 31: Real trouble

Angel slowly released me, her eyes taking me in. "What's your name?"

"Annalise," I said, adjusting her dress. "But you can call me Anna, sweetie."

"I prefer mummy," she said defiantly.

Sin gave a small chuckle, and I turned to him, lucky enough to catch it before it disappeared. He had a small dimple and extra pointed canines that added allure to his genuine smile. It made me realize just how extra wicked his other smiles had been. There had been nothing pure about them.

"Sure," I said, turning back to her. "You can call me whatever you want."

She smiled again, then walked to Sin. He immediately took her in his arms, his voice low and tender. It was increasingly difficult to connect the Sin at the auction to the Sin right here on his knees for his daughter.

"The nanny can't make the twisted toasts you make for me, Daddy."

He smiled. "So you only missed my toasts and not me?"

She gave a guilty giggle, and he pulled her cheek gently, making her giggle even more. Slowly, he took her in his arm, then balanced her on his right hand as she wrapped her hands around him again.

He stood up, then turned to me, his back to the sun, his eyes squinted as he slowly gave me his hand.

I looked up, my lips parting a little as I looked between him and his hand. Even Angel was staring at me, and I moved, taking his hand. He immediately wrapped his hand around me, then pulled me to him, my balance failing me as I crashed on him, my hand instinctively resting on his chest.

I could feel the subtle beat of his heart, and I felt a lump rise in my throat as I slowly met his eyes. I wasn't sure what he was thinking, but he held me spellbound on my feet, my mind completely blank.

Slowly, he moved, then turned away, his hand still holding mine. From a distance, we looked like the perfect family. From up close, I am a contract wife, Angel wasn't really Sin's child, and Sin was... well, Sin. Whoever thought of naming him Sin did a great job because that man... he is Sin.

Not just in how casually evil he could be or his aesthetics of black, guns, cigarettes, and tattoos, but in the way he made me feel. I had never felt conscious of how much of a woman I was till I was in his presence, his gaze upon me. I feel like he had the capability to make any woman feel maddening desire pulsating deep within her blood. His ex-wife included.

When I thought about it, it honestly didn't make sense. She still looked completely needful of Sin, especially that very first time I had met her at the reception. She barely ever looked at her husband, and when she did, there wasn't half the naked desire in her eyes as when she looked at Sin.

I shook my head as we got to the door that was opened by a man wearing a crisp white shirt and a waist jacket.

"You are welcome, Sin."

Sin nodded, then looked up, his eyes squinting. "Where is the nanny?"

"She is upstairs arranging Angel's room, Sir. Is something wrong?"

Sin nodded. "I am going to the shower, and I will be back to make toasts. Settle her for the next three months and see her out before I return."

"Yes, Sir," the man said, then looked at me. "Is this the new nanny, Sir? Do I show her where..."

"Are your eyes for decor or your brain is? Is she dressed like a nanny?"

Angel started to laugh, and I couldn't help my chuckle, too.

"I apologize, Sir."

Sin turned away, then continued on his way around the house, his eyes examining everything. He was still holding my hand, and I took the chance to take in the mansion. From every place in the house, as long as you stand by a window, you will be able to see a waterfall. I could imagine cooking in a kitchen that big, with the soothing sound of water and the view of the water colored a vibrant orange by the sunset.

"Angel?"

She turned to him, then squeezed his cheeks in her tiny hands.

He ignored it, like he was used to it. "I am going up with mummy, okay? I will be back, and we can get your new doll house, okay?"

Angel nodded, and he set her down finally.

"But why won't you leave mummy?"

"She has to..."

"It is like when that man comes over and he and the nanny go to my room, Daddy. I don't even play with my toys, and they keep making my room smell."

Sin's brows furrowed. Oh, this nanny is about to be in real trouble. "What?"

"The nanny. And that man. They always do things that the man told me was adult stuff, and that is how I..."

Sin drew back, his eyes wide as I leaned to Angel, cupping her face.

"Angel," I said, turning to Sin, who looked about to lose his mind. He suddenly turned away, his steps brisk.

"Wait here, okay?"

She nodded obediently, despite her obvious confusion, and I followed behind Sin as fast as I could. He was climbing stairs after stairs, and soon, we got to the top floor.

"Sin," I said, grabbing his hand before he opened the door. From the aesthetics, the large pink flower, and the pink name plate on the door, I could tell it was Angel's room. "Do you think Dante would be here?"

He swallowed. "Let's hope, for their sake, that he isn't."

He turned the knob and opened the door, then stepped in, his eyes taking in the room. It was empty, but I could hear the sound of the shower.

Sin obviously heard it too as he turned towards the shower, his fists clenching hard as he walked towards it.

He knocked the door down with his foot, and the first thing I saw was that the shower cubicle was wide open with no one in it. It was probably just a distraction.

Sin walked out, then turned towards the walk-in closet. Its door was locked, and opaque from outside.

Slowly, Sin walked into the closet, and right in the arrays of Angel's clothes, were two people. The woman was bent over, and the man was behind her, both completely naked.
