MORE THAN AN ASSISTANT?

MORE THAN AN ASSISTANT?
CHAPTER TWENTY-TWO

DIANA

Raising my head, I walked out of the bathroom. I was here as Chris' assistant, and not as the wife of James.

That was an identity I had gotten rid of a long time ago, and I had to leave it in the past already.

Taking a deep breath, I pushed the door of the private room open and I walked in.

"I'm sorry for running out like that, I felt sick and I had to use the bathroom..." All of the words died in my throat once I raised my head and saw who else was in the room.

It was none other than Diego, with a shocked look on his face.

I closed my eyes and cursed. What the heck was this?! It was bad enough that I had to deal with Dylan, why the heck was Diego here too?

What kind of fate did we have that we kept meeting each other in these settings?

"Chris, you really have an interesting assistant, she comes and goes as she pleases, and she even stops and stares in the middle of her sentences like she has lost her mind. What the heck is wrong with her?" Dylan's mocking words sounded just then and they reminded me of where I was.

Clearing my throat, I walked over to Chris and stood by his side. He was my boss, and the reason I was here anyway.

I could feel two pairs of eyes following me as I walked over to Chris, but I tried my best to ignore it.

If I thought about it, I might just suffer a break down once again.

"Like i was saying, the land will definitely be put to better use if you sell it to us, Mr. Rodd. We plan to build a massive mall that's accessible to the entire city. Since it's in a prime location, the middle of the city, it would definitely generate a lot of income. If you are interested, it would be better if we could talk about this more in private," Chris said, a straight look on his face.

There was no other expression on his face other than the urge to buy the land. He really was a seasoned businessman, and he could tone out everything when he wanted something.

"We are planning to build a series of apartments that will be accessible for most people who cannot afford proper housing in the city. It's going to be cheap and targeted at the middle income families, and the land will definitely be put to better use than a mall, what do you think, Mr. Rodd?" Diego pitched his idea.

He really wasn't different from Chris when he was talking about his use for the land.

I guess, this was what it meant to be a business man, and why both of them were doing so well.

"Well, I have listened to what both of you have said, and I still can't make a discussion yet. You both have good uses for that land, however, I need to think about this some more. Since it seems you guys will be spending a bit more time here, how about you come to a banquet that I am holding later tonight?" Dylan invited both men.

The invitation was not extended to me, but I knew that as Chris assistant , I would have to be here.

"I think it would be better to make a decision as soon as possible so we can get ahead with our day, Mr. Rodd. As you know, we are all very busy men, and we have to get back to our companies as soon as possible," Diego said calmly.

I had a feeling that neither Diego nor Chris liked Dylan.

Although neither of them said anything, their body language told me that they did not want to be here at all.

"Come on, it's not just about selling the land for the highest price, you know. I also want to sell the land to someone that I really connect to. It's one of the best properties that we have over in your city, and if my brother was alive, he would never have sold that land. It means a lot to me," Dylan said.

He flashed me a grin as he talked about James. Although my heart skipped a beat and I felt my hands shaking, I tried my best not to let it affect me.

I wasn't going to let him affect me and force me to make a fool of myself once again.

"It seems we don't have a choice but to attend, right?" Chris asked, a forced smile on his face.

Dylan leaned back on his chair as he tapped his hand on the table over and over again.

"Let's just say....I really don't have to sell the land to either one of you," he said.

"There are other people who really want this land, and you know, they might just be more eager than both of you. We will see who shows the most enthusiasm," Dylan's words were clearly a throat, and although both men were upset, it seemed that there wasn't much that either one of them could do about it.

They both must relay want this land.

"We will definitely be there," saying this, Chris stood up and he grabbed my hand, pulling me out of the room with him.

"Hey, do you think she is just his assistant?" I heard Dylan whisper not so quietly to Diego as Chris pulled me out.

Chris stopped for a second, it was just one for second, but I feared that he was going to do something.

However, he didn't do anything and he just continued to pull me out with him.

Dylan was still the same bastard that he was in the past!

......

"Diana!" I heard Diego calling out to me as Chris pulled me to the car .

I stopped, wanting to respond to Diego's call, however, Chris tugged on my hand.

"Let's go!" He snapped at me.
