HURTING HER
HURTING HER
CHAPTER TWENTY-FOUR
CHRIS
I had no idea why I said that. Immediately the words were out of my mouth, I knew I made a mistake because I regretted it.
However, I had already said it, there was no way for me to take it back, right?
I could feel Diana's sharp angry gaze on me, and it made me feel uncomfortable.
It also made me feel a hint of guilt that I promptly shook off, what the heck did I have to feel guilty for.
She was the one who left me, she was the one refusing to talk to me even though I was trying to find out what Dylan had done to her to make her have such a huge reaction to him.
How come I was the bad person here? It didn't make sense at all!
"It's none of your business, sir. I am your assistant, and this is my private life," she stated coldly .
I felt an insane urge to hit someone. Her private life?! What fucking private life? Did Diana really think that she could use such excuses on me.
"You are right" I said with a sneer, "it's your private life, and I should not care about it. I just think that I have the right to get to the bottom of things and find out what's really going on when your private life is affecting me, you know," I said calmly .
There was a storm inside of me that was brewing, and I knew that I was about to say something that I would definitely regret.
But I had already started, and there was no way for me to stop myself.
I didn't even want to stop myself, I just knew that I wanted Diana to be as upset as I was.
I hated the way she seemed so calm about everything.
"What are you talking about?" She asked me.
A cruel smile danced on the corner of my lips, "you know, your former brother in law was telling me a lot of things. Including how you acted when you were married to his brother. He said that you cheated on his brother countless number of times, and he also said that you were a nutjob who tried to take away his brother's assets. It sounded crazy at first, but considering the fact that you abandoned everything to get married to him, you must not have wanted to be left with nothing when he died, right?" I asked her cruelly.
I knew that none of these things were true, none of the words that Dylan had said about Diana were true.
He had only said those things because he wanted me to make things difficult for Diana and even fire her.
I hated that I was doing what Dylan wanted, but I wanted to hurt Diana in some way .
She was silent for a few minutes, and I wondered if my words had any effects on her.
When I didn't hear anything from her, I turned to look at her face, and that was when I saw the tears rolling down my cheeks.
It felt as if something hit my heart when I saw her crying, and I felt like I was the most terrible human being alive.
What the heck had I done?! How could I make her cry so terribly?
I felt like the worst person alive, and I opened my mouth to apologize to her .
However, before I could get the words out, Diana was already speaking.
"Stop the car," she said coldly, as she sniffed back the tears.
"Let's go back to the hotel, we need to prepare for the banquet we've been invited to today, I hav no idea if you came with an evening gown so we might have to get one," I said, in a bid to change the topic .
I didn't want to deal with her hurt, even though I wanted to hurt her in the first place, seeing her like this, I just wanted to run away from what I had caused.
"I said stop the car," Diana repeated herself, with more anger in her voice this time.
Taking a peek at her face, I sighed. "Look, Diana, the things Dylan said...."
"Are you crazy?!" I was still talking when she grabbed the steering wheel of the car..
I was forced to step on the break immediately so we wouldn't get into an accident and Diana's head was flung against the headboard.
"Do you want to get yourself killed?!" I screamed in her face .
Diana glared at her, and I shuddered when I saw how much hate she was looking at me with.
What the heck was wrong with me, seriously? I could have said anything else, but I just had to pick such a way to antagonize her.
"Diana you...."
She didn't give me a chance to talk, she just pulled open the car door and tried to get out.
"Diana where do you think you are going? Don't forget that you came here as my assistant!" I said, in a last effort to stop her from leaving.
Diana shook me off, and that was when I knew that I had taken things too far this time.
"Then you can go ahead and fire me, I don't want this fucking job anyway. Who know, I might just take up Diego's offer," she smirked at me as she said this.
Without giving me a chance to respond to this, Diana started to walk away from the car .
I wanted to get down and chase her, but it was a busy street, and she seemed to know where she was going.
Sighing, I got closed the car door and decided to follow her slowly
Diana probably did not want to talk to me right now, and she had seemed pretty shaken up because of Dylan.
Perhaps, this could give her time to calm down.
She walked down the busy street without much energy in her bones, and for the first time, I really started to wonder what Diana lived like while she was here.
