Chapter 244
"Sebastian, I get that you're doing this for my own good, but I'm worried about you too."
Seeing his refusal, Amara grew anxious. "Besides, Mira isn't really used to the Jones Villa either. She's worried about you too. When she found out I was coming today, she wanted to come along but was afraid you'd be upset."
Sebastian finished his soup in a few gulps and looked at her with a cold, indifferent gaze. "You came all this way just to tell me that?"
Amara felt a pang of guilt under his stare. "I..."
She wasn't stupid. Sebastian had sent Mira over under the guise of taking care of her, but it was really to keep an eye on her.
Mira clearly understood his intentions and kept tabs on her every move.
With Mira watching her so closely, Amara couldn't find any opportunity to act, not even to get any news about Gloria's whereabouts.
Sebastian put down his bowl and gave her a cold glance. "If she's not comfortable, let Mira go back to Windsor Manor."
Amara's heart tightened. "What did you say? Isn't Mira your person?"
Her voice betrayed her unease.
Sebastian's deep gaze lingered on her face before quickly shifting away. "I don't need so many people taking care of me. Starting tomorrow, all the servants in the villa will be dismissed. Mira was originally from Windsor Manor. If you're not used to her, let her go back."
Amara was even more shocked and couldn't help but glance at the servants standing nearby.
The Jones family wasn't as prestigious as the Windsor family, but they had no shortage of servants.
She didn't see any problem with the number of servants at Windsor Villa. In fact, many of them were familiar faces from Windsor Manor.
She had been secretly getting information about Sebastian's movements from these people.
If Sebastian dismissed them all, how would she get any news about him in the future?
"Sebastian, at least keep one or two," she pleaded, unwilling to give up.
Sebastian's voice was firm. "I have my own considerations."
Amara understood his meaning. Even if he kept a few, he wouldn't let her know who they were.
If he kept those who were unfriendly to her, she would have no choice but to accept it.
She shot a warning glance at a few of them.
Seeing Sebastian heading to the sofa, Amara quickly followed.
Sebastian noticed she had more to say. "Anything else?"
Amara's face showed concern as she cautiously asked, "Sebastian, any news about Ms. Russell?"
Sebastian narrowed his eyes. "You're very concerned about her?"
His gaze was more intense than before.
Under his scrutiny, Amara struggled to maintain her composure but managed to hold on. "Ms. Russell isn't as bad as people online say. What happened three years ago was just a moment of impulse. I don't know how that night's events got out, but I was in a bad state then. I should have spoken up for her immediately when I saw the public opinion. If I had, those people wouldn't have caused a scene at the hospital, and Ms. Russell wouldn't be missing. These days, I can't sleep well thinking about her. I'm really worried."
Amara's face was full of sincerity, as if she was genuinely concerned about Gloria.
But when she lowered her head, a cold glint flashed in her eyes.
If Sebastian found Gloria before she did, who knew if that woman would tell him everything was her doing?
Amara couldn't let that happen.
She had to find Gloria before Sebastian and silence her, but she hadn't been able to find any trace of her.
Even Nathan's people hadn't found her, so Amara had come to test Sebastian.
Even if she found out Sebastian hadn't found Gloria, it would give her some peace of mind.
Sebastian's eyes scrutinized her.
Amara's palms were almost bleeding from her nails digging in, but she kept her expression steady.
After a long pause, Sebastian's deep voice broke the silence. "I'm still looking."
Amara secretly breathed a sigh of relief, her expression growing more worried. "It's all my fault. I knew those people were attacking her because of me, but I didn't speak up for her right away. I don't know how she's doing now. Sebastian, if you hear anything about her, please let me know. I want to apologize to her in person."
Sebastian didn't respond.
Having gotten the answer she wanted, Amara didn't linger and soon took her leave.
Sebastian escorted her to the door and watched her leave.
Lucas followed respectfully behind him. "Mr. Windsor, were you serious about dismissing the servants?"
With Mira gone these days, Lucas had been busier than Sebastian, handling both his duties and the villa's affairs.
Sebastian's face was cold. "It's long overdue."
Lucas, sensing his mood, respectfully agreed.
Gloria knew nothing about what was happening between them.
Because of what Gavin said yesterday, she hadn't slept well. Every time she closed her eyes, she saw scenes from her time at the Miller Group.
She had to admit, the Miller Group was highly regarded by domestic designers for a reason.
Each designer at the Miller Group was capable of working independently. Despite some having high opinions of themselves, the overall environment was very conducive for designers.
Though Gloria hadn't officially joined any projects yet, she had already experienced the Miller Group's work environment.
There was no place better suited for her talents than the Miller Group.
She thought about it until dawn.
Finally, she made up her mind, got up early, and got ready.
At the entrance of her apartment complex, Gavin's car was parked outside.
When Gloria came out, Gavin was leaning against the car, smoking.
Seeing her, he stubbed out his cigarette and waved the smoke away before standing up straight.
"I knew you wouldn't let me down."
Gloria smiled. "Thanks for talking to me yesterday and giving me advice."
Gavin, ever the gentleman, opened the car door for her. After she got in, he walked around to the driver's side and started the car.
"I just said what I thought. The decision was yours." As he spoke, his gaze casually swept over her face.
Despite his words, he wasn't as relaxed as he appeared.
From their interactions, he had come to understand Gloria's temperament.
If she had really left the Miller Group yesterday, Gavin was sure they wouldn't have any further contact.
Even if he persistently sought her out, Gloria wouldn't let their relationship change.
