Shields of Deception: When Justice Wears a Mask

Twenty-two-year-old Ethan Blackwood never wanted to be a soldier. As the son of a minor lord in the peaceful border town of Ashford, he dreamed of becoming a scholar and living a quiet life with books and maps. But when orc tribes suddenly attack the human kingdom of Valornia, Ethan is forced to join the army as a knight. On the battlefield, he expects to fight monsters. Instead, he finds himself falling for one. Kiera Stoneheart is an orc commander with fire-red hair and a warrior's spirit. She's fierce, brilliant, and nothing like the savage beasts the human propaganda describes. When Ethan captures her during a raid, he discovers something terrifying: the orcs didn't start this war. A powerful faction within the human kingdom called the Silver Covenant is using the conflict to grab power and destroy anyone who questions them. Now Ethan must choose between his loyalty to his people and the truth he's uncovered. As he and Kiera work together to expose the conspiracy, their hatred turns to respect, then friendship, and finally to a love that could cost them everything. Because in a world where humans and orcs are supposed to be enemies, falling in love with the other side isn't just forbidden—it's treason punishable by death. With assassins hunting them, his best friend turning against him, and the fate of two races hanging in the balance, Ethan must decide: will he be the hero who saves his kingdom, or the traitor who destroys it? And can love truly conquer hate when the entire world is built on lies?
