Chapter 104: The Center of the Storm
Chapter 104: The Center of the Storm
"I'm tired of fighting you, Snowflake," he murmured, his voice a vibration against her lips.
He didn't wait for her to answer. He claimed her mouth in a kiss that was nothing like the ones before. This wasn't a punishment or a test; it was a hungry, desperate confession. It tasted of salt and possessiveness, his tongue sweeping against hers with a raw demand that made Isla’s knees buckle.
She reached up, her fingers tangling in the dark hair at the nape of his neck, pulling him closer. A small, broken moan escaped her throat, and the sound seemed to snap the last thread of Lorenzo’s control.
He lifted her effortlessly, her legs instinctively hooking around his waist. He carried her the short distance to the massive bed, the charcoal silk sheets cool against her back as he lowered her down. But he didn't pull away. He hovered over her, his weight a comforting pressure, his eyes dark with a hunger that felt like it could consume them both.
"Lorenzo," she whispered, her breath hitching as his hand traveled up the line of her thigh, pushing the torn hem of her sundress out of the way.
"You're so beautiful when you're not trying to run," he growled, his lips tracing the sensitive line of her throat. He found the spot right behind her ear, nipping at the skin until she arched against him, her back curving off the mattress.
His hands were everywhere—mapping her skin as if he were trying to memorize every curve, every scar, every inch of the woman who had dared to save him. He stripped away the ruined blue dress, his gaze smoldering as he took her in.
"Mine," he whispered, his thumb grazing the peak of her breast. "Every heartbeat. Every breath."
When he moved to rid himself of his shirt and trousers, Isla watched him through heavy-lidded eyes. The moonlight through the glass wall illuminated the intricate ink of his tattoos and the jagged scars of a life lived in violence. He looked like a fallen god, beautiful and terrifying.
He returned to her, his skin hot against hers. The friction of his body was a revelation. He moved between her legs, his hands pinning her wrists above her head—not to hurt her, but to hold her still as he worshiped her with his mouth.
"Please," Isla gasped, her head tossing back against the pillows. "Lorenzo, please."
"Tell me what you want, Isla," he commanded, his voice a low, rough growl against her skin. "Tell me you're not running."
"I'm stayng," she sobbed, her fingers lacing through his. "I'm staying... with you."
The admission was the final key. He moved into her with a slow, agonizing slide that drew a sharp cry of pleasure from her lips. He filled her completely, a physical manifestation of the ownership he had claimed since the moment they met.
The rhythm was frantic, a storm of their own making. Lorenzo moved with a desperate power, his breath coming in ragged gasps against her neck. Isla met him move for move, her body humming with a pleasure so intense it felt like it might shatter her.
As the world dissolved into a blur of heat and silk, Lorenzo buried his face in the crook of her neck, his voice a strained whisper as he reached his peak. "Isla... stay..."
In the quiet aftermath, the only sound was the rhythmic crash of the waves against the cliffs below. Lorenzo didn't move; he stayed draped over her, his heart thudding against hers in a matching cadence. He eventually rolled to the side, pulling her firmly against his chest, her back to his front, his arm a heavy, protective bar across her waist.
"Sleep," he murmured into her hair, his voice thick with a rare, soft exhaustion.
——
The transition from the heat of the previous night to the clinical, sun-drenched reality of the morning was jarring. The master suite was flooded with golden light, the floor-to-ceiling glass reflecting the sparkling turquoise of the Mediterranean.
Isla shifted beneath the charcoal silk sheets, her body aching in places she hadn't felt before—a physical map of Lorenzo’s possession. The other side of the bed was cold, the pillows smoothed over as if he hadn't spent the night holding her like his life depended on it.
She sat up slowly, clutching the sheet to her chest. Her ruined blue dress was gone, replaced by a thick, white silk robe draped over the foot of the bed.
Across the room, near the balcony doors, Lorenzo was already dressed in a crisp black shirt, the sleeves rolled up to reveal the dark ink on his forearms. He was sitting in a leather armchair, a magazine in his hand, looking as if the storm of the previous night had never happened.
He looked up, his steel-gray eyes locking onto hers.
“You’re awake,” he said. He didn't smile, but the sharp, lethal edge of his gaze was tempered by something softer—a lingering ghost of the man who had whispered stay into her hair.
He dropped the magazine onto the side table with a light thud and stood up. He walked toward her, his movements fluid and predatory, yet there was no threat in his stride. He stopped at the edge of the bed and reached for the rolling mahogany breakfast tray that had been waiting nearby.
“Eat,” he said. He moved the table of food closer, sliding it over her lap so she was pinned beneath the weight of his care.
The spread was lavish—freshly baked bread that filled the room with a warm, yeasty scent, exotic fruits sliced with surgical precision, and a pot of dark, steaming coffee.
Isla looked at the food, then up at him. “Where’s the staff?”
“I sent them away,” Lorenzo said, his voice a low rumble. “I didn’t want anyone else in this room today.”
He reached out, his fingers brushing a stray lock of hair behind her ear. His touch was lingering, a silent reminder of the brand he had placed on her.
“Is this the part where the cage door locks again?” Isla asked, her voice quiet but steady.
Lorenzo leaned down, his face inches from hers. The scent of him—expensive soap and that darker, dangerous cologne—invaded her senses.
“The door isn't locked, Isla,” he murmured, his gaze dropping to her lips. “But after last night, we both know you aren't going to try and open it. You've already said you'll stay with me from now on”
He straightened up, his expression returning to that of the untouchable Don. “Eat your breakfast.”
