Chapter 59

Chapter 59

"Andrew, could you get me a glass of ice water?" I really wanted something cold to drink right now.

"Sure." In no time, Andrew brought me a glass of ice water.

I took the glass and sipped slowly, feeling slightly better.

Andrew looked at me, his worried expression only deepening. "Should I get a doctor to check on you?"

"No need, I'll be fine after I go back and rest." I shook my head, too tired to talk much.

Andrew was about to say something when James suddenly walked in, looking at him coldly. "I'll take her back to rest."

Andrew immediately became alert and stood in front of me. "I'll take her back, no need to trouble you."

"She's my wife. Taking care of her is my responsibility. No need for an outsider like you to interfere." James's voice was cold and low, his whole presence intimidating. The burning sensation in his body made him especially irritable.

"I don't trust someone who always sides with outsiders to take care of her."

The two men were at each other's throats, and the atmosphere instantly became tense.

Looking at them, I felt annoyed. My physical discomfort left me with no patience to watch them argue. I couldn't help but speak up, "Stop fighting!"

"Andrew, please take me to the hospital."

James's face was unusually flushed right now. He must have been affected by that drug too.

Although I really didn't like going to the hospital, compared to going with the dangerous James, the hospital was safer.

Andrew was about to help me up when James pushed him aside, picked me up, and quickly carried me out of the banquet hall.

He put me in the car and told the driver to hurry.

When we got to the Smith Mansion, he couldn't wait to carry me back to the room, put me on the bed, and pressed down to kiss me.

I slapped James across the face. "James, calm down!"

James's face turned to the side from the slap. He slowly turned back, his tongue pressing against his cheek. "Why did you want to leave with Andrew just now? Don't you know what kind of drug you took?"

I couldn't help but frown. "It's exactly because I knew what drug I took that I wanted to leave with him."

James grabbed my chin. "You wanted Andrew to be your cure? Dream on!"

"You're my woman. Even if we're divorced, you're still mine. I won't allow anyone to touch you."

"You're crazy, let go of me!" I struggled to push him away, but I had no strength. The burning sensation in my body made me weak all over.

James held me down firmly, his eyes full of dominance and possessiveness. "Sophia, we've both been drugged. Do you think you can get away?"

"So what? Even if I've been drugged, I don't want anything to do with you!" I said through gritted teeth. My physical discomfort and inner disgust made me especially emotional.

James looked at me, his pupils full of anger.

He suppressed his rage and questioned me, "Sophia, tell me honestly, have you already slept with that Andrew?"

I bit my lip. "What?"

"Who satisfies you more, him or me?"

I was so angry I wanted to hit him again, but he caught my hand.

James smirked. "I've really spoiled you, letting you defy me again and again."

I laughed coldly, deliberately trying to provoke him. "James, so what if I slept with Andrew? What right do you have to control me?"

"Come to think of it, Andrew is as gentle in bed as he is as a person. He considers my feelings, unlike you, you beast..."

Who only cares about your own pleasure.

I didn't finish the last part because James grabbed my neck.

"Sophia, you're asking for it!"

"We're not even divorced yet, and you're so eager to sleep with another man. Haven't I satisfied you?"

"Since you're so desperate, I'll satisfy you completely today."

I was shaking with anger and forcefully pulled my hand free, slapping him hard. "James, you're such a bastard!"

"You think everyone in the world is an animal like you? With nothing in your head except that one thing."

James didn't dodge. His deep blue eyes stared straight at me, with some excitement showing in them, like a beast finding its favorite prey.

I glared at him coldly, warning him, "James, don't touch me! Or I'll take you down with me."

I had nothing to lose anyway. Having James die with me wouldn't be a bad deal.

James stared at me, his eyes dark and fierce.

My heart was in my throat, my body tense.

If James dared to do anything, I would fight with everything I had to show him I wasn't someone to mess with.

I glared at him with all my might, confronting him.

I don't know how long passed, but he received a phone call. His brows furrowed high, and he looked at me deeply. Then he stood up, walked toward the door, slammed it hard, and left the room.

I could pretty much guess who the call was from, and my eyes instantly dimmed.

From James's perspective:

Amelia specifically asked to see me. I didn't want to go, but she mentioned what happened back then.

If it weren't for her back then, I wouldn't even know if I'd be alive or dead now.

I suppressed my irritation and went to see her. "What else do you have to say?"

Amelia was crying her eyes out. "James, can you get me out of here? For the sake of how I helped you when we were kids, please help me again."

"You crossed my line." I refused firmly.

She shouldn't have hurt Sophia.

Amelia's eyes widened, and she said hysterically, "James, if you hadn't come back, I wouldn't have had the chance to be with Jasper, he wouldn't have died, and I wouldn't have become a laughingstock after losing him."

"I became like this, and you're partly responsible!"

Watching her give up on herself, I was silent for a few minutes before saying quietly, "Amelia, this is the last time. It's for Jasper's sake, and also for the sake of you saving me."

After saying that, I turned and left, completely unaware of the scheming and dark gleam that flashed in her eyes.

And when the truth came to light, I regretted it so much I wanted to kill her and myself.

I made my decision, met with Amelia's cousin, and agreed to give him a sum of money to take all the blame.

I used both carrot and stick, and he finally agreed. Amelia was released without charges. She was covered in injuries and very scared, crying while hugging me.

I had been drugged and was already uncomfortable. The more she rubbed against me, the more uncomfortable I became.

"James, are you still feeling bad? Let me help you." Amelia took the initiative to kiss me.

Just as we were about to kiss, Sophia's image popped into my head. I immediately pushed Amelia away, went to the bathroom in the hospital room, turned on the faucet, and took a cold shower directly to ease the drug's effects and force myself to stay clear-headed.

I thought about how Sophia's drug hadn't been resolved either and wanted to go back, but Amelia held me back. "James, don't go. I'm scared. Please."

I could only stay here, but I was very worried about Sophia.

I took cold showers on and off throughout the night while taking care of Amelia. I was exhausted. Suddenly I thought of Sophia—when she took care of me when I was drunk before, was she this tired too?

Thinking of Sophia, the burning desire in me rose again, and I went into the bathroom once more.

As dawn broke, the drug in my system finally wore off completely, and Amelia had fallen asleep.

At this moment, I just wanted to hurry back to see Sophia.
