Chapter 78 Seventy eight

Chapter 78 Seventy eight
Luna PoV

I had never been as afraid of silence in my entire life as I was right now, the various vampires of the room now all staring at ME; some in anger, others in awe, but most of them in confusion. I couldn’t help but stare at them through my lashes, I needed to know if they made a move against me, if I were to die, I wanted to see it coming. I wanted to be prepared for the final blow.

“Does ANYONE have any questions?” Silas asked the room, breaking the silence.

“But a sunlight witch? You have not only broken the law by not killing her, but you have given her a life of luxury in YOUR castle.” Bellowed Victoria, each word ending in a vicious growl.

With my eyes no longer focused on the floor I could see the features of the female vampire who seemed to have so much hate for me and what I was, her muddy brown hair in a shortened bob that only just past her ears. She had deep hazel eyes that echoed with hatred, and I could somehow tell that it wasn’t an unjustified hate for my kind, something had caused it; something that perhaps developed over hundreds of years. She was tall and slender, and yet you could see the muscles hiding just below the emerald silk of her extraordinary gown.

“She should have been killed on sight!” exclaimed another voice, and I turned towards it, the male vampire having almost the same features as Victoria; only he was rather plump, and his face was partially covered by an unkept beard.

Suddenly many of the vampires stood from their seats, turning towards me in fury with their fangs pressing into their bottom lips. Silas stood mimicking their aggressiveness as he moved to block me from the reach of the undead creatures. Vincent was suddenly beside me, he had moved faster than the blink of an eye to get between me and them, and before I knew it, I was on my feet and behind the male Phantomhive. Silas didn’t seem to be paying attention to either Vincent or myself, his face hard and unrecognisable. He had more than likely expected my friend to jump to my aid as I had to his, knowing just as I did that, he would protect me should the need arise.

With a roar and a snarl Silas spoke; “ENOUGH!” Nobody dared to move. Nobody dared blink. One sudden action and the Prince would kill them all. Allies or not. “I have given her sanctuary here, not because I believe we are equals, but rather that she will be an important piece in the coming war, I am certain of it.” he paused moving to take his seat as the others did the same, reigning in their temper but still watching me with hatred and confusion. “She will be an asset to us, yes, my father had banished and killed what he believed was the last of her kind. But Luna here is an anomaly. One that I believe we will be able to mould as our own.”

The light-hearted female who sat next to Victoria spoke in a calm and yet, unsure voice; “Sunlight witches are known for their treachery my Prince, they are not known for their loyalty to our kind. I am not saying that she wouldn’t aid us, because with her sunlight power alone, she is more valuable than any slave in our position. But you mentioned she is also a shifter?” she paused, waiting for the prince to respond and then continued once he nodded. “I see, shifters are also known to be rebellious and easy swayed away from their master. I can't help but wonder if she is an impressionable as you say, is it worth the risk?”

I realised the woman’s name was Kanata, and that meant she was Victoria Astaroth's wife, her dark brown/black hair just passing the base of her back and the under-frame glasses perched on the edge of her nose as she watched me from where I hid behind Vincent.

I couldn’t wait to get away from here one day.

My petite form trembled in fear as I peeked round the bulking form that protected me, I was much smaller than anyone present, much weaker, and well; much more mortal. Did they really think that I would rebel? That I would run off and join one of their enemies, the Phantomhive bitch Elizabeth had already attempted to make me submit, but I had refused, taking the brunt of her anger.

“You ask reasonable questions, and as always, you keep a level mind Kanata. Believe me when I say I will help you, all of you to ease those worries and suspicions.” He stopped for a moment and turned towards where I was hidden, his voice no longer pleasant as it took a harsh and commanding turn. “Luna, come to me.”

I froze panic swelling in my chest, he wanted me to go to him now. All of them were watching, reading to strike me down with one twitch of their hands. I was terrified, I didn't want them to see me, inspect me to see if I was worthy of my life. I clung onto the back of Vincents shirt, silently hoping, and pleading with Silas in my mind not to let them hurt me. I didn’t know what to do, I could prove them right and ignore his order, or I could obey and be completely exposed.

Apparently, I had taken too long to decide, the voice I recognised as belonging to a vampire called Remus Griswold rippling through the silence. “As Mrs Astaroth said, they do not obey orders. We should dispose of her now.”

I glanced at him from behind my protector, taking in his every feature as murmurs of agreement rose around the large table. He had luminous ginger hair; his greenish blue eyes filled with the same hatred I saw in Victoria’s. He seemed to be smaller than most vampires that I had seen, with no visible muscles, but that didn’t mean I could underestimate him, he was a vampire after all.

“She is not being disobedient, she is simply hesitating because she is afraid, she is in my mind at this very moment begging me not to parade her in front of you all.” Silas replied with a slight laugh, informing the room of another ability I wasn’t supposed to have.

“What do you mean? Are you telling us a WITCH can hold a mind-link with our kind?!” Exploded Victoria, jumping to her feet, only to be pushed back down by her wife.

Vincent spoke for the second time, his voice even and yet powerful. “Yes, and it isn't just the prince, she was able to send messages to me with her mind whilst I was dying from diamond poisoning.”

“This is unheard of, never has such a thing be possible. She could know all our secrets and share them with others of her kind!” Growled Remus, shaking his head as he tried to remain calm, though the tone of his voice exposed the anger he felt.

“The easiest thing would be to show you, all of you.” Sighed the Prince as he pinched the bridge of his nose, slowly losing his temper. “Luna, do NOT make me ask again, if you don’t come here in the next three seconds, I will allow each one of them to decide your fate.”

He’s giving me no choice.
