Chapter 41: Get Out

Carter I stared at her sleeping form, her exhausted body finally resting after all this time. I wished that I could help her, seeing her like this was horrible. This wasn't the Elinn I knew and I had no clue what was going on with her. I just wanted her to go back to being that shy, quiet, caring girl she had been before. "It isn't her fault you know, all of this none of it is her fault." I didn't look away from Elinn as her mother entered the room. I wanted nothing more than to tear her to shreds for what she had caused my mate to do. She wasn't ready for something like that and this woman had thrown it at her anyways. "You can be mad at me if you wish Carter, but I did what was best for all of us. It was better that she explode now, when her power is untrained and unsure when it doesn't really have the potential to hurt anyone. If she were to do it after she got some training in her, she could have accidentally killed someone and we both know what that would have done to her." I had no way of knowing if what she was saying was indeed true. I didn't know what that power flowing out of her had been, but I did know that it wasn't something I ever wanted to see again. "But it isn't her fault, with all the parts of her finally able to freely move her body is on the frits. Her hormones will be going wild, her emotions held together by a thread, and her wolf and Demetre are trying to figure out how they fit with her. It is overwhelming and she doesn't have complete control of herself right now, she might not for a few weeks. I would start to prepare yourself for what is to come." I so badly wanted to punch her teeth in. Elinn's mother treated me as if I was a child who wasn't properly taking care of his pet, but Elinn was a living breathing human being. "Look I'm sure you mean well and all but I really can't have you here anymore. Elinn knows who you are now, that you exist, if she wants anything else from you she can find you later. For now, I need you out of the house of my pack lands and away from my mate." Finally, I looked away from my slumbering mate and into the eyes of the cold Goddess before me. "I'm not leaving you have no right to demand that I leave my daughter. I have waited twenty-two years to meet her and I will not wait any longer to be able to talk with and hold her." She looked at me as if I was some weak Alpha who would bow to her will and beg her forgiveness for challenging her. That wasn't who I was, and I wasn't going to let her stay. "You will do Elinn no good here, so you will leave so that she can recover. I have the authority as the Alpha of this territory to demand that you leave it. Goddess of Death or no you still answer to the Goddess of the Moon and she has granted me that right. So when I tell you that you are to be off of my territory by sunrise I mean it, and you will do as I tell you or you will find out exactly why I am the Alpha of this pack." She seemed to grow stiller and stiller as I kept talking as if she realized that I wasn't wrong. "She is my daughter! Why would I possibly be detrimental to her recovery?" She hissed at me and my resolve to stay calm and deal with her civilly cracked. "Really, your asking why that could possibly be a bad thing? Why someone might resent the woman who abandoned their daughter when they felt like it was too hard, regardless of what dangers were around them? That they might be happy to meet someone they never knew existed and didn't need because they already have parents. Someone who doesn't seem to truly care about the soul behind the body and power. Sure you gave birth to her, but I know for a fact that she will never call you her Mom. All you've done since you got here is cause trouble and try to make everyone else feel like they are inferior and I will not let you do that to her! she has had enough of that in the past or did you not know that she was kidnapped and tortured by someone you were supposed to protect her from. She was chained and beaten daily, while you sat on your throne not giving a rats ass about what was happening to your daughter. While you were busy ruling your kingdom, she was being whipped and branded as someone else's possession, like a piece of cattle. So forgive me if I decide that I want her to be away from someone who reminds me very much of the person who did all of that to her. Someone without a soul who sees her as an object to own and calls theirs and nothing more." I spat the words with so much venom I was surprised that she wasn't melting when I was done. The Goddess looked away from me as if she could no longer bear to hold my gaze. With a slight incline of her head, she headed towards the door, and I knew that she would be leaving. "Will you please tell her that is she ever needs me I will just be waiting for her to call. Tell her that all she needs to do is ask for the assistance of the Goddess Nephael and I will be there as fast as I can. I want her to at least know that much, to know my name." She paused in the doorway as if she wanted to glance back but kept herself from doing so. "Yes, now get off of my pack lands." Slowly she solemnly nodded her head and retreated into the hallway once again pausing. "Am I to bring my mate with me, or is he allowed to stay?" The question was filled with so many different meanings and emotions I wanted to pretend like she hadn't asked. But I could give her this, give my mate at least this. "She already knows who he is, loves him even if she wasn't aware of what she truly was to him. He may stay for now, but it he does or says anything to harm her in any way he will be back with you wherever you rule." This time when she started walking away she did not stop. I looked back down at my sleeping angel and knew I would do anything to protect her. She was mine, and I was hers and I wouldn't have it any other way. Not now, not ever, I wouldn't trade her for the world, I could only wish that we had been able to start our story in a different way. But this was how it was, the reality of what I was given, and I wouldn't change her, not really. I just wanted her to be able to feel safe, like a whole person again. I wanted her to know that I loved her, and I wouldn't leave her side until I was sure that she understood that
