I’m chasing the Enchantress all over the woods. I can tell she is heading towards the battlefield. She wants to give everyone a show then so be it. I’m pretty sure everyone would love to watch the Enchantress go down. Right now, the Enchantress is enjoying playing tag it would seem. She keeps teleporting to different places, so I can only get a few hits in.
Like I thought we ended up in the middle of the damn battlefield. The battle is all around us. I see Kyndle in her phoenix form flying around breathing fire on the Enchantress’s army. I hear gunshots which I assume are coming from Carter. I can’t really see specific members of my team other than Kyndle, she isn’t hard to miss, after all she is a giant ass red bird flying in the sky.
The Enchantress turns to face me.
“You really think you can defeat me?” She’s taunting me.
“I know I can.”
“You haven’t been able to in the past. What has changed?”
“That’s for me to know and for you to find out. It wouldn’t be smart of me to give away my secrets now would it. I’m done playing games with you. No more running, no more chasing, let's end this.”
“As you wish.”
The Enchantress gives me a sick smile. She turns in a circle, and then she is in her dragon form. The Enchantress thinks she is clever, but she has already played this card. This time I’m prepared for her. I’m ready to fight. Before I was scared, irrational, and just angry, but now I’m truly ready to face the Enchantress. I’m ready to do what I have to do. I’m not afraid of the monster within me.
I take a deep breath, close my eyes, and release the monster within. I feel my body change, the bones cracking, the muscles stretching, I have to be torn apart in order for my body to reform into my dragon form. I embrace the pain, I let it overtake my body, I’m not scared, I’m ready for this.
When I open my eyes, I’m in dragon form. I can see so clearly; everything is in sharp focus like I just put on the best glasses in the world. The Enchantress’s mouth drops just a little, which is hilarious. Two can play this game, and I’m not the person to play it with.
“Well, that’s new,” I hear Alice say from the battlefield.
The battle has stopped because everyone wanted to look at the Enchantress and me. I can’t blame them. I'm sure it must be fascinating to see two dragons on the battlefield. It’s not every day you get to see a damn dragon let alone two dragons.
Now it’s a staring contest between the Enchantress and me. It would seem neither of us wants to make the first move. I’m surprised the Enchantress isn’t trying to take me out. I think she realizes the game has changed, and that she doesn’t have the advantage she originally thought she did. If she won’t make the first move, then I will. My patience is worn out, I’m done, this needs to be over.
I let out a fierce roar and then charged at the Enchantress. She is so thrown off guard that I’m able to tackle her to the ground. I’m ready to win. No more games it’s over with. The Enchantress tries to push me off her, but I’m not letting her toss me off. We end up rolling around on the ground. We must look ridiculous, two giant ass dragons rolling around on the ground like two school kids who got into a fight at recess.
The Enchantress manages to break free of my grip. We both stand up to our full height, she is taller than me, but I don’t care. The Enchantress breathes fire at me, but I’m able to turn my body into ice like a shield, so the heat doesn’t bother me, but the blast does move me a few feet backwards. I breathe out icepicks which the Enchantress dodges. I need to figure out a way to end her fast, or this could go on forever since neither of us wants to lose this fight.
Around us the battle has started back up again. I’m worried that there is a lot of damage. I can’t help but wonder how many are dead or wounded. I have to focus. I can’t let my thoughts distract me. I have to win this for my family, for the sake of the world.
…..
I run out to the battlefield. I had to come help. My heart is heavy with grief, and I have no idea how I’m going to tell Ivy that her sister is dead, let alone the fact that I killed her. It’s something I’ll worry about later right now the team needs me.
The battlefield is a blood bath. I look up and see the Enchantress and Emmy flying in the sky. One is blowing ice, the other is fire, it’s interesting to see. I spot Kyndle overhead blowing fire at a spirit who was coming at me from behind. I thank her and turn my attention back to my sister and grandmother battling it above everyone.
I spot my dad and run over to him. My dad quickly hugs me, and then casts a spell that makes a protective clear bubble around us so we can talk without being interrupted. My dad is bloody and dirty. I’m sure that I don’t look any better.
“Where have you been?” My dad asks, he’s winded.
“I was with Lynden, she stopped me while I was on my way to the battlefield. She tried to get me to join with the Enchantress. Emmy showed up, and then the Enchantress and her went off to battle. I see they found their way to the battlefield with everyone else,” I say looking up at the sky which is lit up with fire and ice.
“What about Lynden?”
“She’s gone. The Enchantress killed her, and then she came back as a zombie. She attacked me. I had no choice.”
My dad puts a hand on my shoulder.
“I’m sorry son, I know she was your friend.”
I nod my head. I have no desire to finish this conversation.
“How’s Emmy doing?”
“She’s wounded, but so is the Enchantress. They are equally matched. I don’t know if one can defeat the other. I’m starting to get nervous that they will just tire each other out, and no one will win. I don’t know how to help her. I certainly can’t change into a dragon.”
“Neither can I, but we have dark fire. We could both use dark fire on the Enchantress. It should weaken her enough so that Emmy can get the upper hand, and kill her,” I suggest hoping my idea doesn’t sound crazy.
“That’s not a bad idea. It could work. You take the right side, I’ll take the left side, we strike at the same time. I’ll tell you when.”
I nod my head. My dad and I run towards the Enchantress and Emmy. We face a problem though. The zombies and spirits won’t leave us alone long enough to strike at the Enchantress. We have to fight them off. I summon Kyndle with my mind, through our bond I can communicate with her.
Kyndle flies over to us. My legs are bleeding badly, one of the zombies got me with a machete. I clench my teeth to deal with the pain. I tell Kyndle I need her to keep the spirits and demons off of my dad and I. Kyndle obliges. Soon my dad and I are free, and we can now go back to our plan.
We get into position. I hear my dad’s voice in my head.
“On the count of three. One, two, THREE!”
With three we shoot dark fire at the Enchantress. She falls to the ground with a giant thud, it shakes the ground under us. Emmy is quickly on top of her. Emmy now has the advantage. The Enchantress is too weak to fight back.
…..
I’m on top of the Enchantress. My dad and brother have weakened her with dark fire. They’ve given me the advantage I needed. I’m grateful for their help because I wasn’t sure how much more I could take before I had to transform back into my human form.
With my razor-sharp claws, I rip the Enchantress’s heart out of her chest. She is still alive because her heart still beats in my hand. My dark magic allows me to pull her heart out and keep her alive. The Enchantress has to go back to human form. I transform back to my human form as well.
I stand over the Enchantress holding her heart out in front of me grasped in my right hand. She is in Tori’s body which makes this that much sweeter. I’m breathing heavily. I’m tired and I’m pretty sure I will sleep for days after this.
“Please don’t kill me,” the Enchantress begs.
I say nothing, I just stare at her.
“We can work this out. I’m your grandmother, you can’t kill me.”
“You’re not my family, I don’t care that blood binds us, you are nothing to me. You’re evil, and I will rid the world of you.”
I crush her heart as I watch it turn to dust, the Enchantress cries out as she breathes her last breath. Her army drops dead around us. The war is over. The world is safe. I hear cheering around me.
Suddenly I’m being hugged by my dad and brother. I see Carter in the distance. He smiles at me as he walks towards me. When Carter has reached me, he kisses me. Soon the whole team is around me along with my mom, Kenzie, and Jason.
I’m crying tears of happiness and sadness. It was harder than I thought to kill someone who was related to me even if she was evil and made my life hell for years. At the end of the day, I know I made the right choice, the Enchantress had to die. I look around at everyone. Everyone is happy, hugging each other, and taking care of the wounded.
The war is won, the world is safe, and soon this will be nothing more than a distant nightmare. There is still a lot that has to be done. The wounded need to be cared for, and the dead need to be mourned. There is still much damage to control to be done in the human world as well. Sometimes the aftermath of war is just hard to deal with as the actual war was, hopefully we can all find some peace in the near future.
