CHAPTER 155

CHAPTER 155
Ciel tries to take Xerxes' advice and packs his bags, taking enough but there's this nagging feeling at the back of his head that he can't pinpoint and there's a pang in his chest that has taken residence.

Something is wrong. He can feel it in his bones.

He can't help it as he immediately stops shoving clothes into his suitcase and rises to his feet. Maybe it's because he doesn't want to leave Or maybe it's because he's going to live in an even more foreign and unfamiliar place than this and he's barely getting used to the people here and now he's already moving to another country.

Ciel pouts. Maybe he can still talk Xerxes into changing his mind.

With a determined nod, he leaves his room and heads towards Xerxes's bedroom.

The hallway feels longer than usual as his bare feet pads quickly on the cold floor and then he rounds the corner to Xerxes bedroom.

He brings his hand up to knock on the door but it cracks open instead and slowly, he pushes it wider, the name of the man on his tongue already but instead, he instantly freezes and his eyes widens.

“Xerxes?” his voice is barely above a whisper as he takes an hesitant step into the massive room.

There, on the floor, is Xerxes, pale like a ghost and, blood on his lips and on the floor.

Ciel's heart stops for a second and then it drops to his stomach before he lets out a loud scream. “XERXES!!”

Instantly, he's rushing to his side. He drops to the floor so fast his knees hit it hard.

“No, no, no, Xerxes!”

He was okay a few minutes ago. How did he become like this? Ciel pulls Xerxes into his arms, shaking him lightly, hoping to get a reaction. “Hey! Wake up! Please! Open your eyes, Xerxes!”

He waits but there is no response, he is met with the coldness of Xerxes's features and his skin.

Ciel taps his cheeks till his own hands start to tremble and tears stings painfully in his eyes.

“No, no… don’t do this. Don’t leave me like this. I don’t even remember you yet, but I know I don’t want to lose you. Please, wake up,” he lets out a desperate cry but he still gets no response from the older man, he lays in Ciel's arm and with no heartbeats to even indicate that he's still alive and then in a much louder voice, Ciel clamors.

“SOMEONE HELP! PLEASE!”

~~

Ciel paces from one end to the other at the hospital. It's been almost an hour since they arrived and Xerxes has been rushed to the emergency room and the doctors aren't out yet.

What is taking them so long? Xerxes can't be dead, is he?

Ciel immediately shakes his head to get rid of the negative thoughts and clasps his hands together and sends a silent prayer.

Xerxes is going to be fine, he looks like a strong man. He can't leave Ciel yet. His brain might not remember but his heart won't be able to take it.

“Ciel,”

Ciel immediately snaps his head at the sound of his name, he sees a woman standing in front of him, her eyes hard and her clothes formal.

“W-who are you?”

She frowns at the question, then lets out a sigh. “I didn't know your accident was this bad. I am Xerxes mother, Mrs. Laurent,”

“Xerxes's mother?” Ciel repeats the words, then he takes another scan of the woman. She doesn't look worried one bit, she looks composed and almost unbothered that her son is in the emergency room. Ciel almost doubts she is his mother but there's a slight resemblance that can't be missed. “The doctor hasn't come out yet,” he informs her but she shakes her head.

“I know Xerxes has been rushed into the emergency room, he won't want to see me here after what happened last time that some what caused your accident but I am not here for him today, I am here for you, Ciel,”

Ciel takes a step back, then he looks around, once he confirms they are not the only ones there, he looks back at the woman. “Me?”

“Yes, I'm here because I want to talk about Tina, this is the only opportunity I get to talk to you about this before Sebastian shows up here and takes me away for good,”

“Tina? Who's Tina?”

Again, she lets out a tired sigh. “Tina was a maid who worked for Xerxes and she is pregnant with Xerxes's child,”

Ciel's heart suddenly beats in his ears. Pregnant? Xerxes child?

“Now, before you jump to conclusions, Xerxes had nothing to do with it. Her means was selfish and desperate but I won't watch an innocent child die because of the sins of his mother.” She closes in on Ciel. “Xerxes is dying Ciel, he doesn't have much time to live and this child will be his legacy,”

Ciel's mouth opens and closes like a fish. “What?”

Mrs. Laurent’s gaze settles sharply. “Xerxes is dying, Ciel, and that child… is the only legacy he has left. I don’t care what Tina did to get pregnant,” she continues, voice hardening. “It doesn’t matter anymore. The child is his. It's innocent, and it must be saved.”

Ciel shakes his head, stunned. “You can’t be serious-”

“I’m dead serious,” she cuts in. “Xerxes has no chances of having children because he's gay, which will leave his legacy with no heirs. That baby is all he's got. You must protect it.”

“Why me?”

“Because you won't watch an innocent child be killed.” She steps back, then straightens her coat. “Do what you want with Tina but don’t let the sins of the mother stain the life of the innocent. This child was conceived the same way you were conceived, you should understand better,”

And with that, she walks away without another word, her heels clicking sharply against the hospital tiles while Ciel stands frozen, chest tightening and mind reeling with the weight of her words. What the hell just happened?

“Ciel.”

He turns and sees Sebastian. “She didn't hurt you, did she?” the man's dark eyes scans him over.

Ciel shakes his head. “Sebastian,”he calls quietly. “Tell me about Tina?”

Sebastian’s jaw tightens. “She was a maid.”

“And?”

“She drugged Xerxes,” he says flatly. “Assaulted him while he was unconscious. She planned it all to get pregnant with his child or so she claims.”

Ciel swallows down the lump in his throat. “Where is she now?”

Sebastian exhales. “Locked up. Xerxes gave strict orders. No one was allowed to deal with her until he decides what to do.”

“And what is he going to do?” Ciel asks, though he already fears the answer.

Sebastian meets his eyes. “He wants her gone.”

Ciel’s throat dries. “I want to see her.”

Sebastian arches a brow. “Why?”

“I need to see for myself,” Ciel says. “I want to hear it from her. I want to look into her eyes and know why she did it. I won't care what he does to her after,”
